100 Ways to Solve a Murder-Chapter 77: Act 1--Darkness
2 weeks later, The National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery (NHNN)
Sam sat beside Elle, across the neurologist’s office. Dr. Kian George, an expert in neurology, one of the best in his field.
The older gentleman with black hair sat on his chair, elbows leaning against the table. He was clad in a white dress shirt under his white lab coat.
He felt lost, torn.
He felt pressure on him, not only as a medical professional but also from the board.
The president of the hospital had personally spoken with him regarding her case, everything was hush hush.
One of their generous benefactors Ivan Fredricksen had asked the president for a personal favor. It being, Sam Gray.
Seeing as Mr. Fredrciksen was one of their valuable investors, President couldn’t refuse.
Not only that, but it was also the first favor the businessman asked in all the years of his generous contributions.
And so, as one of the most distinguished experts on his field, he took on the case as per request from the President. And based on the medical file that was given to him, she was receiving VIP care under the best people in every corner of the world.
Why? Nobody knows.
They have theories of course, but nothing conclusive. But on top of the list was that Dr. Gray was Ivan Fredricksen’s mistress.
Dr. George sighed in his seat, looking at the redhead seated before him. Ms. Hart opposite her.
Looking at the test results once again, he expelled a sigh.
"I’m sorry Dr. Gray, we can’t seem to find anything wrong with your eyes particularly," he said, direct to the point. She was after all a fellow medical professional. And it was always better to be upfront with patients and not sugarcoat things.
"But we have a theory. The drug, whatever it was must have caused a damage on tthe receptors connecting your eyes to the vision center of your brain, that’s why it’s not registering," he explained. And in a hopeful tone, "We can run more tests..." he started, only to pause when he saw the redhead stand from her seat and unfolding her walking stick.
"Dr. Gray??." he asked. Sam turned to where she knew Elle was and said.
"Are we done here?"
Elle frowned, looking up at her. She couldn’t see her eyes behind the sunglasses but she could tell she had enough. But Elle was still hopeful.
"Doctor Beneker is suggesting..." she started.
Sam grunted, "Yes, I heard him like the other doctors before him." she said, then turned to Dr. Beneker.
"Thank you for your time and advice. Good day," she said, making her way towards the door. After all, she had memorized the steps she took and every turn they took going there.
Elle followed in tow after apologizing to Dr. Beneker.
She caught up to Sam just in time that the car halted before her.
"Ms. Gray." The driver greeted opening the car door for her. "Thank you, 7 Eastbourne Rd, please," Sam instructs, aware Elle was behind her. She knew her assistant didn’t agree with her visits to Levi. But 7 Eastbourne Rd. was the only place where she could sit and think and no one would ask her what she was thinking about.
In 7 Eastbourne Rd. she felt at ease, in 7 Eastbourne Rd. she felt safe.
Elle followed in tow, getting in the car after her.
"You have to at least try..." she insisted.
Sam rolled her eyes, "We had 4 so-called Specialists, I’m done with the Doctors. We keep repeating the same tests and getting the same results, let’s not fool ourselves Elle my sight isn’t coming back. Accept it. I have." she spat.
And the drive was filled with silence.
Sam opened the door the second she felt the car stop in front of Levi’s flat, she could tell how the roads felt under the tires. Every turn she had it all memorized. 𝓯𝙧𝓮𝓮𝒘𝓮𝙗𝙣𝒐𝒗𝒆𝓵.𝓬𝓸𝒎
She stepped out, tapping her stick and shut the car door before Elle could utter another word.
She climbed up the stairs carefully but easily now, she had a lot of practice after all. And she opened the door without bothering to knock, Levi looked up from his laptop and saw her walk in.
"Who was it now?" he asked, noticing how her lips wherein a thin line. He earned an exasperated sigh from the redhead.
"Some neurologist," she said, taking a seat on the sofa.
Levi shrugged and got back to solving his puzzle online.
She could hear him typing on his keyboard,
"Working on a case?" she asked, changing the topic. "No." He answered, knowing full well she was hinting on the Murder of the 15th.
"Still nothing then," Sam said thoughtfully, she stood upright after grabbing her coat and putting it on.
Levi watched, brows furrowed. He didn’t expect her to leave so quickly when she just got in, she usually stayed an hour at least every day for the past weeks. But since 3 days ago, she had been coming less and less. And he wondered quietly where she goes.
She had been silent, she had been like a ghost, showing herself only when she felt like it. It wasn’t the same visiting Guy’s, Elle had filed her Medical leave from what he heard from Anna.
Levi watched her zip her coat up, and she walked towards him, a hand reaching the edge of his seat. She was anxious, it was clear and he felt as though she wanted to tell him something. He frowned at her expression, knowing she can’t see it. Her hand reached his shoulder, gripping it lightly.
She wanted to be understood, she wanted him to understand.
She hoped he would because she cannot say it.
She knows.
She cannot say a word of it.
"I won’t be seeing you anytime soon," Sam said almost in apology, almost in goodbye. Her hand on his shoulder trailed up to his neck and up to his right cheek, and she leaned in to kiss his left.
"But I’ll see you as soon as I can." She whispered, walking out shortly.
........
5days later.
"But the drug is no longer in your system, we checked, whatever it was," Elle said trying to make a point, they had been having this discussion since that day with Dr. Beneker and it had been 5 bleedin; days.
Elle had been insisting she tries some tests and even offered to see some American Doctors in the U.S.
Sam gritted her teeth whilst fisting her hands,
"Elle, can’t you understand it? Let me put it simple enough for you. The drug that was injected in me caused permanent destruction in the tissues connecting my eyes to the visual part of my brain." she spat getting angrier.
She moved towards her bedroom in the new house she was renting in Central London.
She heard Elle follow behind her, wanting to insist still. The redhead turns, hand on the doorknob.
"I WILL.NEVER.SEE.AGAIN. That is what all the Doctors had been telling us. Get it in your thick head." she spat, opening, and then slamming her bedroom door shut.
