70s Delicate Girl: A Guide to Being a Rich Woman-Chapter 321: Showing Off
While Xu Mumu and the others were excitedly looking at photos, Xu Minglei had already returned from school. Seeing his sister back, the little guy was overjoyed.
Xu Mumu carefully looked at her younger brother. Compared to the last time she came back, he hadn’t grown taller, but he did seem a bit thinner.
"Sis, you came back without even writing to me," Xu Minglei said, holding Xu Mumu’s hand, beaming with joy. Seeing his sister home while on school break made the little guy incredibly happy.
"Can’t I come back without writing to you?" Xu Mumu teased with a smile.
"No, no, I didn’t mean it like that." Xu Minglei said, suddenly feeling embarrassed.
"Be good, just teasing you." Xu Mumu burst out laughing. Her brother was still as obedient as ever.
"Big Sis, is this the Imperial City? It looks better than our provincial capital." Xu Minglei, feeling a bit embarrassed, changed the subject as he looked at the photos. The little guy was longing, planning to go to university in the Imperial City in the future!!
"Of course, this is the capital of the country, naturally the best. Photos can’t capture everything; when you grow up, you can visit the Imperial City, there are many fun places there." Xu Mumu said gently. She wanted her brothers to study hard so they could gain broader horizons, not just circle around the small village all their lives.
"I’ll definitely go in the future." Xu Minglei said earnestly, drawn more by what his sister said.
"By the way, Grandma said you had exams; are they finished?" Xu Mumu hugged her little brother as she looked at Xu Minglei. Madam Chen and the others knew Xu Minglei studied hard but weren’t very clear about his academics.
"They’re finished." Xu Minglei’s eyes lit up significantly.
"Judging from your look, you must have done well." Xu Mumu smiled at Xu Minglei.
"Not bad, I could answer everything." Xu Minglei said, a bit shyly.
"Being able to answer is good, but don’t be careless." Xu Mumu said seriously. She taught the little ones to understand everything, not so they could be boastful.
"I checked three times." Xu Minglei nodded earnestly in assurance. What his sister said was right; because they learned a lot before, he could now keep up with the teaching in the provincial city’s middle school.
"Not bad, keep it up." Xu Mumu smiled and patted Xu Minglei’s shoulder.
As the siblings chatted, Xu Minghui returned, carrying a bunch of miscellaneous items.
"Where did you get all this stuff from, bro?" Looking at the clothes and things Xu Minghui brought back, it was a bit of a mess.
"I borrowed them. Our school is having an anniversary celebration. These are costumes for the performers on stage. It took quite an effort to borrow them. You all keep a watchful eye on little brother, make sure he doesn’t ruin them." Exhausted, Xu Minghui lay on the table, not wanting to move.
"What’s an anniversary celebration?" Madam Chen was a bit confused.
Xu Minghui explained it to Madam Chen until the elderly couple understood.
"When’s your celebration?" Xu Mumu asked curiously.
"The day after tomorrow. We’ve been rehearsing these past few days, it’s exhausting." Xu Minghui said weakly, flipping through the photos Xu Mumu brought back.
The Imperial City, the capital of the country, was something Xu Minghui yearned for too.
"Can outsiders come in to watch your celebration?" Xu Mumu looked at Xu Minghui expectantly.
"Yes, I can take you to see it then." Xu Minghui nodded. Outsiders could indeed watch, but there were no seats, so they’d have to stand in the aisles, which could be a bit inconvenient.
However, he had quite a few friends in school, so finding chairs for them to sit wouldn’t be a problem.
"Great, our school’s anniversary celebration, I don’t even know when it is, or if it’ll happen?" Xu Mumu said with some anticipation.
"I want to see it too." Xu Minglei looked eagerly at his big brother. University, he had never seen it up close, only from afar when he and Grandma walked there during holidays, wondering what it was like inside?
"Everyone goes, everyone goes." Xu Minghui said with a smile.
In the evening, Xu Hai and his wife came back, dragging their tired bodies. Seeing Xu Mumu home, their eyes instantly brightened as they warmly welcomed her.
Xu Mumu showed them the photos, and Li Caixia immediately picked a few to put in her bag. She had work tomorrow and wanted to show them off to others, to let them have a look and feel a bit envious.
Working with Director Wu on Women’s Federation activities was definitely Li Caixia’s favorite thing to do, not only getting a salary but also learning a lot of gossip; this job was almost tailor-made for her.
"What are you doing with those photos? What if they get damaged in your bag?" Madam Chen looked disapprovingly at Li Caixia.
"Mom, I’m taking them to work tomorrow to show off to the people there, I’ll bring them back in the evening." Li Caixia said excitedly. These were scenic views from the Imperial City; those country bumpkins surely hadn’t seen them. She could really look down on them for once.
"Mom, there’s no need for that." Xu Mumu’s mouth twitched, realizing her mother’s love for showing off wasn’t going to change.
"I want to take a couple to the factory too, let those people see how accomplished my daughter is." Xu Hai’s eyes were shining as he looked at Madam Chen.
Alright, Madam Chen also wanted to boast a little about their granddaughter’s accomplishments, so she gave Xu Hai two photos, repeatedly reminding them not to dirty or roll them up, and so on.
Xu Mumu couldn’t help but suspect that if they weren’t watching, her grandmother might treat these photos as family heirlooms.
If she had known they liked them so much, she would have brought back all the photos from there for them to look at as much as they wanted. Buying a camera, though, the family certainly would be reluctant to do so. Perhaps she could find time to take the family to get a family portrait taken.
But that could wait a few days. Her big brother wasn’t on break yet.
Seeing him busy running around for the school celebration, at least he seemed to be doing well in school, likely being quite valued there.
With Xu Mumu back, Li Caixia eagerly went out to buy a piece of meat. Although not much, compared to before, Li Caixia, while still quite frugal, was much better now.
"It’s better when our sister is back; mom is even willing to buy meat." After resting for a while, Xu Minghui was full of energy again. He directly picked up the little brother, tossing him up, and the little guy just loved it, giggling non-stop.
"Have I mistreated you guys usually?" Li Caixia rolled her eyes, "Besides, that’s your brother, not your toy."
Watching her eldest son tossing the youngest about, Li Caixia couldn’t help but voice a bit of complaint. This vexing son just looked annoying, not even bringing her a daughter-in-law back!!
