Chapter 32: The Stern Woman

Solomon knew the woman came from another kingdom due to her fashion sense.

She was dressed in clothing that was seen as fashionable in the Kingdom of Calvin. Knowledge of his past told him this.

It reminded him of the noble clothing worn in Russia back on Earth in times of the past.

She wore a long, fitted coat made of soft velvet, with a high collar and delicate patterns stitched along the edges. The inside was lined with fur, and the layers beneath were neatly structured, giving her a graceful, noble look.

Her face was sharp, making her look stern and confident. It was as though she thought that she was greater than everybody else, even though she was in the presence of a god.

She wore makeup on her face which accentuated her beauty. Her lips were painted bright red, making her look mature.

Her hair was blonde, long, and straight, and her eyes were also golden.

The first thing she did after she appeared was look down at her clothing, making sure that she looked fine.

Only then did she look at the Clown.

Normally, Solomon would say, "Thank you for the prayer," but there was something about the woman’s demeanour that made him remain silent.

He would behave as a true god and wait for her to speak first.

The woman’s eyes finally landed on the Clown. She looked him up and down.

"Are you the God of Information?" she eventually asked with a raised brow.

Is she suggesting that a clown cannot be the holder of information? Is she suggesting that I am not worthy of that title because of my appearance?

...

Never mind. I will show you.

Solomon crossed one leg over the other and scrutinised the woman.

"Tell me, what business a spy has with the greatest god," he demanded calmly.

In that single sentence, there were two large risks.

First, Solomon had guessed that the woman was a spy.

He was able to deduce this for a few reasons.

The fact that the woman was wearing such clothes meant that she was most certainly currently located in the Kingdom of Calvin. However, Solomon had only placed the prayer of the Clown in the Redsham library, which meant that someone had stumbled across it and spread the prayer to the kingdom.

He assumed that the person who had found the prayer was a spy themselves, hoping to gain information on the Kingdom of Olaria. They must have stumbled upon the prayer and assumed that it was a secret god granting power to the kingdom.

From there, they brought the prayer back to the Kingdom of Calvin, in hopes that they could use someone to contact the god and see what he was about.

That person was the woman in front of him. A spy on the gods.

Her confidence probably came from two things. First, because she held great strength, and second, because she already worshipped the God of Creativity, whom she believed was the most powerful.

That brought Solomon to his second risk, which was claiming that he was the greatest god.

This was not a risk because of the woman, per se, but rather because of the other gods who might be listening in the Nexus.

My fellow gods, you must understand the necessity of my words. Please, forgive me this time.

...

The woman’s eyes went wide for a second; then, they turned away from the Clown, as if to hide the lie she was about to tell.

"How do you know I am a spy?" she asked.

Solomon raised a brow.

"Fool, what is my name?"

This time, she could not keep the expression from her face. It was one of shock and disbelief.

What did he just call me? Who is this rude, disrespectful god?!

As he saw the anger on her smug face, Solomon could not help but chuckle.

"Look, woman. You enter my domain, question me, and dare not to show me respect. You forget yourself."

His words only made the anger within the woman grow.

Her fists were clenched, and she leaned forwards in her chair.

"Or what? You have no vein. What can you do to me?!"

...

It was a situation Solomon had not dealt with yet, so it took him a moment to think of a response.

What can I do to someone within my realm? I know that I can’t affect their physical bodies within the tent, so any threat that I make would be empty.

Still, there must be something...

"Hmph, as I thought. You can’t harm me. It’s as my lover thought."

Your lover?

It was time for the Clown to take another wild guess. If he failed, then it would truly expose himself as a fraud.

But if it succeeded...

"Who, King Calvin XXXII?"

King Calvin XXXII was the current ruler of the Kingdom of Calvin. Aurora had made him aware that the kingdom named all of their rulers Calvin to honour the name of their god—

Calvenus, God of Creativity.

The woman lost the colour in her face. Solomon almost cheered out loud.

Bingo.

The woman began to fiddle with her Russian-inspired dress.

"H-how did you... Nobody knows that I am in love..."

Solomon did not smile, despite the urge he felt to.

"Because I am the God of Information. You say that I am incapable of harming you, and yet I know everything about you. Do you truly believe I can do you no harm?"

The stern woman bit her lip and did not answer.

Calvin himself said that this god cannot harm me... was he wrong?

...

No, I cannot doubt the love of my life. His word is absolute!

"I suggest that you leave, and once you have returned home to your lover, tell him this: it was unwise to make himself an enemy of the Clown."

The woman scrunched up her face and said nothing else before leaving and returning to her seat in the stands.

That left Solomon alone.

He buried his face in his palms.
