A Former Police Officer Who Died And Get A Second Life!-Chapter 62: Staying Together
Qiong Xing smiled and gently patted his head, praising him for being a good boy.
"Then, for such a good Cari, how about today we eat together, take a bath together, and sleep together tonight?"
Lately, Qiong Xing had been leaving meals entirely to Joa and had mostly been bathing with Leander and the others.
When he said they would do all of that together, Cari nodded happily.
"We’re really, truly sorry about our son!"
"We have teach our kid a lesson."
"We’ve decided not to let ours leave his room for a while!"
"It’s so embarrassing, honestly. Little Cari, we’re sorry too."
While still holding Cari in his arms, Qiong Xing headed toward the dining hall only to be met the instant he entered by a storm of apologies from the women.
In this hideout, there were no male and male pairs, so it must have seemed unusual to the children.
The parents, their faces pale after hearing their children shouting about how strange it was had apparently yelled that there was nothing strange about it and punished them into apologizing.
Mothers really were strong, no matter the world.
The children who had been scolded and hit still looked dissatisfied, but they all apologized properly.
"They made Cari’s favorite stew today. It looks delicious."
"......."
Perhaps his feelings hadn’t settled yet, because Cari remained silent.
Qiong Xing started to offer him a spoon, then stopped and handed him a piece of bread instead.
"?"
When Cari looked at him curiously, Qiong Xing said, "Watch closely," and dipped the bread into the bowl of stew before putting it into his mouth.
It wasn’t exactly good table manners, but hoping it would make him happy, Qiong Xing encouraged Cari to try it too.
Cari cautiously dipped the bread into the stew.
"...Mm! It’s delicious!"
"Right?"
Cari was happily stuffing his mouth, clearly enjoying the food.
Seeing this, Leander and Elias who were watching from nearby copied him and soon they were devouring their portions at an impressive speed, exclaiming that it was delicious as they finished everything.
The residents who are watching around them also began to imitate them and voices saying "It’s good!" and "So tasty!" could be heard here and there.
"Next time, shall we try making doria together?"
"Doria?"
"It’s a delicious way to eat stew."
" Please Make it!"
When it was suggested to Cari, who loved dairy products, his eyes sparkled brightly.
He had been told not to hold a kitchen knife, but that could be left to someone else.
Given his age, he hadn’t made it many times in his previous life, but he could only hope it would turn out well.
"I’m eating too!"
"Me too."
Qiong Xing nodded to Leander and Elias who said they wanted to eat as well and once everything was finished, he went to take a bath together with Cari.
"Cari, do you dislike having a mom who’s a man?"
"No. Cari’s mama is just mama."
Even though people must have said all sorts of things to him, Cari still called Qiong Xing "mama," and that made him unbearably adorable.
"Thank you, Cari. Then I’ll tell you one of my secrets."
"A secret?"
"That’s right. There were moms today whose kids said all kinds of things to you, right? But even among those moms, I love you the most. More than any other parent and child, I love you the most as your mama."
"Cari loves mama too!"
If anyone else were listening, they would probably say it was nothing more than lovestruck bragging or doting parental foolishness.
But Cari, who was happy just to know Mama’s secret shared between the two of them, had no way of knowing such things.
After that, they washed each other and got out of the bath, then climbed into bed together.
"Mom, you won’t leave Cari behind, right?"
Perhaps because he had once been abandoned by his real mother and because of the things his friends had said to him, Cari looked anxious as he asked. Qiong Xing pulled him into a tight embrace.
"I won’t leave you. I’ll stay with you until you grow up and tell me you don’t need Mama anymore."
"I won’t say that! Cari doesn’t not need Mama!"
"Then we’ll stay together forever."
"Yeah!"
Cari snuggled up to him happily and when Qiong Xing gently patted his back in a steady rhythm, Cari quickly fell asleep.
Things like this would surely happen again in the future.
For now, it was fine because they were living among beastmen, among people who understood Qiong Xing and the others.
But he didn’t know how it would be among humans.
There would surely be people who would hurl insults at them and calling them disgusting.
In his previous life, he had been afraid of that and had kept running away.
But now, everyone was here.
Leander, Elias, Cari, Mayo.
Everyone told him that they loved him.
So he wouldn’t run away.
He didn’t want to run away.
For the sake of the people who said they loved him.
Just like Cari, who had tried to protect him no matter what was said.
For the sake of the people he loved, Qiong Xing decided that he would live on.
Several days had passed since the day Cari got into a fight with his friends.
It seemed they still hadn’t made up yet, but Cari was cheerfully trotting around Joa and sticking close to him.
Joa, too, must have found Cari adorable, because he showed no sign of annoyance.
In fact, he had stopped doing anything reckless because he’s worried that if he did something dangerous Cari might try to imitate him.
In that sense, it was all thanks to Cari.
Perhaps Cari knew that children usually didn’t get too close to Joa since he’s the boss of this hideout, or perhaps he simply enjoyed being by Joa’s side.
Either way, currently his Cari was like a chick following its parent bird and it soothed the adults who watched him.
