A Heaven-sent Sweet Child Falls Asking for Hugs-Chapter 135: Let Her See Your Son
After all, they had grown up together. Madam Ford was so desperate for a grandson she’d gone mad, spreading rumors everywhere that her son had a hidden ailment. But Justin Landon didn’t think so. He knew perfectly well there was nothing wrong with Jasper Ford.
As for why he hadn’t made any real progress with Wanda Quincy after all these years, it must be because he wasn’t interested in her. He was only keeping her around to take responsibility for that one night.
Justin Landon felt that Jasper Ford was probably searching for a certain ’feeling’.
"That little assistant... she couldn’t be the ’feeling’ you’re looking for, could she?" he asked, a half-smile on his face. The casual curve of his lips held an easily discernible tease.
Jasper Ford warned him, "Don’t make things up."
"Hitting a nerve?" Justin Landon roared with laughter. He leaned back against the sofa, lacing his hands behind his head. "We’ve known each other for so long, and this is the first time I’ve ever seen you get angry over a woman. Looks like this little assistant has some skills after all."
"Are you done talking?" Jasper Ford walked over, his long fingers pressing the switch on the coffee table to boil a kettle of water.
Justin Landon narrowed his eyes. "You’re not boiling that water to scald me, are you?"
"Hah." Jasper Ford let out a soft chuckle. His innate arrogance seemed to say, ’You’re not worthy.’
Justin Landon’s mood soured. He sat up. "Speaking of which, when is our project going to launch?"
"In two months." The water boiled, and Jasper Ford steeped a pot of tea.
Justin Landon said, displeased, "A month ago you told me two months, and now it’s two months again. Looks like the start date is nowhere in sight. Making money with you is exhausting."
Done with his complaints, Justin Landon couldn’t help but start looking around Jasper Ford’s office. Something had felt off ever since he walked in, but the decor, furniture, and all the other items were exactly the same as before. For a moment, Justin couldn’t pinpoint what was wrong, so he glanced left and right. Suddenly, his gaze froze!
Justin Landon’s eyes flew wide in shock. He stared in disbelief at the small head peeking out from the crack in the door and shot up from the sofa with a SWISH.
Jasper Ford raised an eyebrow, puzzled.
Justin Landon pointed at the door to the lounge. "Who is that kid!"
Beanie, who had been woken up by their conversation, stood at the door looking bewildered. He blinked his large, clear, innocent eyes, meeting Justin Landon’s gaze. It was their first time meeting, and Beanie was very curious too, but he was much calmer, simply blinking his big eyes as he watched.
Justin Landon, however, seemed to have swallowed a firecracker and rushed toward Beanie.
Jasper Ford, not knowing what had gotten into him, put down the kettle and followed.
He’d thought Justin Landon was going to do something to Beanie, but instead, he just circled the boy again and again, staring him up and down for a long, long time. Then, with a SMACK, he slapped his own thigh.
"The resemblance!"
"It’s uncanny!"
"He’s like he was carved from the same mold! A perfect copy!"
Justin Landon’s voice was filled with shock.
"What resemblance?" The unconcerned Jasper Ford walked over, his large hand gently ruffling Beanie’s little head. "How did you wake up so soon? Were you only asleep for a few minutes?"
Beanie said, "You guys were talking really loud."
His soft, childish voice was incredibly pleasant to hear.
Jasper Ford shot a displeased glare at Justin Landon and said sharply, "Keep your voice down."
He then tried to call Beanie back into the lounge, wanting him to go back to sleep.
But Beanie couldn’t fall back asleep, so Jasper Ford had no choice but to let him come out for a snack.
Justin Landon finally realized why he felt Jasper Ford’s office was off. Whenever he had visited before, there was never a single snack in Jasper’s office. This time, it was full of food!
No wonder!
"Jasper, is this your biological son?" Finally, Justin Landon couldn’t resist asking.
Beanie was just about to open a box of cake when he heard Justin Landon’s words. He couldn’t help but look up. "Mister, do you think we look alike?"
Good heavens, that proud little look in his eyes was the spitting image of Jasper Ford!
Justin Landon nodded vigorously. "You do! The resemblance is uncanny!"
Beanie pouted unhappily. "But I don’t think we look alike at all."
"Kiddo, your eyes aren’t working right." Justin Landon leaned in, studying Beanie intently.
Worried the little guy would be too scared to eat, Jasper Ford warned him, "Look all you want, but don’t go too far."
"Who’s the one going too far? You tell me who’s going too far! Secretly having a kid this big and not saying a word to your buddies... you’re really good at keeping secrets!"
Jasper Ford answered impatiently, "He’s not my son."
"How could he not be your son? He looks so much like you! If he’s really not, I’ll chop my hand off right here and now!" Justin Landon declared with heroic bravado.
Beanie couldn’t help but laugh, the corners of his eyes crinkling into two cute crescents. "Mister, I’m really not. I have a daddy."
"Hmm?" Justin Landon was confused.
Beanie said, "Even though my daddy and I don’t look alike at all, we’re definitely related by blood. Uncle Ford and I don’t have any blood relationship."
"Impossible!" Justin Landon retorted with absolute certainty.
How could the little guy look so much like Jasper Ford and not be related by blood?
Jasper Ford wasn’t the type to be this nice to just anyone. As far as Justin Landon could recall, Jasper never paid any attention to other people’s children, let alone turn his own office into a mess for a stranger’s kid!
Besides, if Justin Landon remembered correctly, the little guy had just walked out of Jasper Ford’s private lounge!
Not only had he turned the office of the meticulous Jasper Ford into a small cafeteria, but he had also slept in the bed of the notoriously neat-freakish Jasper Ford.
Who but a biological son could have such power?
Anyway, no matter how much Jasper Ford denied it, Justin Landon felt there was more to the story.
Beanie said, "If you don’t believe me, Mister, then don’t."
The little guy took out the cakes Vivian Quincy had bought for him that morning from the bag, one by one. He gave one portion to Jasper Ford and another to Justin Landon.
Jasper Ford had no interest in sweets. "I’m not having any. You eat it."
"Okay." The little guy sat down obediently and blinked his beautiful big eyes at Justin Landon. "Mister, you should eat yours quickly too. It won’t taste as good if you let it sit."
"I’m not hungry, you have more," Justin Landon said with a smile, sitting down across from Beanie, the look of inquiry in his eyes deepening.
Beanie suddenly lost his appetite. His little cheeks turned cold as he reminded him very seriously, "Even though you’re Uncle Ford’s good friend, I feel I must remind you that it’s very rude to stare at someone while they’re eating."
"Hahaha! Jasper, this little guy’s tone is exactly like yours, and you still say he’s not your son!" Not only was Justin Landon not angry, but he was so amused he burst out laughing. He remembered staring at Jasper Ford just like that once when they were kids, and Jasper had scolded him in the exact same way.
Feeling like he’d discovered a treasure, Justin Landon said with a grin, "Nope, I have to call Kimberly and have her come take a look."
"What are you calling her over for?" Hearing Kimberly Shaw’s name, Jasper Ford was clearly somewhat displeased.
Justin Landon said, "To see your precious son, of course! He’s so cute, she’ll definitely throw a fit. By the way, who’s the kid’s mom? Bring her out so we can meet."
He had already jumped to conclusions based on his own ideas and automatically classified Beanie as Jasper Ford’s son.
But Jasper Ford didn’t admit it. He said very seriously, "If you’ve had your fun, then shut up. Don’t let outsiders hear. It’s not good for the child."
He was extremely serious, and his dark, deep eyes were filled with a warning.
Justin Landon’s laughter slowly died on his lips.
