A Former Police Officer Who Died And Get A Second Life!-Chapter 139: Overprotected
He himself hadn’t changed much, but everyone around him became overly worried and protective.
Acting alone became impossible.
There was always someone nearby to watch over him.
When he worried about it interfering with his work, Fei who had been brought along by Joa was very blunt about it.
"Watching someone worried and fidgety like you can be fun, but during work it’s annoying and in the way. If you want to be reassured, you’ll have someone stay with you, so just accept it."
Hearing that serious tone, Qiong Xing felt even more apologetic and had no choice but to agree.
On top of that...
"You’re weaker than anyone else here, so just stay put. What will you do if something happens while you’re pushing yourself?"
"Uh, well, even if I’m pregnant—"
"No! That doesn’t matter! You’re so weak you can’t even beat a kid. Whatever you say, it’s no good! Now, hurry back to your room!"
"...Yes, I’m sorry."
As usual, he had thought about going to the kitchen to cook something and trying to slip past the protective ring of his guards, but Fei caught him while he was arguing with the cooks.
They had insisted that a fragile Qiong Xing shouldn’t be doing anything so strenuous.
At first, he tried to resist, but Fei, with his motherly attitude argued back many times over.
Eventually, Qiong Xing admitted defeat and apologized, though he hadn’t really reflected on it.
Since everyone knew he was pregnant, they became even more gentle or overprotective.
Just walking alone could trigger someone to rush to him in alarm, which surprised Qiong Xing every time.
"Of course, being careful is important, but this is way too much. You’re not sick, and staying in bed all day accomplishes nothing. You’ll just gain weight if you don’t move," one of them said.
They treated him as if he were suffering from a serious illness and even Qiong Xing felt irritated.
He scolded Leander when he tried to follow him even to the bathroom.
"You’re hardly eating enough to gain weight. And saying stuff like that is useless, if something happens, it’ll be too late. You may have free time, but the baby in your belly, this is important for them..."
"Yes, of course, you shouldn’t overdo it. But from what I’ve heard, pregnant women should still move a little. Gentle exercise is good to make delivery easier." 𝒻𝓇𝑒𝘦𝘸𝑒𝒷𝓃ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝒸ℴ𝘮
Qiong Xing had never been married in his previous life and had never been pregnant, so he didn’t know much about it.
He had only asked women with children about what was best and it didn’t seem like staying still all day was optimal.
He wanted to move a d believing it would be better for both himself and the baby.
"That might be true... but—"
"I understand. I’ll take you outside."
"Joa!?"
"Really?"
Before Qiong Xing even realized it, Joa had appeared and was making the suggestion while everyone else was still arguing.
Leander glared at him as if telling him not to interfere, but Qiong Xing felt a rush of joy at finally being able to go outside and looked at Joa with relief.
"Alright. But only if you can keep a promise."
A promise?
Qiong Xing tilted his head feeling confused.
Joa sat down next to him and gently held both of his hands.
"No overdoing it... that part, I’ll give up. You don’t seem like you can keep that anyway."
Qiong Xing thought that was a little rude, but he didn’t say anything.
Finally, he could go outside and arguing here might ruin that chance.
"So, don’t leave my side under any circumstances. Don’t act on your own without asking me first. When you do anything, listen to my opinion. We’re sworn protectors and family. Listening to advice isn’t too much to ask, right?"
Qiong Xing could only nod.
Of course, if someone could give guidance and advice, it was better than going alone.
"Good. Then let’s go. How about picking some raspberries? It’s been a while. Cari would enjoy that too."
"That sounds good. Ah, but Cari just went down for a nap, so it’ll be just the two of us."
Cari wasn’t as clingy as before, but he had spent the day playing with friends and eating lunch.
Now he had collapsed into a deep nap.
With Leander returning to his usual work, Qiong Xing and Joa prepared to leave.
Joa immediately lifted him up and carried him out of the hideout as he ignoring Qiong Xing’s insistence that he could walk on his own.
Qiong Xing tried to protest by saying he wasn’t a toddler who needed to be carried, but Joa simply ignored him and keep walking on.
Qiong Xing realized that he had been building up more stress than he thought after he breathing in the outside air after such a long time.
"I’m happy that everyone is glad about the baby. I really am happy... but..."
He understood that everyone was worried about him.
He could feel it clearly.
Qiong Xing was only a human.
He didn’t have the strength of the beastmen and his body wasn’t as tough as the demons.
Everyone knew that and that was why they worried so much about him.
The day he woke up, he went to see Albe.
The moment Albe saw him, he burst into tears and started apologizing.
It shocked Qiong Xing.
Albe said he was sorry for not noticing sooner.
He said sorry for not being able to do anything and sorry for failing to protect him even though he had promised.
But the one who should have been apologizing was Qiong Xing himself.
"Well, yeah... being told to stay in your room and not move at all would be hard for anyone. If you’re suddenly told not to do things you used to do normally, of course it feels strange," Joa said calmly.
They were at the usual flower field.
This was the place Qiong Xing often came to with Joa.
