Chapter 364: Tests (1)

Luke tried to feel that mana, and he frowned when he failed. He felt that he would get another clue by doing so. Still, it was the first time he saw mana acting like that after defeating a foe, and it wasn’t the first time he killed a monster with so much mana.

Aside from the skills level-ups and its notifications, Luke didn’t see anything else, so that thing wasn’t an overlord. In any case, all the sand disappeared, and he found a blue crystal a few meters away from where he landed. He probably had to touch that to reach the next floor, but that didn’t make sense. He wasn’t the first one to come there, so others were supposed to have killed that monster and used the same method to proceed.

"Something feels off, but I can stop here and think about it..." Luke thought.

While Luke approached the crystal, he looked around and realized that the floor resembled the first room, but there was still a sky where the ceiling was supposed to be. Clouds were moving, so it didn’t seem like a painting or an illusion. Luke grabbed his katana and then attacked the ground... he didn’t even leave a dent on it. He was worried that his fight might have alerted others on the next floors, but his attack’s impact was completely dispersed. That place wasn’t just made of random earth magic.

All the parasites in the monster’s body had also disappeared. Still, Luke didn’t get experience from making them disappear, so he couldn’t help but sigh before he touched the blue crystal. In the next moment, Luke saw himself standing in the middle of a road. It was a green road made of plants, so it was pretty weird. What was even weirder was the fact that the road was quite large and extended toward the horizon, but on the sides, Luke saw a sea of an odd boiling, purple liquid. It smelled like the worst combination of dejects of the cosmos. Just by getting close, Luke felt his eyes turning. At the same time, he felt better just by taking a single step backward.

The sky was of the same color as the sea... it was probably because of the smell of pollution. In any case, it seemed that he had been teleported to another weird dimension on that tower. Luke was already used to things that he couldn’t understand happening left and right, so he decided to just move on that path after sighing once.

Luke began to run with all his might while keeping his guard up. There weren’t many places to hide in such a place. Still, he couldn’t discard the idea that some overlords might be hiding while invisible or even in that sea of pollution. While his ability to sense mana has been getting a lot better lately, he still was learning how to decrease his magic presence, and he already knew that it was possible. So, overlords who had decades, if not hundreds of years of experience, might be able to completely erase all traces of their presence.

In any case, while thinking about that, several hours passed, and Luke’s focus began to wave. He covered quite the distance, and he didn’t find anything or anyone until now. No traces of battles either or of any monsters. That was boring... Thanks to that, Luke saw himself being bothered by his thirst and hunger.

"Now what..." Luke stopped and then looked around.

While his Projection could keep affecting things even after they disappear, things get more complicated when Luke tries to project food. They might quench his hunger after a while. Still, the nutrients would disappear eventually, and he would find himself even more hungry than before.

Without much of choice, Luke decided to eat the grass and the plants that were growing on the road. He didn’t have the luxury to wait until he started to starve. He wouldn’t let his battle performance decrease, after all. In any case, considering that vegetation could live despite being so close to that sea of residues, it didn’t taste anything different than what Luke imagined. It was grass... And didn’t affect Luke’s body but at least helped him shut up his stomach. He waited for a while just in case, but the food didn’t upset his stomach, so he began to move again.

Half an hour later, Luke began to feel weird. It wasn’t because of his previous meal, but because he felt that something was off. He didn’t stop running, though. Since he didn’t want to alert possible enemies of what he had realized. If he was being watched, he would use that to surprise the enemy.

Eventually, the sound of a massive splash echoed in the area, and then Luke saw a massive beast emerging from the purple ocean.

That thing was massive and probably would make someone who fears sharks faint on the spot. It was definitely some type of monster fish since it had fins and a fish-like exoskeleton that worked like armor even outside of its body. The mouth of the monster was like fifty meters tall and wide, so it could devour most monsters that Luke had seen thus far in a single instant. Considering its status, it wasn’t surprising that the monster could swim and even live under that ocean. Still, Luke couldn’t help but be amazed.
