Chapter 51: Taking Care of Du Yu

"No problem, just let me know when you have the recruitment exam." Xu Mumu said with a smile, not expecting Du Yu to be so thin-skinned and already feeling a bit embarrassed.

"Don’t worry, I’ll definitely notify you first." Seeing Xu Mumu truly not in a hurry, Du Yu slightly relaxed.

"Mm, I still need to thank you." Xu Mumu said with a bright smile.

"If you want to thank me, then tutor me properly." Du Yu said awkwardly.

"Tsk tsk tsk, even those who don’t study well are now going to study well. You all are crazy." Xue Yan looked at them speechlessly. These two can’t stop talking about studying; she’s tired of hearing it.

During the afternoon’s math exam, Xu Mumu found everything went even smoother. She had studied science in her previous life and found these topics quite interesting.

When Xu Mumu walked out of the classroom, she saw Xue Yan and Du Yu looking dejected.

"What’s up with you two? Who bullied you?" Looking at them, Xu Mumu found it amusing.

"Mumu, I couldn’t do a lot of the exam questions." Du Yu said with a mournful face, feeling quite stuffed. During tutoring, he felt he understood many things, but when it came to the exam, he realized he still didn’t know much.

"Me too, the questions know me, but I don’t know them. Looking at those symbols makes my head spin. Oh my god, why do we have to study!!" Xue Yan let out the wail of a struggling student.

"Didn’t you finish reading your notes?" Xu Mumu ignored Xue Yan and looked at Du Yu.

"I finished reading them." Du Yu leaned lazily against the wall, seemingly lacking his usual enthusiasm.

"Then what are you worried about? I recorded plenty of typical question types and they all appeared in the exam." Xu Mumu looked at Du Yu. Although it’s hard to remember everything in the notebook in just a few days, it’s completely possible to remember some of it.

"It’s my fault." Du Yu said guiltily, "You recorded so much, it gave me a headache just looking at it, so I only went over it twice and didn’t look at it anymore."

"That’s your own fault. Studying is your responsibility. I didn’t force you to study, and here you are slacking off?" Xu Mumu stared at Du Yu.

"Oh come on, Mumu, don’t be so serious. It’s just one exam." Looking at Xu Mumu’s serious expression, Xue Yan found her presence suddenly very strong. She was a bit scared; Xu Mumu had looked at her like this before when she provoked the bet between her and Xiao Mengqin.

"Mumu, I know I was wrong. I’ll go home and properly memorize what’s in your notebook." Du Yu said with his head down. Xu Mumu’s demeanor made him a bit fearful; he hadn’t seen such an aura from even his father.

"Remember what you said. Here are the notebooks for the other subjects, take them and memorize everything." Xu Mumu casually handed over a few more notebooks from her backpack to Du Yu.

"So many?!!" Seeing the several notebooks in his hand, Du Yu couldn’t even think about anything else.

"Once you understand everything in them, you’ll see there’s not much at all." Xu Mumu said lightly. If it weren’t for earning that tutoring fee and Du Yu seeming quite agreeable, she wouldn’t have bothered with all this.

"Alright, alright." Looking at Xu Mumu’s stern face, Du Yu rubbed his arms, still a bit scared, and obediently agreed. If his parents knew Xu Mumu gave him notes to study, they would probably be overjoyed.

Thinking of that scene, Du Yu shivered.

Xue Yan silently watched without speaking.

After waiting for a while, Xu Mumu saw Zhao Qing. The group directly headed home; after finishing the exams, they could go back, ready to take more tomorrow.

Before parting ways with Du Yu, Xu Mumu still reminded him: "When you go back, focus more on the phrases and sentences I wrote down for English. Don’t bother memorizing vocabulary; cramming won’t help much and might not even be on the exam. Memorize more common sentence structures; they’ll be useful for compositions."

"Don’t worry, I’ll study until midnight." Du Yu said confidently. Not having done well in math, he wanted to regain his face in English, even though his English wasn’t great either.

"Mumu, how did your exams go today?" With Du Yu gone, Zhao Qing finally asked Xu Mumu.

"Pretty good, everything I memorized appeared on the exam." Xu Mumu said with a smile.

"Really? That’s fantastic." Zhao Qing said with a smile. Zhao Qing knew a bit about Xu Mumu’s previous performance; hearing Xu Mumu say she was prepared for everything that was tested and judging by her tone, she probably did well. Zhao Qing couldn’t help but feel happy for her.

"Qing, how did you do in your exams today?" Xu Mumu asked. The boy’s intense gaze made her slightly uncomfortable, a result of the original owner creating too many admirers.

"Just okay." Zhao Qing’s face turned a bit red, and he couldn’t look directly at Xu Mumu’s eyes. Xu Mumu’s eyes were beautiful, large, and spirited, as if there were ripples in them.

"Qing’s scores are good, so you must have done well too." Xu Mumu said with a smile.

Seeing the boy’s face turning red, Xu Mumu didn’t know what else to say.

"There’s only half a semester left until we graduate. After that, we won’t be able to go to and from school together." Zhao Qing’s expression suddenly became a bit downcast.

"It’s okay, I can do fine on my own. You know I’m very capable; who would dare bully me?" Xu Mumu said seriously, trying to emphasize her toughness, hoping that the boy would discard his romantic image of her from his heart.

"Well, alright." Zhao Qing said with a touch of sadness. An unrequited love isn’t something you can just stop once you’ve started. He seemed to like Xu Mumu even more now.

Zhao Qing cheered himself on, deciding to confess to Xu Mumu after graduation. If she agreed, he would ask his mother to arrange a proposal to Xu Mumu’s family.

Unaware of Zhao Qing’s plan, even not knowing he was thinking about marriage, if Xu Mumu found out, she’d definitely give him a thrashing.

Each lost in their thoughts, the two walked home. Upon returning, Xu Mumu noticed that the people from the third household had come back.

"Third Uncle, Third Aunt." Xu Mumu greeted casually. Several young ones were already waiting outside Xu Mumu’s room, and seeing her return made their eyes light up.

"Big Sis, I dug up some grass roots for you. I’ve cleaned them, please eat them." Xu Jiaojiao brought over a small basket filled with many grass roots.
