365 Days of Rejected Proposal: CEO's Rebellious Pet-Chapter 141: The Baby Isn’t Developing Well
Jenson carried Zinnia Lawrence back to the villa. She remained deeply asleep, undisturbed by their entry.
In the living room, a female doctor was already waiting. She immediately stood up when she saw Jenson walk in carrying Zinnia.
Jenson gave her a slight nod and headed upstairs, with the doctor instinctively following.
After placing Zinnia on the bed, Jenson stepped back and instructed the doctor in a low voice, "Be gentle. Don’t wake her."
The doctor, an obstetrician, had been summoned in the middle of the night and had assumed it was a serious emergency. She had come prepared to handle a miscarriage or severe hemorrhaging that made seeking hospital care difficult.
The current situation, however, was entirely different from what she had imagined. With a complex expression, she nodded and proceeded to examine the sleeping Zinnia.
Throughout the examination, Jenson stood by and watched, his intense gaze radiating pressure.
After the doctor finished and came out of the bedroom, Jenson immediately asked, "How is she?"
"You can rest assured, President Forrest. Mrs. Forrest and the baby in her womb are both doing very well. However, it seems Mrs. Forrest has been overly tired recently, and her body is quite frail. As she will need to provide nutrients for the baby, it’s important to remind her to get more rest and focus on her nutrition."
Jenson’s mind drifted back to the car, to the sight of her waist, which was still impossibly slender. If he hadn’t already confirmed her pregnancy, he would have found it hard to believe that such a delicate frame was quietly nurturing their baby.
He asked nervously, "Is the baby not developing well?"
"No, not at all. The baby is very healthy with a strong fetal heartbeat. You can be at ease, President Forrest."
Only then did Jenson let out a quiet sigh of relief. Seeing his tense and worried expression, the doctor felt as though she’d been force-fed a dose of PDA this late at night. Little did she know, an even bigger serving was on its way.
"Earlier, I couldn’t quite control myself... ahem, we were intimate..." Even as Jenson tried to maintain his composure, a hint of discomfort flashed across his handsome face as he brought up the topic.
The doctor, however, was experienced and accustomed to such matters. She smiled and said, "Please rest assured about that as well, President Forrest. Your wife has entered her second trimester, a stage where the pregnancy is relatively stable, so intimacy is permissible. However, it should be done in moderation. You must be gentle, avoiding anything too intense, and the duration should not be too long. You must also pay close attention to hygiene."
Jenson’s ears grew warm, and he felt a little embarrassed. But his expression was earnest, and he listened intently.
Seeing his expression, the doctor knew he cared deeply for his wife. With an attitude like that, there wouldn’t be any problems, so she didn’t feel the need to repeat her warnings. She nodded and said, "Love is the best care. Since you love your wife so much, President Forrest, there isn’t much more I need to say. Congratulations on becoming a father."
Jenson nodded gently. "Thank you."
He then asked Aunt Kramer to see the doctor out.
He showered in the adjacent room and then returned to the bedroom. Recalling the doctor’s advice about hygiene, he gently helped Zinnia freshen up before holding her and falling asleep.
Zinnia slept with a particular heaviness. Recently, her mind had been consumed with thoughts of leaving. Now that it seemed the other shoe had finally dropped, she felt completely unburdened.
She was awakened by hunger, her stomach growling loudly.
Clutching her belly, Zinnia opened her eyes to a familiar, handsome face. Golden light streamed in through the floor-to-ceiling windows, bathing the man’s features in sunlight as he lay beside her, holding her in an intimately possessive embrace.
Moreover, he was awake. It was as if he had been lying there beside her for a long time, just watching her, waiting for her to open her eyes and see him.
Zinnia was completely stunned. In their two years of marriage, this was the first time she had woken up to the sight of him.
"Why are you looking at me like that? Did you forget who I am after one nap?"
Zinnia’s gaze was dazed and strange, filled with disbelief. Jenson raised an eyebrow and spoke with a hint of amusement.
The voice was familiar. Yet Zinnia still felt as if she were dreaming. I must not be fully awake yet.
"Or did I open my eyes the wrong way?" she muttered, blinking twice before squeezing her eyes shut and snapping them open again.
The man before her had not disappeared. But this sort of thing only happens in dreams.
Zinnia raised her hand, wanting to touch his handsome face, but she hesitated, afraid that the slightest touch would shatter this beautiful dream and cause him to vanish like a mirage. Her hand hovered in the air until Jenson reached out, took her hand, and placed it on his cheek.
The real, warm touch made Zinnia snap fully awake.
It really was him.
She remembered now. He had caught her at the airport yesterday and brought her back.
"What are you mumbling about?" Jenson squeezed her small hand, then reached up to tousle her hair, his voice clear and tinged with a smile. "Are you dazed from sleep, or just silly with hunger?"
Zinnia blushed a little, her eyelashes fluttering. "Did you sleep here last night?"
"Where else would I be?" Jenson retorted, his tone surprisingly matter-of-fact.
Zinnia couldn’t understand him. "What do you mean, ’where else’? You never held me when we slept before. But now that we’re divorced, you—"
Before she could finish, Jenson leaned over and captured her lips in a kiss.
Zinnia’s eyes widened. Wait, he... isn’t he a germaphobe? I haven’t even brushed my teeth this morning! Actually, I didn’t even brush them last night. I probably taste awful! Flustered and annoyed, she gave him a firm push.
Jenson seemed to have intended only a simple good morning kiss. He didn’t linger, allowing the momentum of her push to separate them. He then pinched her cheek and said, "In the past, I was indeed derelict in my duties as a husband. From now on, I will make up for my failure. We’ve only filed the divorce papers; we aren’t officially divorced yet. During this time, you had better get used to waking up in your husband’s arms every morning."
Zinnia felt that while she understood each individual word, she couldn’t grasp their meaning when strung together. Yet, she was completely charmed by the beautiful scene his words described. But... that was the beautiful married life she had always fantasized about. Just the thought of it filled her heart with a sense of bliss.
She stared dazedly at Jenson as he rose from the bed and extended a hand to her. "Aunt Kramer has had breakfast ready for a long time. You can’t go hungry now. Since you’re awake, hurry up and get washed so we can go eat."
Zinnia’s mind was hazy, as if she were still dazed from sleep. She didn’t catch the deeper implication in Jenson’s words. Following her instinct, she placed her hand in his palm, and he pulled her out of bed and into the bathroom.
As she stood before the vanity, Jenson picked up a toothbrush, squeezed toothpaste onto it himself, and handed it to her.
Zinnia accepted it sluggishly, feeling as if she had returned to her childhood. There had been a period during a growth spurt when she was always sleepy. Sometimes, she would linger in bed even after her alarm went off, almost making herself late. Her brother would drag her out of the covers and, just like Jenson was doing now, squeeze toothpaste onto her brush. He would impatiently ruffle her hair and tease her with a roguish grin, "When the teacher makes you stand in the corner for being late, don’t come crying to me about losing face."
"What are you spacing out for?" Jenson asked when he saw her standing there frozen, toothbrush in hand. "Do I have to brush them for you?" He reached out as if he really intended to do it.
That finally snapped Zinnia out of her reverie. She quickly turned her head and clumsily shoved the toothbrush into her mouth.
