70s Delicate Girl: A Guide to Being a Rich Woman-Chapter 225: Off to Work
Xu Mumu lay on her bed reading a book, listening to the innocent chatter of the kids in the back room, and smiled faintly.
Early the next morning, Xu Mumu changed into a long dress, tied her hair into a ponytail, put on the small leather shoes Xu Minghui bought for her, slung her backpack over her shoulder, and headed to the shoe factory.
Upon arriving at the shoe factory, Du Yu was already waiting for her at the entrance.
"Mumu, over here, over here." As soon as Du Yu saw Xu Mumu’s figure appear in view, he eagerly waved her over.
"How long have you been waiting here?" Xu Mumu asked with a smile.
"Only about ten minutes. I guessed you would come around this time, so I came a little earlier," Du Yu happily replied.
"Here, this is for you." Xu Mumu handed a bag over to Du Yu. These were chicken mushrooms that a few kids found yesterday, not one had been eaten, all were here.
"So many, wow, I love these!" Du Yu said excitedly.
"If you like them, I’ll bring you more next time," Xu Mumu said warmly.
"Come on, I’ll take you to see my mom. She should be in her office now." Du Yu happily led Xu Mumu inside; she had visited the shoe factory several times before, and the gatekeeper already recognized her and wouldn’t stop her at all.
Reaching Qin Jie’s office, which also served as the women’s union in the factory, though it managed quite a bit of factory affairs, almost taking care of all the logistics, Du Yu explained the situation of the women’s union to Xu Mumu along the way.
"Mom, I’ve brought Mumu over," Du Yu said joyfully as he walked over.
"Hello, Mrs. Qin." Xu Mumu looked at Qin Jie with a gentle smile; she quite liked Qin Jie.
"Oh, Mumu is here. I’ve arranged your desk over here, right next to mine." Qin Jie pointed to the clean and relatively spacious desk beside her.
"No problem, thank you, Mrs. Qin." Xu Mumu nodded. She was aware of Qin Jie’s character and, given Qin Jie’s high status, those in this small office wouldn’t dare to bully newcomers casually.
When she came in, she noticed that besides Qin Jie, there were five others who seemed quite friendly; how they really were, she couldn’t be sure.
In fact, Xu Mumu was overthinking it; they didn’t intend to trouble her at all and even felt a bit sympathetic. Qin Jie had high standards and had dismissed several assistants before. They were quietly speculating how long Xu Mumu would last.
"Mom, this is what Mumu brought us. We ate it last year; it’s delicious." Du Yu put the items on his mom’s side.
"Oh, you! There’s no need to bring things when you come." Qin Jie said helplessly. She genuinely liked Xu Mumu. She had even asked Du Yu if he wanted to date Xu Mumu, and upon knowing he didn’t have that intention, even if they really did date, she would be pleased—though they weren’t.
"These are just things from the mountains, not worth much," Xu Mumu chuckled lightly and placed her belongings on the desk designated as hers.
The desk had basic supplies: pens, paper, a cup, and a file folder.
"Only Du Yu would have the nerve to accept. Mumu, come have lunch at my place; I’ll cook something for you." Qin Jie said with a smile.
"Alright." Xu Mumu replied with a smile.
"Why are you still standing here? Didn’t your dad arrange work for you? Go and get to it," Qin Jie said, looking disdainfully at her son.
"Got it, mom. Mumu, good luck!" Du Yu didn’t mind his mom’s disdain and cheerfully bid Xu Mumu goodbye before heading to his work station.
On the way, Du Yu had already told her that he was sent by his dad to the bottom rung of the workshop to experience life.
"Mumu, take some time to adapt first. Chen, show Mumu around our work here." Qin Jie still had a lot of work on hand and couldn’t personally accompany Xu Mumu, so she asked a girl around the same age to help her out.
Chen’s full name was Chen Meili. She was twenty-three, already married, and was working in place of her mom’s previous job.
She had been working there for over two years and was quite acquainted with the tasks.
"Hello, I’m Xu Mumu, please take care of me in the future." Xu Mumu said with a smile.
"Hello, Mr. Xu. I’m Chen Meili, sitting right next to you." Chen Meili responded with a smile. This girl is really good-looking and has such a good relationship with Director Qin; she needs to build a good relationship with her. The deputy director position in this department has long been vacant.
Chen Meili showed Xu Mumu around to understand the work they needed to do, which was primarily resolving conflicts among factory families and coordinating factory logistics. Though seemingly straightforward, it was actually quite troublesome to manage.
Moreover, Qin Jie had high expectations; much of the work they did had to be redone, making daily tasks exhausting.
Listening to Chen Meili, Xu Mumu got a general idea. The work wasn’t difficult, just a bit cumbersome.
"Mumu, here are some documents for you to practice on. Tidy them up, and let me have a look." After Chen Meili finished explaining, Qin Jie brought out a small stack of files for Xu Mumu to practice on. There was no rush; she didn’t need to finish immediately.
"Alright." Xu Mumu nodded and placed the documents on her table.
Chen Meili glanced sympathetically at Xu Mumu. Wasn’t she close to Director Qin? Why was she given so much work right away?
Xu Mumu browsed through the files with a frown; they were all over the place, too messy.
"What’s wrong? Is there something you don’t understand? Feel free to ask me directly," Qin Jie asked, seeing Xu Mumu frown. Since she was here to work, Qin Jie naturally had expectations of her. The factory’s profits weren’t great and wouldn’t waste resources on idle workers.
"No, it’s just that everything in here is too disorganized," Xu Mumu shook her head.
After browsing the accounts for a while, Xu Mumu pulled out a blank ledger from the drawer and started scribbling.
Watching Xu Mumu busy at her desk, Qin Jie smiled faintly, hoping that Xu Mumu wouldn’t disappoint her. She was, in fact, a bit eager to see how Xu Mumu would handle it.
Close to noon, Xu Mumu still hadn’t finished. Qin Jie was the first to leave, telling Xu Mumu beforehand, then asked Du Yu to come pick her up and went home to cook.
Xu Mumu quickly recorded the accounts. Although the data was messy, organizing it wasn’t hard. A simple table would suffice; the format was simple, and the data clear.
"Comrade Xu Mumu, what’s your relationship with Director Qin?" As soon as Qin Jie left, Chen Meili leaned in, her eyes full of curiosity.
