A Former Police Officer Who Died And Get A Second Life!-Chapter 108: A New Family and Open Hearts
After finishing lunch together in a friendly atmosphere, Qiong Xing and the others were invited by Naz’s kindness to look around the workshop.
"I’ve never seen this before, but it looks like very hard work."
Large barrels filled with many kinds of alcohol were lined up all over the room.
He did not know the details of how it was made, but thinking that Naz handled all of this by himself, it must be extremely heavy labor.
When Qiong Xing smiled and said it was impressive, Naz blushed shyly and lowered his head.
"I-I only make it. I-I leave the selling to my uncle, so it’s not amazing at all..."
"It’s more than enough. And it isn’t a bad thing to leave what you cannot do to someone who can. People say that everyone has their proper role. And besides—"
"And besides?"
Qiong Xing glanced toward Duzy and smiled.
"Your uncle seems happy about it. It’s important to work hard on your own, but sometimes it’s also necessary to rely on someone."
Qiong Xing did not know what had happened to Naz in the past and he had no intention of asking about things that he did not want to talk about.
He simply hoped that Naz who was still doing his best alone could spend his days happily without lowering his head.
"That’s right. Don’t go worrying about strange things," Duzy said while patting Naz’s head with his large hand.
Naz suddenly began to cry, tears falling one after another.
"B-but I’m always being helped by my u-uncle and I haven’t been able to give anything back..."
"You don’t need to."
Naz was probably a serious person.
When someone did something for him, he felt he had to give something back.
That way of thinking was not wrong at all and the fact that Naz could think like that was admirable.
It was not a matter of taking things for granted and if there was something he could return, there was no problem in doing so.
But separate from that, there were also people who devoted themselves simply because they wanted to, without expecting anything in return.
Duzy was that kind of person.
He wanted to do things for his beloved nephew and he was simply doing what he could.
"As you feels sorry for relying on your precious uncle, your uncle also wants to do things for the Naz he treasures. So, please smile. Show him with your smile how happy you are right now."
When someone dear to you is smiling,
that alone can make a person feel happy and at peace.
"I understand because I have a child too. It makes me very happy when my child smiles."
Qiong Xing had never imagined that he would become a parent so soon after coming to this world, but now he found Cari adorable beyond words.
Just being called "Mama" with a smile made him happy and when Cari said "I love you," he felt like he wanted to do anything for him.
"E-even if someone like me smiles... huh? W-wait a minute? Q-Qiong Xing... you have a child?"
Naz looked surprised that Qiong Xing who seemed about the same age already had a child.
"Yes, I do. Well, we’re not related by blood, but he is my child now."
Duzy had met before, but Naz had not, so he looked like he could hardly believe it.
"So that means you really did mate with that guy, huh."
The one Duzy referred to was Leander and when Qiong Xing said there were two others as well, they were quite shocked.
Considering what humans here had done until now, their reaction was understandable, but for Qiong Xing, becoming mates with Leander and the others was not strange at all... Rather, it had brought him nothing but happiness.
"It doesn’t seem to be widely accepted here, but I have no regrets. I was alone for a long time, so now that I have a family, I’m very happy."
He smiled at Leander as if to say, "See?" and Leander smiled back happily and hugged him.
If they could not understand, that was fine.
Just because others did not understand did not mean Qiong Xing would ever let go of Leander and the others’ hands.
"...For a long time? You were alone?"
"Hmm, since I was a child. It’s already a story from long ago."
In his previous life, he had been struggled alone since ehe could remember, but that was all in the past and since he was happy now, that was enough.
"Well, you don’t have to force yourself to accept it. If you can’t, just say so, and I’ll make sure the two of you don’t have to interact with us from now on."
He had no intention of forcing people here to understand something that was not considered normal.
"I ain’t worried about that. Uh... well, when I saw you before, I kinda figured that might be the case."
As expected, Duzy had noticed.
Just like when he had been with Elias and the others, even if Duzy did not speak much, he had never once looked at them with judgmental eyes.
When Qiong Xing turned his gaze toward Naz to see his reaction, Naz shook his head vigorously.
"I-I’m okay too. I... haven’t really had much contact with beastmen, but... I can tell that Leander really loves you, so I’m not afraid."
...That was a relief.
Qiong Xing had somehow felt that these two would be alright, but hearing them say it out loud made him happier than anything.
He smiled at Leander who gently stroked his back as if to say he was glad.
"Still, three beastmen, huh... are you really okay? It must be hard to live in this town."
Qiong Xing felt happy at Duzy’s words of concern for Leander and the others, so he explained that they lived on the outskirts of town so there was no problem.
When Duzy heard that, he seemed satisfied.
