Chapter 180: Back to Headquarters

After a bit of paperwork, that Stanley hadn’t realized would take him so long to finish, the mission was finally over.

The director of the Freenox branch acknowledged that the job was done and let them be. They rested for a day and returned back to Starhall.

"Oh yeah, I looked up on Silent Nexus," Reena said on the way back. "Absolutely nothing on it."

"Nothing?" Gray was surprised to hear that. "How does David speak of Silent Nexus when nothing of that sort exists?"

"I mean... somebody removed the information, right?" Reena asked. "That’s the only explanation I can think of."

"Yeah, they most likely did," Gray said. "And someone else most likely removed the information about David as well since we have no idea where he was before the accident at Triglow City. It is evident that he went somewhere, but no one knows where."

"Didn’t Caleb check for something about United Voras?" Reena asked.

"He might have gone there, but as I said, there is no information at all," Gray said. "Urgh, I’m going to sleep. We’ll find out one way or the other."

The group returned to headquarters a few hours later, and Gray told Stanley to go get the sword licensed.

Stanley nodded and left. Before all, he had to go to do a check on the resources he had used.

Of the varous things he was given, Stanley had ended up using up 2 Plasma magazines, 1 plasma granade, and 1 Flash Grenade. Everything else he used could be either reused after a few maintenance check up.

That was a surprisingly low number of resources used for a mission that involved fighting people with guns.

After he gave back everything, Stanley went to the engineering department to find the ones that made his sword. Entering the department, he saw a bunch of regular folks in blue clothing that he had seen a few times around the place.

The people in the Starhall were color coded to let everyone know where they worked.

People that wore black uniform were field workers. They were either Scouters or Fighters, and without knowing them, it was impossible to say who was what.

Yellow uniform wearers were Medical staff that were there primarily to look after the people. Amy was one of them, and aside from her, Stanley wasn’t acquainted to anyone else at all.

Red uniform wearers were regular staff that worked around at any location that didn’t require an expertise. It could be sales or kitchen or even guards that looked checked people.

Finally, the Blue wearers were Engineers and Weapon experts who were there to improve the various techs and weapons that were used by everyone.

He walked in, unsure who he was supposed to meet here exactly. He looked around, unsure what to do when a person walked up to him.

"Hello," the man that was barely a year older than him spoke up. "Can I help you, sir?"

Stanley wasn’t used to being called Sir just yet, but he had been called that enough times that he didn’t cringe at the words.

"I’m trying to find people that made this sword. Can you help me?" Stanley asked, bringing out the sword.

The young man saw the sword and was surprised to see Stanley holding it so casually. He gulped a bit and pointed in a direction.

Stanley looked toward a group of men and women and went toward them.

Seeing him walk up to them, a few of the members from the group stood up. When they saw the sword, they were awed as well.

"Hello, did you make this sword?" Stanley asked the group.

The people quickly nodded. "We did, sir," one of the men answered. "Is there something wrong with it?"

"No, nothing is wrong with it," Stanley said. "Well... it could be sharper, but other than that, it is fantastic."

"Ah, our apologies. Sir Gray took it from us before we could ask for feedback to make some changes as you would like it. Do you want us to make it sharper?" the man asked.

"Yes, if it isn’t too much to ask for," Stanley said.

"No need to be polite sir," the man said. "It is our job after all."

"And... I think this needs a license too. Brother Gray forgot about it when he took it from your guys," Stanley said.

"He didn’t—"

"Yes, he forgot," a woman stood up quickly and interrupted the man.

Stanley wanted to chuckle when he realized that most of them were afraid of Gray. Maybe rightly so, but he had been beaten up enough that he didn’t fear him anymore. At least, he didn’t fear getting beaten up.

"We’ll handle it for you, sir. Anything more?" the woman asked.

"Uh... Stanley thought for a moment. "Actually there is something I was hoping you could help me with. Although, it might be a bit difficult," he said.

"Please, it is our job to do anything you ask for. If it is impossible, we’ll let you know," the woman said. "Please, just tell us what you want from us."

"If so then... here’s what I want."

Gray arrived by the administration area to find Caleb who was lost in his own world, looking for something on the screen in front of him. 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖

Gray had to wave his hands in front of him to let him know that he was there.

"Ah! Brother Gray. You’re back," he exclaimed when he saw him.

"Yeah, I’m back," Gray said. "Are you free?"

"Sure," Caleb said, closing what he was doing. "I already finished my work for the day."

Gray looked at the clock on the screen. "But its only 11 am," he said.

Caleb grinned. "I already finished by work for the next 14 days. I’m just hanging around right now," he said.

Gray shook his head and laughed a litlte. Then, he pulled out something from from his jacket. "Can you see what you can find through here. If possible search for the locations that this chip has been to."

"Okay," Caleb said, taking the chip. He looked at it a bit and frowned when he saw how bloody it was. "Did you rip it out of someone’s neck or what?"

"Close enough," Gray said. "Let me know when you find something."

"Sure will, brother," Caleb said and went back to what he was doing.

Gray left the room, and went up to the Director’s room. He went in, sitting in the sofa, waiting for the director to look back up.

The director was lost in his own work for a while and ignored Gray for a while before he finally spoke up.

"So, how did the kid do?" he asked.

"If you’re just asking about the kid, amazing," Gray said. "He cleared up the arms dealers’ place in no time at all. Even their shields and guns did nothing to him."

"What about their powers? Were those easy to handle?" the director asked.

"He barely gave them time to even use it," Gray said. "He makes me feel so proud, you know. Like I raised that young man."

The director smirked a bit. "And? Any problems?" he asked. "I heard you captured him outside of his own lair."

"Yeah, a small problem occurred," Gray said.

"Hmm? I thought you said it was amazing," the director said.

"No, the kid did amazing. But I had to help him capture David in the end," Gray said.

"Then he didn’t do that amazingly," the director said.

"It wasn’t his fault," Gray said. "Reena simply didn’t tell him all the right information."

The director finally showed a surprised look. "Reena gave the wrong information?" he asked. "That doesn’t seem likely."

"Well, it happened," Gray said. "And that’s why the kid did amazingly, even though not everything went to plan."

"Hmm, I guess that’s how it is if you are telling the truth," the director said. "But... why did Reena fail? It can’t be that she didn’t try."

"No, she did all the right things," Gray said. "Except that she didn’t know about the conversation taht the two of us have had for the past month."

"What—" the director paused. "No way! Did his powers change too?"

"Yes," Gray said. "And this time they didn’t just get stronger, but evolved as well. Instead of making simple dirt monsters, he could now make a perfect copy of himself that could talk and communicate with him."

"Bastard even made it so perfect that my spatial sense couldn’t tell it wasn’t a dirt clone until Stanley ripped the gun from his hands and his fingers broken off," Gray said. "Something bad is going on, old man. I’ll tell you that."

The director was about to say something when Gray put his hands up to make him stop. "Yeah, Caleb. What’s up?" he asked.

"I cracked the chip. What should I do with the information?" he asked. "Should I send it now."

"Send it to the director. I’m with him," Gray said and ended the call. The director got a notification and he quickly opened it up to see a bunch of texts and images.

One image in particular was marked as important, which he opened up. When he did, both Gray and the director looked at the pic in the air.

The picture they were looking at was the locations that David had been to in just the last month. However, when they saw the number of locations he had visited in just a month, they couldn’t help but frown.

There was a few small clumps around Barson where the man had been for the past 2 weeks. But before that, in the first 2 weeks, he had visited United Voras as they had expected.

And in those 2 weeks, he had been to every single big city in United Voras.
