The Nameless Extra: I Proofread This World - Chapter 88: Dungeon Trip Preparation (2)
Julian did not spare anyone a glance. He casually walked forward and chose a seat in the middle row, where a space had been left vacant.
Ruvian glanced at him for a few seconds before looking away.
He recalled that this particular arc was not centered around the confrontation between Julian and Zian just yet. It was merely a gradual introduction.
So, there was no immediate need for him to be overly concerned with Julian causing a scene. So as long as the story continued to move along the same passage as it originally did.
Soon after, the hall gradually filled up, that included Rosalin and Violet who came in late. The quiet murmurs blended together into a low buzzing sound. ππ«πππ¨ππ―ππ πππ.ππΌπ
Later, the elective class finally began as the four instructors entered.
At the very front stood Instructor Veliana, her silver-rimmed glasses resting neatly upon her nose, her long blonde hair tied into a firm low ponytail.
Behind her were three other instructors.
The murmurs instantly died down.
Veliana walked to the center and stood beside the podium.
One of the male instructors stepped forward.
He placed both hands behind his back and spoke.
"First of all, allow me to welcome all of you scholars who have chosen this Dungeon Expedition Elective as part of your academic path."
"You could have chosen safer electives. You could have chosen theoretical research, or magic structure studies. But instead, you have chosen to step into real dungeons. That decision alone already speaks about your mindset."
He slowly walked across the front.
"This elective is not only about defeating Voidspawn and returning with glory from the dungeon. If that is what you are expecting, then you may find yourself disappointed."
"This elective is about experience. It is about understanding the unpredictability of real combat situations. In theory classes, mistakes can be corrected on paper. But in dungeon expeditions, mistakes may cost limbs... or even lives."
The hall grew extremely quiet.
"But do not misunderstand me," he continued in a calmer tone. "The academy will never send you into a place that is beyond your capability. Every dungeon that we select is carefully evaluated."
He nodded slightly.
"Through this elective, you will learn team coordination. You will learn battlefield positioning. You will learn how to manage your mana reserves in prolonged encounters. But most of all, you will learn when to advance, and more importantly, when to retreat."
He glanced at the scholars.
"And for those who aim to join the Adventuring Guild after graduation, or to serve the noble houses as private expedition forces, this elective will provide you with an experience that no ordinary lecture can give you."
He turned and nodded at Instructor Veliana, then looked back at the hall.
"Now, let us proceed to the next matter. The academy has officially booked a dungeon for the first-year scholars of this elective."
"This coming weekend, all of you will participate in your first dungeon expedition as part of this program."
"So, for today, we will provide you with a short briefing about the dungeonβs structure, its classification, and the type of Voidspawn that you may encounter."
He gestured to one of the other instructors, who began distributing sealed documents row by row.
"The dungeon that has been selected is categorized as a low-scale dungeon, recently formed within the past half year. It has already undergone multiple preliminary expeditions by certified Adventuring Guild teams."
"But before we move further, I believe it is necessary for all of you to properly understand what we mean by βscaleβ and also the different types of dungeons that exist in our world."
He turned slightly and gestured to the large manaboard behind him. Symbols and layered diagrams slowly appeared.
Ruvian listened attentively, even though he was already aware of the structure of the dungeons.
"First, let us speak about dungeon scale, which many of you casually refer to as difficulty. In the academy and the Adventuring Guild, dungeons are generally categorized into five primary scales."
[Low-scale] β [Mid-scale] β [High-scale] β [Grand-scale] β [Catastrophic-scale]
"Low-scale dungeons are weaker dungeons and usually inhabited by Lesser Voidspawn. The mana density inside is not too overwhelming, and the internal structure is relatively simple. First-year scholars are sometimes permitted to enter such dungeons under heavy supervision."
He raised another finger.
"Next, is mid-scale dungeons. These possess wider territory, more complex internal structures, and greater mana concentration. The Voidspawn inside may include stronger variants of Lesser-type, sometimes even Wretched types."
"Then, we have a high-scale dungeon. These are considered as dangerous zones. Only experienced adventurers, which are Gold ranked and above, are allowed to enter such places."
"Lastly, we have a grand-scale and catastrophic-scale. But, you donβt have to worry about that. When such a dungeon appears, it becomes a national-level matter."
He then shifted the topic.
"Now, regarding dungeon types."
The mana-screen changed again, displaying three distinct diagrams.
"In our current understanding, dungeons are divided into two main types based on origin."
[Naturally Formed Dungeons]
[Inter-Dimensional Dungeons]
He pointed at the first diagram.
"Naturally Formed Dungeons are the most common one. They exist within the same realm as our world. They are created when concentrated mana accumulates in a specific region and the Voidspawn turns them into their habitat."
He moved his finger to the second diagram.
"Another one is... we have Inter-Dimensional Dungeons. These are far more complicated. They are essentially gates that connect our world to another realm. In such dungeons, there are a lot of things that we didnβt know yet."
And what he meant by they did not know yet... was that much of the research and many of the discoveries regarding dungeons were still incomplete.
There were still too many uncertainties.
Very little concrete information had been confirmed about them.
Because of that, despite their fundamental differences, Inter-Dimensional Dungeons were still graded under the same protocol as Naturally Formed Dungeonsβclassified using the same five-scale system.
"Anyway, as I have just mentioned, the dungeon that has been selected is categorized as a low-scale dungeon and a natural type, of course."
He continued steadily. "It is considered relatively stable. The mana flow within the dungeon has reached a balanced state, and no abnormal surges have been detected in the recent month."
"You will encounter Lesser Voidspawn, mostly. So, all of their information will be explained in detail shortly."
"So, please, listen carefully and ask questions if you do not understand."
