70s Delicate Girl: A Guide to Being a Rich Woman-Chapter 53: Xu Xue’s Plan
"How dare you!" Lin Juan felt her anger burn in her chest, this brat, if it weren’t for needing her, how could they possibly be this humble? This brat still didn’t appreciate it, it really infuriated her to death.
"What wouldn’t I dare? Go ahead and try. If you’re thinking of scheming something from Grandpa and Grandma, I advise you to forget it, it’s impossible. If you keep this up, I can move you from the county back to the countryside." Xu Mumu’s face suddenly showed a smile, a rather chilling smile.
The couple from the third branch left early in anger. Over in the second branch, Xu Xue was also teaching Xu Wan how to read. Xu Wan hadn’t been to elementary school and had to start from scratch, but fortunately, elementary school knowledge wasn’t too hard.
"Xue, do you really want to send little Wan to the village elementary school?" Xu Jiang looked at his eldest daughter, feeling conflicted. He felt that her ideas were getting bigger and bigger. The family had just divided, and what was allotted to the second branch was almost the worst, with little money, everything had to be spent carefully.
Actually, he somewhat agreed with the old couple’s words; it’s useless for girls to study. Xu Wan was two years older than Xu Minglei. In a few more years, she would be ready for marriage, so what’s the point in studying now?
A little education might make her more presentable for marriage, but given Xu Wan’s age, starting school now was just a waste of time and money.
If she worked in the fields, she’d earn several work points.
"Wanwan, do you like studying?" Xu Xue took a deep breath, feeling powerless against her parents’ timid nature.
"I do, studying is interesting." Xu Wan whispered, looking at her father.
She actually envied Xu Mumu for being able to teach Xu Minglei and Xu Jiaojiao, but she didn’t dare say so. She knew her elder sister didn’t like her or the people from the second branch.
It was already very satisfying and she felt happy that her sister was willing to teach her.
Though she didn’t know where her sister had learned from, she enjoyed learning very much.
"The tuition fees are still expensive." Xu Jiang said with difficulty. Their house was very narrow, everything was old and had been used for many years. He just wanted to work hard to earn work points, hoping to get more grain at the end of the year, which could then be sold for money.
Once they had money, he wanted to renovate their house and build two more rooms, so they could have more storage space.
Now the second branch only had two rooms, with even the grain stored in the bedrooms, and everything crammed into these two rooms.
Fixing the house was Xu Jiang’s most important concern, so he didn’t want to spend money elsewhere.
Studying came with tuition fees, and books weren’t cheap either.
"Dad, I’ll find a way to earn money." Xu Xue pressed her lips together, fully aware of their family’s predicament.
However, she’d been searching for medicinal herbs in the mountains these days. Once she had enough dried, she could take them to the county to sell. Though she didn’t recognize the more valuable herbs, she knew the ordinary ones.
For now, this was her first step in making money.
Once she had some capital, she wanted to go back to what she did in her past life. She was good at making food, and if she started by selling snacks in the black market, she could eventually open a restaurant when the policies relaxed. She was confident in her cooking skills and was sure she could make money then.
However, all these plans were things she wanted to do slowly by herself, without telling anyone. Only Xu Wan knew she was drying herbs when they went to the mountains together.
"You’re just a young girl, why worry about earning money? You have your mom and me." Seeing the determination on Xu Xue’s face, Xu Jiang was getting headaches again. He didn’t know what his two daughters had been up to lately, being all secretive and not telling them anything even when asked.
"You’ll find out in time." Xu Xue didn’t want to say more, knowing it wouldn’t help. If anything, it might provoke strong opposition from her parents. It was better to show results first and persuade them later.
"Xue, you shouldn’t get involved in those speculative activities, alright?" Xu Jiang said seriously, worried his daughter might go astray given her secretive behavior.
"I know." Xu Xue said calmly. There’s a saying that brave people take the risks and the timid ones starve. How could she not seize the opportunity? With memories from her past life, she was confident she could avoid many risks.
Xu Xue felt her younger sister had a lot of talent for studying, learning things quickly.
Xu Mumu actually felt that the Xu Family kids weren’t fools, and they were decent learners.
Even the most troublesome Xu Minglei could sit quietly and learn, let alone the others.
Xu Jiaojiao and Xu Tao were kids who could sit still while studying, and Xu Jiaojiao had the best talent in that regard.
Regarding the plan of the third couple to return to the county, only the old couple cared at home, while others didn’t really bother.
Li Caixia felt so pained. If it weren’t her own daughter, she’d have scolded her harshly. That was a dress worth several yuan, and you couldn’t get it without a fabric voucher. Was her daughter losing her mind?
Li Caixia complained to Xu Hai in their room. Xu Hai felt equally pained but shrugged; once it’s gone, it’s gone. He didn’t think much of the third branch; after all, he was just a temp worker in the county, yet he acted like a big shot at home. Xu Hai wasn’t going to kiss up to him.
If there was a chance for promotion, they’d rather push their son for it than give that opportunity to the third branch and have them return to mock them after getting promoted.
"Alright, stop feeling sorry." Xu Hai calmly reassured Li Caixia, grabbing a handful of pumpkin seeds she had put away and leisurely chomping on them.
"How can I not feel sorry? That’s something worth several yuan. What has gotten into that girl to make her so generous?" Li Caixia was troubled endlessly.
"I think it’s quite alright like this. Do you really want Mumu to plead for them, to secure their promotion?" Xu Hai said as he munched on the seeds.
"Of course not, but that doesn’t stop us from accepting things." Li Caixia said righteously.
"If we take their things and don’t deliver, that third branch would definitely go out and ruin Mumu’s reputation." Xu Hai understood his brother well, as well as his sister-in-law, though they weren’t home often.
"Let them try, I’d go teach them a lesson myself." Li Caixia said fiercely.
"Calm down, Minghui and Mumu are not young anymore. Let’s behave ourselves these next two years. We can’t mess up the kids’ marriages." Xu Hai said slyly, placing the peeled pumpkin seeds in front of Li Caixia.
