Chapter 12: [012] Narrow

The red hued notification floated in front of his retina, reminding him of the danger zone he had unexpectedly entered.

Floki blamed himself for failing to follow what he had read about goblins. If he had practiced what he read, he would’ve known that a fleeing goblin would not simply flee but would instead lead him to its peers.

And goblin dens are one of the trickiest dens there are, and this was not because of the goblins themselves. But due to their tendency to set traps!

Floki reminded himself to take more time thinking and implementing plans before acting in the future.

At the moment, he had already taken the bait and there was no way out. He had to conquer the challenge alone.

’Fortunately, I brought my spear with me.’

He thought to himself, gripping his wooden spear firmly as he observed the narrow cave passageway where flame torches were placed along the wall at short intervals, illuminating the path ahead.

The passageway ran deep and at the moment there were no goblins in sight, not even the one he had been chasing earlier.

Floki deduced that it had gone to inform its comrades and naturally they would come charging at him very soon.

Either that or they were hiding somewhere along this passageway which had presumably been laid with different traps that would probably end him if he accidentally activated one of them. 𝘧𝘳𝘦ℯ𝓌𝘦𝒷𝘯𝑜𝑣𝘦𝓁.𝒸𝘰𝓂

Floki had one motto that had guided him back on earth and it was this. He would rather tackle what he knew and could see than tackle something he had to imagine. He derived this motto from studying stoicism.

With such thoughts in mind, he chose the first option — waiting for the goblins to attack him.

And as though his thoughts were the activation itself, loud shrieks came from the end of the passageway and seconds later, a group of small goblins began charging at him.

’Just as I expected.’

The goblin he had been chasing earlier, which had a small injury on its head, was the one charging in front of the others.

They were eleven in total.

’Too many but I can use the narrow passageway to my advantage.’

The small horde of goblins closed the distance in a short span of time and the leading one attacked with its wooden sword.

Floki deflected the strike and plunged the sharp end of the spear into its chest, slaying it as he received a kill confirmation from the system.

Without pulling the spear out of the dead goblin, he applied more strength and plunged it further, wounding the goblin directly behind it as it shrieked in pain.

The narrow passageway could only allow at most two goblins to stand side by side.

As a result, the swarming method which the goblins had used to overpower him earlier could not be employed here.

Floki leaped back and pulled his wooden spear out just as another goblin whipped a wooden baton toward his legs.

The goblin missed and the wooden baton hit the ground, resulting in a small dent.

Floki thanked his stars that he was able to evade in time. If not, receiving a ghastly wound would have been the best outcome if the attack had landed on his body.

The baton was heavy and the goblin failed to retrieve it and attack properly in time, giving Floki the chance to stab the spear straight into its head.

But with his weapon momentarily gone, another goblin saw the opportunity to strike and immediately did.

But Floki was not just good with his hands.

The effect of [Advanced Martial Arts] also imbued his body with techniques that made his lower body a lethal weapon.

Once the goblin was midair, shrieking and swinging its crude weapon down on him, Floki used the spear that was stabbed through the head of the dead goblin and into the ground as balance. Then he swung his body toward the flying goblin, delivering a perfect sweeping kick that sent it crashing into the wall, dealing a good amount of damage that weakened and disoriented its battle flow.

’This is easier than I thought..’

Floki mused to himself as he seamlessly went through the horde and slew the goblins one after another without giving them the chance to properly coordinate.

In about three minutes, all the goblins’ corpses were sprawled on the ground in their own pool of blood.

Floki stood in their midst, catching his breath slowly.

The intensity and pace of the battle had forced him to burn more stamina than he had imagined and now his stamina was down to less than 20%.

’I need to relax.’

That was the only option there was now.

If another goblin horde like the previous one should attack, he would be dead meat and also, venturing deeper into the goblin den in his current state was nothing but suicide.

While relaxing, he opened his character status to see how much experience points he had gotten thus far.

"With amount of EXP in my possession, I can very well level up twice but that would only reduce how much experience points I would get from killing these goblins," he muttered to himself.

As long as there were no goblins that posed a serious threat to him at this current level, there was no need to level up.

On the brighter side, he now had more than enough experience points to use [Quest Provider] and begin to evolve his people one after another.

His current goal was very simple - find capable men in his village, grant them missions, invest experience points in them and make them stronger and then in less than a week, they would go and conquer their enemies.

But his thoughts were interrupted as out of nowhere, a fireball exploded near his face.

Looking ahead of him, at the other end of the passageway, three goblins wearing ragged magic robes were conjuring a fireball in his direction.

’Shit!’

It seems the 2% luck stat he had represented bad luck.
