Chapter 122: Shoot

Sheila had managed to slip free of her rope while the mayor was distracted by Stanley’s constant questioning.

She reached for the gun and pointed it at the mayor, ready to shoot. "Good job," she said to Stanley, catching the mayor’s attention.

The mayor turned around with a slightly confused look on his face. He kept his gun pointed at Freddy while he spoke up.

"You broke free too?" he asked Sheila. "How? He was angry and was too emotionally invested in killing me. What about you?"

"What do you think, bitch?" Sheila asked, her gun pointed at the man.

The mayor showed no reaction to the taunt and just looked at her carefully. "Ah, you broke your thumb to loosen the ropes, I see," he said, looking at the bright red base of Sheila’s left thumb.

Her hands shook imperceptibly as she tried to control the gun. But the pain was too intense for her. She was already tearing up despite the situation she was in.

"You guys can’t stop him, so for now just keep an eye on him," the mayor ordered the two men behind him while he looked at Sheila. "You didn’t attack me immediately and even caught my attention. There must be a reason why you didn’t shoot me right away, isn’t there?"

She frowned that he saw right through her.

"Shoot him," Stanley said from far away. "Just kill him."

He had to stay where he was in fear of the mayor shooting Freddy, but Sheila could do it instantly. Why was she hesitating?

"Tell me, what is stopping you from killing me? Surely you aren’t thinking of capturing me instead, are you?" the mayor asked. He watched as Sheila’s eyes widened and narrowed for a second, but that was enough for him to catch it.

"Oh... my... god. You really think you can capture me, don’t you?" the mayor asked while laughter began leaking from his voice. "You... haha, you really do want to capture me."

"Yes, now stop talking," Sheila said pointing her gun at the Mayor. She still wasn’t sure how he was using Yasu’s powers, which should have been with the old man now that he was dead.

One’s power came from one’s soul, so she had a hard time understanding how the mayor was using Yasu’s power. Did he know more about the soul than she did?

"Sheila! What are you doing? Kill him!" Stanley shouted. He couldn’t understand why she would stop at all.

"No, no, she won’t kill me now that she knows who I am," the mayor said. "You must be some sort of police, looking to get promoted from capturing me, aren’t you?"

Sheila blinked her tears of pain away and held the gun tighter. The mayor was wrong, but he wasn’t that far off the truth either.

"We need him to override the door," she told a truth that was equally a lie. "If we don’t open the door, we won’t be able to leave."

"Huh?" Stanley finally remembered about the door. "Oh... right."

"The door?" the mayor was confused for a moment before his eyes narrowed. "How do you know about the cave?"

"You will do as I say and override the doors," Sheila ordered the man.

"And do what exactly?" the mayor asked. "Kill me?"

"If you don’t open that door, then I’m gonna die anyway," Sheila said. "Might as well take you along with me."

"Haha, I know you don’t— Stop!" the mayor shouted immediately. In the next moment, his right leg flashed and moved out of the way as a red bullet zipped past it, landing on the ground next to him.

The mayor looked shocked for a moment. She was really trying to kill him. "You... you don’t care that I will kill him, do you?" he asked.

"Why should I?" she asked. "He means nothing to me."

The mayor frowned as he finally realized that he wasn’t as safe as he thought he was. Especially since he had just now realized that the remaining soul energy that was on Yasu’s body was running out as well. He could only use his powers a few more times only.

Without Yasu’s soul there to produce more, he was stuck with just a normal body. Given that he also didn’t have his own soul energy, he couldn’t swap bodies just yet either and was stuck with this body.

He was in danger.

Stanley was starting to feel something once again. As for what that something was, he couldn’t explain it just yet. It was definitely a feeling he had felt before though, just hours earlier when he fought the Crawlers.

The feeling was getting more and more intense by the second.

Then, he saw something. A vision from the slight future. The mayor pulled the trigger, shooting Freddy in the face, killing him instantly.

"No!" he shouted. "He’s going to—"

He didn’t have the time to speak. He threw the sword in his hand and managed to hit the mayor’s arm at the last moment.

The gun fired off and hit Freddy, but it was only his ear that was hit.

"Argh!" Freddy shouted in pain and collapsed. At the same time, the mayor saw Sheila pull the trigger.

"Stop!" he shouted, but it was already too late. The plasma bullet hit the gun in his hand, tossing it aside. Since the gun was made to handle plasma, it wasn’t destroyed, just sent flying.

At the same time, the mayor left everything and jumped backward going back into the room. Stanley finally got the opportunity and ran up front, but Gallan quickly grabbed the gun that came flying in his direction.

He pointed it in Stanley’s direction.

Stanley saw the bullet come flying in his direction and hit him in the torso. So, he moved to the side as the bullet flew past him.

The bullets continued flying at Stanley as he weaved through them all, as he saw each and every bullet flying at him. His mind was somehow capable of telling exactly when the event in his vision was going to take place.

He changed his direction in the last second and arrived next to Gallan giving him a punch to the face he so very deserved.
