Surviving the Apocalypse While Being Tempted by an Elf and a Dark Elf
Chapter 290: Realization (4)
Now this news came at a very time. Luke couldn’t just stop his current mission just because someone unexpected showed up. That might make things change a lot on Earth. Still, he had to finish what he had started. That being said, that timing was just way too unexpected... that was pretty suspicious as well. Of all moments that person could have decided to show up... was it a trap prepared for Frank? Even if it wasn’t Frank had a reason to confront them.
"When did this person showed up?" Luke asked.
"Yesterday, I guess," Danielle replied.
"Well, just return to Earth and tell my father that I am busy here," Luke said. "I will return as soon as possible, but only after I have some leeway or I am done with things here."
"Uncle also said that things are getting heated there... because Frank is looking for the cloaked person," Danielle added.
"I figured as much," Luke said. "Still, you can tell him to do whatever is necessary to guarantee their safety and of the fortress."
Truth to be told, Luke wanted to say to get rid of the cloaked figure. Someone who just showed up and is already causing problems isn’t worth the hassle to have in his group, but he couldn’t pass such a message using a kid. Nevertheless, Danielle returned, and Luke resumed his task of moving around and visiting the camps before they were hit by the horde.
"Are you sure about this, Luke?" Rina asked. "I know that you want to help Shalia, but you need to be with your parents in times like these."
"It is fine. They aren’t made of glass," Luke said. "Besides, they aren’t alone. It is for times like these that I helped so many people to level up when I made that camp."
"As much as I find it weird to say this, I am with Rina this time," Shalia said. "There is no point in helping my world, and if you lose yours, Luke."
"I understand what you mean, but believe me, this is for the best," Luke said. "Now, where is the nearest camps, Seirion?"
Luke didn’t want to tell anyone that operating the fortress was rather easy, even more so to those that had large mana like the dark elves. As of now, he didn’t have anyone that he fully trusted to guard the red crystal... perhaps Nambra could do that, but even though she couldn’t defy his orders, Luke didn’t want to leave her behind with so much power in his hands.
In any case, Seirion had a map of the continent, and he pointed the direction of the next few camps. The next three were relatively close by, but the fourth one was like two hours away. So, he will have time to go back while the fortress flies to the fourth location. As usual, not everyone decided to join them, but on the third camp, some of the dark elves even decided to fight their fellow people that had joined hands with someone that was almost the same as the other overlords. Seirion tried to go easy on them, but things eventually got out of hand, and people began to die... it was a pity. Still, just like humans, dark elves can be pretty stupid at times. Seirion’s side easily won the battle, and moreover, they made the overlord’s skills level.
The skill Overlord’s Blessing of Power has leveled.
You obtained 05 status points.
The skill Overlord’s Blessing of Wisdom has leveled.
You obtained 05 status points.
"So, they have to fight to make the skills level up, huh," Luke nodded to himself. "In any case, this was pretty fast since many of them fought at the same time."
The skills will level up even faster once they begin to fight the horde. Those who become Luke’s followers will probably notice the difference in power between them, and they take the oath. Still, instead of that, Luke wondered if he should buy other overlords’ skills or upgrade crystals. It was hard to say how fast those would level up if so many dark elves fight at the same time, after all. Still, Luke had another problem to deal with now. After making the fortress fly to the next camp, Luke returned to Earth, only to find a very noisy bunch in front of his parent’s home.
"What is going on here?" Luke asked.
"Ah, you are back, Luke," Julia said with a stiff smile on her face. "As you can see, the people are arguing a little bit."
By little bit, Julia was referring to the commotion that was so noisy that he could barely hear his mother talking. Mark was on her side, and the cloaked figure was behind them. As for his friends, they were trying to calm down the group in front of them.
"Luke... I won’t condemn you for what you choose to do. You wanted to help more people, and considering the situation in that world, it was probably the right thing to do," Mark said. "Still, as you can see, that made things escalate here a bit too much."
"Well, I didn’t expect this, but you could have solved this, couldn’t you?" Luke asked.
"I don’t have my previous position. I am in no place to act like a figure that deserves a lot of respect," Mark said. "I am just another survivor here."
"I think you are being awfully humble here," Luke said. "I left you and mom in charge, didn’t I?"
"That is exactly the problem. I only half of the authority here," Mark said.
"What do you mean by that, dear?" Julia asked with a cold smile. "Do you think that you are in the army and that you can put everyone in line with a single word?"
"I am not in the army, but do you think you can solve this while talking normally?" Mark asked.
Julia couldn’t answer... Things had escalated too much. Diplomacy was useless.
