Strongest Nova: Path of Vengeance
Chapter 146: Charges
Stanley saw the massive buildings which seemed to be entirely made up of glass for the most part. He saw moving pictures on the glasses, each of which glowed with various colors, surprising him a bit.
There were even sounds coming from that picture.
"Wow," he couldn’t help but look around in awe. The rain died down a bit around the time they reached another building that they entered.
Stanley looked around and saw people wearing similar clothes as the ones that had captured him. They walked out of the cart, the man holding the sword.
The door opened and the girl said something that he couldn’t understand. She pulled him out and made him walk.
Stanley looked around, confused he walked underneath the bright light. They passed through a door and a bunch of light and steam passed through them as they walked to the other side.
Stanley was wearing nothing on his upper body, and his pants were tattered and wet with water and mud, so everyone looked at him as they passed.
Stanley looked at everyone as well. They all looked so weird.
There were people with metal objects on their faces or ears, eyes, or head. They had ones they wore on their bodies, and some even wore shoes of the same kind.
And for some reason, everything glowed.
’Just what kind of world is this?’
Soon, he was taken to some bright room and placed on a chair, surrounding which a shield appeared. The man and woman went to the other side and looked at the glowing glasses.
They asked something, which Stanley didn’t understand. They asked once more, of which Stanley understood ’speak’.
"You guys want me to speak?" he asked. "I can speak, but I don’t know if you can understand me or not. I can’t understand you, that’s for sure."
The two people spoke for a while, seemingly with different words each time as none of what they spoke sounded the same. In the end, it seemed they gave up.
The man looked at something and his eyes suddenly turned serious. He showed it to the girl and she too turned serious.
They looked at each other with serious looks in their eyes, making Stanley wonder what was happening. Suddenly, he saw the shield turn red all around him, an immediate vision of the future.
Stanley quickly stood up and looked all around him in panic. "What’s happening?" he asked. "Hey! What’s happening?"
Just as his vision foretold, the shield turned red and a loud siren played all around him. At the same time, he felt something prick into his arm. He looked down and saw that it was from the metal that had tied his hands. He tried to pull it away in a panic, but the shield around the metal instead just burned him.
"What are you doing?" he shouted. "I’m not a criminal. I didn’t do anything."
Even as he said that he felt a wave of exhaustion hit him. He found himself growing dizzy as his legs buckled.
"Warning! Host has been poisoned. Please look for medical assistance." The somewhat familiar voice of Varinox, what Sheila claimed was a cluster of tiny machines inside of his body, spoke.
However, Stanley could barely focus enough by the time he heard that. Before he knew it, he had fainted.
* * * * *
A young man sat in front of a monitor screen, looking at what was on it.
On it was two sets of files, each describing the two people the police had just brought back from outside of the city. He leaned forward, his mind confused as neither of the two pieces of information made any sense to him.
The door to the room opened and an older man with a thick beard walked in.
"Officer, why did you call me here?" the man asked as he arrived next to the young man. He was the captain of this city’s police force and was the highest person of authority in the force.
"Sir, I need you to look at these two files," he said and made a small gesture with his hands. Suddenly, the files on the screen appeared in the air as holograms.
The newly arrived officer looked at the information. "What’s this?" he asked.
"Officer Jamie and Catty brought back two people that were found outside the city. The young man was carrying an injured girl, who is this one? The girl was brought to the hospital and is said to be out of danger, but they are still treating her."
"As for the teenager... he’s a weird one," the young man said.
"Weird how?" the older man asked. "Load up his file properly so I can see."
"That’s it, sir," the man said. "There is zero information on him. It’s as if... he doesn’t exist."
"What? That’s not possible," the man said. "Did you check for any chips or implants?’
"I did, and I found a shot of Varinox, but it states that it was placed into the young man only 6 months ago. Before that, he had nothing," the young police said.
"Show me the young man," the captain said.
The young man complied and pulled up a live feed of Stanley sleeping on a white bed in a small, white room. There was nothing else around him but a small blue blanket over him as he slept.
"You have the feed from his capture?" the captain asked.
The young man pulled up that feed as well, showing the ragged Stanley, stopping in front of the car in nothing but raggedy pants.
The footage continued with what had happened before from Stanley asking them to help the girl to the police officers capturing him.
"Why can’t I understand what he’s saying?" the captain asked with a frown on his face. "Is the language model not working?"
"It is, but it looks like he’s speaking a language that isn’t in our database," the young man said. "I’ve sent a snippet of it to the headquarters, and we should soon be getting the actual language he’s speaking."
"Although, if you ask me... it sounds like Old Eylish," the young man said.
"We’ll see. He’s in custody now?" the captain asked. "What are his charges?"
"Attempted manslaughter, and even possible manslaughter."
