A Former Police Officer Who Died And Get A Second Life!-Chapter 128: Learning to Use Magic
"I understand that fire and water are useful in daily life," Qiong Xing said. "But what are wind and earth used for?"
He asked this simple question, but for some reason Albe looked at him with an expression of disbelief.
"Hey... don’t tell me," Albe said slowly. "When you think about magic, you only think about how convenient it would be for daily life?"
"Huh? Isn’t that what it’s for?"
"No. It’s not."
Oh?
It seemed that at a very basic level, Qiong Xing did not understand the true use of magic.
"Well, using it in daily life isn’t wrong," Albe continued. "But for us demons, magic is mainly a way to attack."
"Ahhh... I see."
Qiong Xing finally understood.
Because he came from a world where magic did not exist, when he suddenly gained the ability to use magic, he had only thought about how it could make daily life easier.
Since he had not experienced any real battles yet, the idea of using magic for fighting had never crossed his mind.
"Um... if it’s for attacking," Qiong Xing said thoughtfully, "I can understand fire and water. But how do you use wind and earth to attack?"
Fire attacks and water attacks were things he could imagine from history or stories.
But wind and earth were natural elements and he could not quite imagine how they would be used as weapons.
"There are many ways," Albe replied casually. "You can compress wind and use the force to cut things apart or you can create something like a typhoon and trap your enemies inside it. As for earth, if you harden it, it can become a shield or pierce through enemies. And if there’s someone you don’t like, you can even bury them under the ground. That’s why I like earth magic."
Qiong Xing listened carefully and nodded along, but the last part sounded strangely specific.
It almost sounded like Albe was speaking from experience.
When Qiong Xing asked, it turned out that Albe’s attributes were fire, wind, and earth.
"...There are many ways to use it," Qiong Xing said thoughtfully. "But first, let’s try something basic. Like lighting a campfire or creating drinking water."
They decided to start with something simple.
Since it would not hurt to learn, Qiong Xing gathered some small branches and prepared to light a fire.
He lightly poked the pile of branches and imagined a small spark, like the flame from a match.
"Back when I played with fire as a kid, I remember panicking because I didn’t know how to put it out... Ah, it worked."
A small flame suddenly appeared.
"Yeah, good for you," Albe said. "But you did it so normally that it’s kind of disappointing."
Apparently, Albe had been expecting something more dramatic.
"Well then, it’s Cari’s turn," Qiong Xing said.
He told Cari to try sending wind toward the fire he had just started.
"Uuuh... hmm... I don’t get it."
Cari groaned and waved his hands around, even fanning the fire with them.
But in the end he still could not understand how to do it.
He looked close to tears as he asked for help.
It made sense.
Cari had barely used magic before and he had never even tried to create wind like this.
Of course it would be difficult.
"Hmm, let’s see..."
Qiong Xing thought about it.
In his mind, he could imagine something like blowing air through a bamboo tube, like people used to do in his previous life to feed air to a fire.
But Cari probably had no idea how strong the wind should be or how to create it.
Qiong Xing watched Cari quietly for a moment. Then suddenly he thought of something and waved for Cari to come closer.
"What is it, Ma—wah!"
As soon as Cari stepped closer, Qiong Xing leaned forward and gently blew air toward Cari’s face.
"I’m sorry, that surprised you, didn’t it?" Qiong Xing said with a small smile. "But that’s the feeling. Imagine breathing in deeply and then blowing the air out. Gather the wind magic in your hand and blow it toward the campfire."
"Hmm... gather it... and then... fuuu..."
Technically, Cari did not need to blow with his mouth.
But maybe doing it that way made it easier to imagine.
While blowing softly, a small breeze began to come from his palm and move toward the fire.
"I did it!!"
"Nice!" Albe said, sounding impressed. "It took me a long time before I could do that. If you can do that much, the rest is just applying it. Make the wind bigger, smaller, or even turn it into a thin blade. Then you could cut a big tree or... other things."
Qiong Xing decided not to ask what those "other things" were.
Still, it seemed that imagination was very important when using magic.
Of course, wanting to do something was important. But having knowledge also mattered.
For example, if you knew how much heat a match produced when lighting a fire, you could better imagine how much power you needed and what kind of result it would create.
"In that case, wind seems fine," Qiong Xing said. "Next, let’s try water."
"Okay!" Cari replied energetically.
Perhaps because he had gained a little confidence, Cari quickly turned to look at Albe as if saying, Hurry up and teach me the next thing.
After that, both Cari and Qiong Xing successfully used water magic to create drinking water.
Qiong Xing was happily thinking that’s good, that’s good, but then a thought suddenly came to his mind.
Yes, he ended up thinking about it.
If they could create water, then maybe they could also make it rain.
Not a heavy storm, but a gentle rain that fell quietly.
Qiong Xing had always liked that kind of rain.
As he remembered the scenes he had seen many times in his previous life, he must have done it unconsciously.
Without realizing it, he had poured magic power into the thought.
And just like that, rain began to fall from the sky.
