A Former Police Officer Who Died And Get A Second Life!-Chapter 137: When Qiong Xing Collapsed
He placed a hand on his aching stomach as he crouched over while enduring the dull and persistent pain he felt.
He tried to distract himself from th pain by wondering what he had eaten earlier that caused it.
"Maam... Mama..."
Before he knew it, Cari had woken up.
The small child’s tiny hand was gently rubbing Qiong Xing’s back as he crouched on the ground.
"Thank you, Cari... Albe, where did he go?" Qiong Xing asked.
He felt a small sense of relief seeing Cari so caring, but he also couldn’t leave Albe worrying.
"He’s going to get Papa. Cari is protecting Mama," Albe explained.
He had made the decision himself and gone to get help.
With only Qiong Xing and little Cari there, it would have been difficult to protect themselves if anything went wrong.
"I see... then I’ll just sit here and wait," Qiong Xing said.
After dragging his heavy body to the base of a nearby tree, he sank down with the thick trunk supporting his back.
Cari immediately offering quiet comfort by sat beside him and gently stroked his hand over Qiong Xing’s stomach.
"Thank you. Cari... you’ve made it a little easier," Qiong Xing said.
The cool and soothing sensation that was probably from Cari’s magic helped ease the pain and he let out a quiet sigh of relief.
"Cari is big brother, after all," the child said proudly.
"Yeah... it’s a shame Mayo can’t see this, but Cari is really a reliable and responsible bih brother," Qiong Xing said.
Why Cari suddenly insisted on saying that, he didn’t know.
But it seemed the boy wanted to show that he was capable now.
Qiong Xing nodded and praised him by telling him he was doing well.
"Qiong Xing! Qiong Xing, where are you!"
"Papa!"
Before Qiong Xing could respond, Cari dashed off toward the voice as if calling for help.
The shout came from Joa who had arrived unexpectedly.
Seeing Joa rushing toward Cari, Qiong Xing felt a wave of relief wash over him so strongly that he momentarily lost consciousness from the tension and worry.
...
When Albe returned, his face showing an unfamiliar panic and Joa felt a bad premonition.
So, he ran over as soon as possible and sure enough, Qiong Xing and Cari were nowhere in sight.
A cold sweat ran down his back as he realized something was wrong.
Before he could even ask what had happened, Albe practically lunged toward him and shouting, "Help!" with such urgency that Joa didn’t even take the time to explain.
He quickly let him guide him to the location.
"I’m sorry... I didn’t know what to do," Albe said, her voice shaking.
"It’s fine. More importantly, we need to hurry up," Joa replied.
Joa who is likely using a magic to enhance his speed or strength moved very quickly and Albe followed him without falling behind.
Soon, they found Qiong Xing who is laying down under the tree and his face looks pale and weak.
Seeing Joa, Qiong Xing seemed to relaxed completely as he then fell into a deep sleep in Joa’s arms.
Without wasting a moment, Joa immediately carried him straight back to the hideout.
At that moment, Qiong Xing’s body that was limp and heavy in Joa’s arms make him briefly remember with his late wife Vita.
He shook the thought off, not wanting it to linger in his mind and gently laid Qiong Xing who still had not regained consciousnesson on the bed.
"Fever... doesn’t seem like it. His appetite has been low recently, so maybe he’s lacking nutrition? Albe, what did he eat for lunch?" Joa asked.
"Um... meat. We hunted rabbits and grilled them. And then... um..."
"We made soup with Cari’s water. But Mama didn’t eat much," Cari added clearly as he explaining the situation.
Joa raised an eyebrow at Cari’s unusually calm demeanor but figured the boy just didn’t fully understand the seriousness of things.
He brushed the sweat from Qiong Xing’s forehead and rubbed his back gently as he curled up in bed.
Albe who is worry went to fetch Leander and Elias to help.
"Mama... tummy hurts... but just a little longer," Cari whispered.
"What? Cari, what do you mean..."
"Qiong Xing!"
Before Joa could ask what the boy meant, Leander and Elias burst into the room, which stopping him from finishing his words.
Leander tried to hug Qiong Xing, but Joa gently pushed him away.
He understood Leander’s concern, but moving Qiong Xing too much could make things worse.
He let Leander switch with Elias to help soothe Qiong Xing’s back, while handing a cloth to Elias to wipe the sweat from his forehead.
"What happened?" Leander asked urgently.
"I don’t know. Albe said he suddenly felt unwell and couldn’t stand up," Joa explained.
From the symptoms and the situation, it didn’t seem like a simple cold.
Qiong Xing had felt unwell before, but it was only fatigue and lack of appetite, it’s never enough to make him collapse.
It had seemed manageable even if recovery took a few days.
"Damn it, what is it... Qiong Xing, Qiong Xing!" Leander called out his name desperately.
"Hey, you’re going to wake him. Let him rest," Joa said firmly.
There was nothing more they could do.
All Joa could do was warn Leander to stay calm as he watched Qiong Xing lying there.
Taking him to a human doctor was impossible.
This area only had beastmen and demon.
If they tried to carry Qiong Xing to the town, they would be seen as suspicious and likely stopped by the guards.
Joa felt frustrated and powerless, he silently stayed in the corner of the room while keeping an eye on Qiong Xing.
How much time had passed since then?
Qiong Xing had been sleeping continuously as he lying still in the bed.
In the corner of the room, Joa who had been sitting on a chair opened his eyes and realized he had dozed off.
On his lap, Cari was also fall asleep as he breathing softly.
