Strongest Nova: Path of Vengeance
Chapter 121: Questions
Raven Darkwing was a name as fearsome as the man who coined the term Nova. She was a figure that got infamous after she massacred an entire building full of people all on her own when she was only a teen.
Many government bodies tried to find her, but they were unable. She surfaced a decade later with a clan of her own, that she and her little brother had opened up.
The younger brother was the person who had come up with the disgusting ideas to improve Novas, throwing the entire world into chaos.
Then, they disappeared forever, making others think they were dead.
’To think they were here, making such an elaborate farm where they lived for the last 150 years,’ Sheila thought. She trembled at the thought of having fought her and made it out alive of there.
It was a miracle she wasn’t dead already. She would have to thank her parents later for making her born with such an impressive power.
Still, it did not stop her from being scared of the black-haired girl. She wondered what it meant.
How strong had the Nova gotten in that period of time? Had she grown stronger than Nathan? If she had, how much stronger was she going to get after everyone in the town died?
"Oh, so you know our names?" the mayor looked at Sheila with a weird look on his face. "That’s surprising, given that we have been gone for a century and a half. Surely they don’t teach you about us in history classes."
"That must mean you belong to some greater organization than I could have expected," the mayor said. However, seeing that Sheila didn’t want to answer, he didn’t press any further.
It didn’t really matter where she was from anymore after all.
"My body," the old man’s voice came from the ground where Yasu in the mayor’s previous body fell into a fetal position. "Give me back my body."
Freddy stood up still with the gun pointed at him. He saw what it had done to the walls, so he remained as still as he could. Even if he wanted to do something, he couldn’t.
Not only had he been mentally changed to not harm the mayor, but he was also tied by the old man’s ropes that completely nullified his power at the moment.
He stood there, thinking about the family that he had left behind. If the monsters were coming, then he needed to go help.
But... he was stuck here instead, forced by the new mayor to stand where he was.
He looked toward the old man on the floor, wondering if that was going to be his fate as well.
Yasu crawled, grabbing the mayor by his leg with his few remaining fingers. The mayor tried to shake him off, but Yasu would continue grabbing him even if he lost it.
"Stop it!" he told the man, but Yasu didn’t listen and continued to come at the mayor, trying to get his body back.
"And here I thought I would let you live for a bit longer," the mayor said and suddenly pointed his gun at the old man.
Then, he pulled the trigger.
A red light flashed in everyone’s eyes as the plasma bullet went through Yasu’s head, who dropped dead immediately.
Stanley watched with wide eyes as he could not believe that he had just witnessed that. Had Yasu been killed just like that? Now that he had changed his body, he no longer needed him.
Was his brother meant to suffer from the same fate had he not been attacked earlier today?
"There goes my last and final candidate," the mayor said as he pointed the gun back at Freddy while looking at Stanley.
"You killed one of them too, didn’t you?" the mayor asked. "You killed George."
Stanley said nothing but simply stared at the mayor.
"You know, Bradley truly was the best vessel for me. He was the exact shape and build as my original body, and would have been compatible with my soul. Alas, I couldn’t wait long enough for him to heal before taking his body," he said as he shook his head.
"I no longer had any use for your brother. If not for that, your brother might have still been alive today," the mayor said with a laugh.
Stanley got even angrier. He wanted to attack him but now was not the time. He needed the words to continue flowing.
"You don’t care for people in the town, do you?" he asked. "You always looked at this place as nothing more than a place to help your sister."
"Of course," the mayor said. "That’s what this is in the first place."
"Then why the separation?" Stanley asked. "Why did you force the Dulls to be mistreated?"
"You’re asking that now?" the mayor asked. "Ah right. Your mother was a Dull, wasn’t she?"
The mayor waited for Stanley to say something, but seeing as he wasn’t talking, he continued.
"The answer is simple, really. Dead Dulls can’t help a Nova grow. They are the only things that are of no use to us, so we force them to stay far away from us."
Stanley nearly dropped his sword in shock. "You... you let the discrimination between Dulls and the rest foster so much... all because they weren’t food in your farm."
"Haha, that’s a good metaphor," the mayor said. He was about to look around when Stanley talked again.
"6 months ago when the Crawlers were dragged in, why did you save me? Why did you save my life if you hated Dulls so much?" Stanley asked.
"Save your life? Did I?" the mayor asked. "I don’t remember. I don’t really save anyone. I just let them be after a quick treatment. If they manage to survive, it’s good. If they die, it’s still good with me."
Stanley paused. So had he not been saved by the mayor? Was it all just Varinox and the mayor had taken the credit for it?
He could worry about it afterward. Right now, wanted to watch the man die.
"Good job," Sheila said from the side with both her hands-free and holding the gun that was thrown away. She pointed it at the mayor, ready to shoot now that she could use her hands again.
