70s Delicate Girl: A Guide to Being a Rich Woman-Chapter 319: Encountering Qiu Lin in the Provincial Capital
"Not bad, how about you?" Xu Mumu asked with a smile, finally getting those words out, and Qian Rong shouldn’t pester her anymore.
"Me, just so-so." Qian Rong replied gloomily.
After fetching hot water and returning to her bed, Xu Mumu started eating her sandwich. The roujiamo Mrs. Liu made was really good. If she had the chance, she would like to bring her own mom over to learn from Mrs. Liu.
Her own mom’s cooking was just edible and not even as good as her own.
After this incident, Xu Mumu found it much easier to chat with Qian Rong, who wasn’t as eager as before.
Qian Rong’s family was in Ming Province. His father worked in a government department, and his mother took care of him and their home; their family conditions were quite good.
Qian Rong’s mother, seeing that he wasn’t young anymore, was anxious for him to find a partner. He had met quite a few girls, but unfortunately, he hadn’t taken a liking to any of them.
After the resumption of college entrance exams, Qian Rong’s mother wasn’t in such a hurry because there were plenty of girls in college, and any girl from Qian Rong’s school would be better than ordinary ones.
Qian Rong thought so too. At least the girls he met at school were better than the ones he saw before. However, every time he found a suitable girl and wanted to pursue her, he returned empty-hearted because those girls were already taken.
This time was no different, and Qian Rong was terribly frustrated. Why was it like this? He felt hopeless. Was he destined to remain single forever?
Qian Rong was very down and talked to Xu Mumu about these troubling things. He desperately needed someone to rant to.
"How old are you this year? Your mother is rushing you so much?" Xu Mumu asked curiously.
"Me? I’m twenty-four. People my age are already married, some even have kids running around, or even going to school." Qian Rong said gloomily.
"Hmm, indeed it’s time to get married." Xu Mumu said with a bit of amusement, noting that, despite Qian Rong’s baby face, he was a few years older than Xu Minghui. That face was quite deceptive.
"What about you?" Qian Rong looked resentfully at Xu Mumu, as he really had a good feeling about this girl.
"I’ll be nineteen in two months." Xu Mumu replied with a smile.
"You’re a recent graduate?" Qian Rong looked at Xu Mumu, a bit shocked, amazed that a recent graduate could perform so well in exams.
"Just lucky, I guess." Xu Mumu smiled. She was indeed lucky, not everyone got a chance to be reborn, and in a time she was familiar with, giving her more time to prepare than others.
If she had arrived during the exam period, she definitely wouldn’t have scored so well. Her good performance owed much to over a year of diligent review.
"Your luck was good enough to get into Hua University?" Qian Rong’s mouth twitched, with a look of disbelief.
"You did well too, getting into the Imperial Capital University of Political Science and Law isn’t something just anyone can do." Xu Mumu said with a light smile, noting how high the thresholds of Imperial City universities were, not easily accessible to the average person.
"It was okay. To do well, I put in a lot of effort during my review." Qian Rong smiled, reminiscing about his determination then. He had never worked so hard before. His family conditions were good, and his father had access to information, which allowed him to start reviewing earlier than others, hence his favorable outcome.
The two chatted, and their relationship grew closer.
Qian Rong was a talkative person. Once they became closer, Qian Rong grew more excited, talking about family matters and school events, turning it into a lively conversation.
Xu Mumu found his enthusiasm a bit exasperating; perhaps he was a bit silly. Before she even asked anything, he was practically laying out his cards for her. If he met someone with ill intentions, he’d be doomed.
The next evening, the train stopped at the station, and Qian Rong had already packed his things.
"Goodbye, Xu Mu classmate. When school starts, I’ll visit your campus." Qian Rong waved happily to Xu Mumu.
"Goodbye." Xu Mumu nodded, waving to Qian Rong.
After Qian Rong left, his berth was quickly filled by someone else. Without the chatterbox Qian Rong, Xu Mumu could peacefully read her book.
At the station, Xu Mumu hadn’t informed her family of her return date, so no one came to pick her up.
Carrying a large bag, she headed towards her home.
"Hey, Secretary Xu? Is it really you?" On her way, Xu Mumu was stopped by someone.
"Secretary Qiu, what are you doing in the provincial city?" Xu Mumu was surprised to meet Qiu Lin here.
"I’m here to purchase some things. Have you, on break already?" Qiu Lin looked at Xu Mumu with envy; her college entrance exam results were quite sensational in the county, something everyone knew.
"Yes." Xu Mumu replied with a smile.
"I heard you’re studying in Imperial City. I’ve never even left our provincial city." Qiu Lin said with a grin.
"Then Secretary Qiu, once you have time, you should go out more. There are lots of fun things in the Imperial City." Xu Mumu replied with a cheeky grin.
"Really? I’ll definitely take a look when I have time in the future." Qiu Lin nodded with a smile.
"Well, I have something to do, so I’ll head back first. Let’s chat more when there’s time." Xu Mumu waved at Qiu Lin.
"Sure, I won’t hold you up any longer, you’d better head home." Qiu Lin nodded.
After seeing off Xu Mumu, Qiu Lin was silent for a while. When Xu Mumu was a secretary, he had some feelings for her, but after knowing her exam results, those feelings faded. He realized he wasn’t up to par anymore.
Xu Mumu didn’t dwell on the matter with Qiu Lin, continuing on her way home. When she got to the neighborhood, several enthusiastic grandmas recognized her. These were the ones who, along with Madam Chen, she had encountered on an outing with her little brother.
After chatting with the grandmas for a bit, Xu Mumu managed to extract herself from their grip. These people loved asking about gossip, questions about why Yin Yang didn’t return, and how the Imperial City was.
Reaching her doorstep, she found the door open, with only Madam Chen and Old Xu inside playing with the little one.
"Mumu, why didn’t you tell us you were coming back? We could have picked you up earlier. Carrying all that must have been tiring." Madam Chen immediately took the large bag from Xu Mumu’s hands.
"Granny, I’m not tired." Xu Mumu smiled and shook her head, her gaze landing on her younger brother, who wore only a vest and open-seat pants. It seemed like the little guy had forgotten her again.
"Little brother, don’t you recognize your sister? Can I have a hug?" Xu Mumu put her backpack on the bench, looking at the little guy, having really missed him during this time apart.
