A Heaven-sent Sweet Child Falls Asking for Hugs-Chapter 17: How Could a Pheasant Become a Phoenix
Within the vast Imperium Group, the secretarial department alone employed dozens of people. They all watched Wanda Quincy, who was a weeping mess, each with their own thoughts.
From the look of things, Jasper Ford seemed like the very picture of a man who would love and leave a woman.
Jasper Ford looked down coldly at Wanda Quincy, who was sobbing uncontrollably on the floor, and commanded in a low voice, "Downstairs. I’ll take you to the hospital."
His words made the onlookers’ eyes light up.
Wanda Quincy hadn’t expected Jasper Ford to take her himself. The pain in her palm was nothing compared to the elation in her heart. She almost laughed out loud, but she caught herself, lowered her head, and followed him with a pitiful look.
Behind her, gasps of astonishment came from the secretarial department. "Oh my god, the CEO is personally taking Wanda Quincy to the hospital! When did he get so thoughtful?"
"Looks like the CEO has forgiven Wanda Quincy. We’d better be more polite to the CEO’s future wife from now on..."
The murmurs were quiet, but Wanda Quincy heard every word clearly. She knew she had won this gamble; at least now, Jasper Ford had no reason to shake her off!
This was the first time Wanda Quincy had ever ridden in Jasper Ford’s car, and in the passenger seat no less. Her heart pounded in her chest. She carefully stole a glance at Jasper Ford. He was so handsome; just his side profile was enough to make her swoon.
From the moment they entered the hospital until her wound was treated, people couldn’t help but sneak glances at Jasper Ford. This immensely satisfied Wanda Quincy’s vanity. She walked naturally by his side, as if she were the lady of the manor, staking her claim on him in front of all the women who coveted him.
After her wound was treated, Wanda Quincy tried to take Jasper Ford’s hand. "Can you drive me back to the company?"
The man shot her a terrifying glare, and Wanda Quincy instantly recoiled.
Jasper Ford said nothing.
Wanda Quincy continued, undeterred, "Because the engagement was canceled, several of my business partners have stopped contacting me. I want to host a banquet this weekend and invite them all. Can you come?"
She gazed at Jasper Ford expectantly, but after a long wait with no reply, she looked as if she was about to burst into tears. "If you don’t come, they’ll laugh at me."
"We’ll see," Jasper Ford said as the car stopped outside the main entrance of Imperium Group. "Your car is over there. Drive yourself back to the office."
Wanda Quincy knew to quit while she was ahead. She obediently got out of the car. "Drive safe!"
The man coldly rolled up the window and drove away.
"Oh my god, Wanda Quincy just got out of the CEO’s passenger seat! I was right!"
"They’ve definitely gotten back together!"
"So the CEO really does prefer Wanda Quincy after all. I guess I don’t have a chance. I’m heartbroken."
The hearts of the young women in the lobby who saw Wanda Quincy step out of the passenger seat practically shattered with jealousy. A few of them, in disbelief, even ran outside to get a look at Jasper Ford’s license plate.
Wanda Quincy stood brazenly in front of the Imperium Group’s main entrance, wishing everyone would flock to see her. Not only that, but she also sent a voice message to her friends’ group chat: "Anyone free this weekend? Come hang out at my place."
Her one sentence immediately brought the lurkers out of the woodwork. "President Quincy got dumped and she’s still in the mood for a party? She’s got some nerve."
Another person added, "She probably wants to drown her sorrows."
Seeing these replies, Wanda Quincy sneered. "I’ve already made up with Jasper Ford. You’d all better watch your tone when you’re speaking to the Ford Family’s Young Madam!"
"What? You two made up?" Wanda’s words sent the group chat into an uproar. She savored their expressions of disbelief and jealousy, smugly closing her phone and driving off.
After the scene Wanda Quincy made, everyone in the company knew.
Her supervisor had been watching Vivian Quincy’s every move. Seeing her acting as if nothing was wrong, she couldn’t help but ask, "Did you hear that the CEO and Wanda Quincy got back together?"
"They did?" Vivian Quincy asked, surprised.
The supervisor patted her on the shoulder comfortingly. "Don’t be too sad. They have a six-year history, after all. It was inevitable they’d get back together."
"Why would I be sad? I’m not sad at all." Vivian Quincy tilted her head, completely baffled. She didn’t quite understand what her supervisor meant.
The supervisor sighed helplessly. "Our CEO is very charming. There are more women in this company who admire him than you can count, myself included when I first started here. But men like that, so high above the rest of us, they’re ultimately not our kind. You shouldn’t be too upset. If you want to cry, just let it all out."
Vivian Quincy finally understood. ’The supervisor thinks I have something going on with Jasper Ford!’ She had already explained it so many times. Why wouldn’t these people believe her?
"I still have work to do, and I need to leave early today!" Vivian Quincy said with a serious expression.
"I know you’re in a bad mood, so just take the day off. Go home, compose yourself, and come back to work tomorrow. And don’t be sad for too long." The supervisor nodded, wearing the expression of someone who had been through it all before.
Everyone in her department thought Vivian Quincy had been dumped, and they couldn’t help but feel smug about it.
They had thought Vivian Quincy might be able to use her good looks to get a leg up with the CEO, but it seemed they were wrong...
A barnyard chicken is still a barnyard chicken; how could it ever become a phoenix?
An employee who couldn’t stand Vivian Quincy was secretly mocking her when, out of the corner of her eye, she noticed an incredibly handsome man standing at the doorway.
He was dressed head to toe in designer brands, and his watch alone was a Rolex worth millions. His mere presence at the doorway was dazzling. The man was a walking money bag!
’Someone like that must have an impressive background,’ they thought. ’What’s he doing in our shabby little department?’
Everyone was astonished, but what shocked them even more was that this handsome man, dripping with designer labels and reeking of wealth, was walking straight toward Vivian Quincy!
"Vivian, are you off work yet?" The man’s voice was warm, pleasant, and magnetic.
The group of women who had just been mocking Vivian Quincy were stunned, their eyes wide in disbelief.
"What are you doing here?" Vivian Quincy asked Hayden Kaye in a low voice, not noticing everyone else’s stares.
Hayden Kaye said, "My office isn’t far from here, and I happened to be free. It’s about time for you to get off, isn’t it? Let me take you out to eat."
A sunny smile graced his handsome face, and their coworkers in the same department couldn’t help but sneak glances at him.
"Is that Vivian Quincy’s boyfriend? Oh my god, he’s so young and handsome."
"Vivian, when did you get such an amazing boyfriend? How come you never mentioned him before?" one of them couldn’t resist asking, her tone laced with jealousy.
Vivian Quincy tried to explain, "You’ve misunderstood, he’s not..."
"There’s no misunderstanding. Hello, everyone. My name is Hayden Kaye, and I’m Vivian Quincy’s boyfriend. It’s a pleasure to meet you all." Hayden Kaye didn’t wait for Vivian to finish her explanation, directly announcing his status to everyone.
Vivian Quincy was stunned. "You...?"
"Alright, let’s go eat." Hayden Kaye smiled at everyone, then assertively pulled Vivian Quincy outside.
After his talk with his Ninth Uncle, Hayden Kaye felt more strongly than ever that he couldn’t just sit back and wait. To win Vivian Quincy back, he had to take the initiative. She had just arrived in Crestfall and just started a new job. This was when she was at her most sensitive and vulnerable, most in need of companionship—and Hayden Kaye would be there for her!
And Hayden Kaye had also decided. "From today on, I’m in charge of your lunches."
"Did you not hear what I said to you yesterday?" Vivian Quincy couldn’t help but repeat.
Hayden Kaye said, "I heard you loud and clear. But my Ninth Uncle said that if you like someone, you should go after them. There’s no way I’m giving up on us. Vivian, I’ll make you see that I’m a much better match for you than President King!"
Although he had no idea why Vivian Quincy would fall for an old geezer like Jeremy King, Hayden Kaye was convinced that he was in no way inferior to him!
’Being the esteemed Young Madam of the Kaye Family has to be better than being some old man’s mistress, right?’
’Vivian Quincy was just too young. One day, she would realize that he was the perfect man for her.’
