Chapter 336: Little Brownnoser

No matter how much Yan Wei struggled, she was still dragged away, and the father and daughter were taken. The room was eerily quiet, and there were others who shared Yan Wei’s thoughts, but they didn’t dare to act. Yan Wei’s fate today sounded an alarm for everyone.

Everyone looked at Yin Yang with even more fear in their eyes. One could say Yan Wei’s life was completely ruined.

"If anyone dares to have improper thoughts again, this will be their fate," Yin Yang said coldly. Already exhausted, having to handle these matters made his face even grimmer.

"We don’t dare, we don’t dare," everyone hastily shook their heads, not even daring to make eye contact with Yin Yang.

"Go and rest," he waved his hand at them wearily.

Once the room quieted down, Yin Yang sighed slightly. What a mess, he thought. If Mumu knew, she would definitely be unhappy. Smiling bitterly, he lay down on the bed.

Xu Mumu was unaware of what was happening with Yin Yang. She got up early the next day as Xu Jiaojiao and the others were going to look for mushrooms, and Xu Mumu hadn’t been in a long time.

Aside from Xu Xue and Xu Wan, the rest of the children from the house followed them up the mountain.

The sun was a bit strong, so Xu Mumu wore a straw hat that Xu Jiaojiao had prepared, showing her attentiveness.

The mountain was lush and green. Standing halfway up, she looked down to see many workers in the fields busily toiling.

"The brigade hasn’t changed much," Xu Mumu remarked with some sentiment.

"The brigade is just like this; what change could there be?" Xu Jiaojiao looked at her sister in confusion.

"Are you all adjusting to junior high?" Xu Mumu asked Xu Jiaojiao and the others. If they were having difficulties, they could consider repeating a grade.

"We’re doing fine. Why does big sister ask?" Xu Jiaojiao replied with a smile.

"It’s good if there are no issues," Xu Mumu smiled and nodded. Her worry about them not adjusting seemed pointless. Especially Xu Jiaojiao, who had grown taller and seemed more cheerful.

"Big sis, let’s study second-year courses during the summer vacation. I want to skip a grade next semester," Xu Jiaojiao said, eyes gleaming as she looked at Xu Mumu. She had been previewing on her own but found many things difficult to understand. With big sis at home for two months, they could learn a lot.

"You want to skip a grade again?" Xu Mumu raised an eyebrow, seeing the eager faces of the little ones. They seemed to think skipping grades was as easy as in primary school. Fine, let them try for themselves. They’d learn and appreciate it once they hit obstacles. She was happy they wanted to learn more.

"Yes, big sister, we also want to," Xu Tao spoke up immediately. They missed big sister when she wasn’t home.

"I want to as well, sis," Xu Minglei looked at Xu Mumu. He was the elder brother, so he couldn’t lag behind Xu Jiaojiao and the others. It was his last stand as the elder brother.

"Alright, it’s up to you. If you really can skip a grade, I won’t stop you. You can study, as long as you come here every afternoon to study together," Xu Mumu smiled and nodded. She had all the junior high textbooks, and the kids were clearly prepared. Even Xu Minglei had gotten a set of second-year books.

"I knew you were the best, big sis," Xu Jiaojiao said happily.

"Flatterer. Let’s go find mushrooms and look for some wild fruits nearby," Xu Mumu said with a smile. She was in a good mood; her siblings were ambitious and industrious, which was great.

After searching for a while on the mountain, Xu Mumu felt hot. Many people had come to the mountain to forage, but she didn’t see many girls her age. The ones she knew had mostly married, leaving only those around Xu Jiaojiao and Xu Wan’s age.

Seeing these people, Xu Mumu felt sentimental. She’d been in this world for more than two years; time flew by.

"Tiedan, has your sister married too?" Xu Mumu asked while eating some snake berries, looking at Tiedan.

"She married! She even sent a letter recently. She already has a kid," Tiedan said with a smile. He knew Xu Mumu was asking about his cousin Zhao Qian; all other cousins were married.

"Time flies," Xu Mumu said, a bit surprised.

"Not really. The days in school are so slow," Tiedan said, a bit troubled. Among the kids, his and Xu Tao’s grades weren’t the best, so they felt a bit embarrassed whenever asked about them.

"I feel the same way. I haven’t seen big sis for so long and was counting the days for her return," Xu Jiaojiao smiled sweetly.

"Why is your mouth so sweet, like it’s coated in honey?" Xu Mumu laughed, handing Xu Jiaojiao the snake berries. The little girl knew how to please, and Xu Mumu liked it.

"Thank you, big sis, I’m just speaking the truth," Xu Jiaojiao blinked innocently.

Listening to the kids chatter about fun things at school, Xu Mumu paid close attention. The young ones had a good bond.

When they brought the stuff back, the sun was blazing. Xu Po carried the goods and took two rabbits to the county.

They kept some damaged mushrooms at home for lunch today.

Madam Chen was at the village entrance with the boys, boasting under the locust tree with the brigade. Considering how successful Eldest Xu’s family was, having moved to the provincial city and both finding jobs, the villagers were both envious and impressed.

Many gathered here, mainly the elderly who didn’t work in the fields.

Madam Chen lived well, naturally attracting a lot of envy.

Returning home, Xu Mumu felt too hot to move. She waved a palm fan quickly.

"Big sis, here’s some cool water, want to wash up?" Xu Jiaojiao brought a basin of cool water.

"Yes," Xu Mumu immediately replied, putting her hands in the cool water. The refreshing sensation made her wish she could pour the whole basin over herself if there weren’t so many people around.

After carefully washing with a cloth, she didn’t feel as hot anymore, feeling much more comfortable.

"This year seems hotter than last," Xu Mumu commented, looking at the sky. It wasn’t this hot at the same time last year.

"A bit, the reservoir’s water level isn’t as high as last year. My dad even went to check it out, but as we’re close by, there’s no worry about drought," Xu Jiaojiao didn’t mind the heat. The heat might cause some droughts for those far from the reservoir.

Nearer brigades weren’t worried since the reservoir was nearby; drought wouldn’t reach them.
