A Heaven-sent Sweet Child Falls Asking for Hugs-Chapter 22: Becoming the Great Demon King’s Assistant
Fortunately, Jasper Ford didn’t take things any further. He straightened his slightly disheveled clothes as if nothing had happened and left.
Vivian Quincy stood there, gasping for a long while before she came to her senses. She quickly gathered her things and bolted, terrified that Jasper Ford would come back for her.
When she got home, the property manager was waiting at her door. That’s how Vivian Quincy found out Hayden Kaye had been looking for her. After sending Hayden a text to let him know she was safe, Vivian collapsed onto the sofa. Her mind was filled with images of Jasper Ford. Agitated, she messily ruffled her hair and hugged a throw pillow, trying to sleep on the couch.
In a daze, she heard someone banging on the door. Vivian dragged herself up to answer it.
"Vivian, where have you been?" Hayden Kaye rushed in and grabbed Vivian’s shoulders.
Vivian rubbed her eyes, bewildered. "Didn’t I tell you I’m fine? Why are you here?"
"How could I relax without seeing you in person? Tell me, where were you just now? I looked everywhere for you and couldn’t find you. Are you hurt?" Hayden Kaye frantically looked her up and down.
Vivian pushed him away awkwardly. "I’m fine. You should go home."
"But I clearly heard you scream on the phone! How can you be fine!" Hayden Kaye was convinced Vivian was hiding something from him and demanded she look him in the eyes and say it again.
Vivian turned her face away and pushed Hayden Kaye forcefully. "I was working overtime at the company earlier. I was upset because I had so much to do, so I called you to vent. After yelling a couple of times, I felt embarrassed and hung up. I’m really fine."
"But didn’t you already get off work? Why would you go back to the office?" He had never heard of anyone having to go back to the warehouse to work overtime after their shift had ended.
Vivian, struggling to keep her story straight, was afraid she’d slip up if she said any more. She didn’t want anyone to know she had been assaulted, especially not her ex-boyfriend. ’How humiliating!’
She feigned composure. "I was working overtime. Isn’t that normal? Just go, I need to sleep. I have work tomorrow."
Not caring whether Hayden Kaye was willing or not, Vivian shoved him out the door.
After a few minutes of knocking, Hayden Kaye left. Vivian breathed a sigh of relief. She picked up her phone, intending to video call Beanie Quincy, but a text message came in.
"Let me see you with him again, and you’re dead."
The sender was an unknown number. Although there was no contact name, Vivian had a sinking feeling she knew who sent it.
She nervously bit her lip. Clinging to a sliver of hope, she carefully texted back, "Who is this?"
"The man who touched you," the unknown number replied a few minutes later.
Vivian screamed at the ceiling in a fit of rage. "How can someone like that exist!"
"Vivian, who are you talking about?" Hayden Kaye’s voice came from outside the door.
Vivian!!!
Annoyed, she snapped, "Why are you still here?"
"I..." Hayden started, but then trailed off.
Vivian strode to the front door and deadbolted it. "Don’t come bothering me anymore!"
There was no sound from outside. Vivian viciously threw her phone onto the bed, grabbed her pajamas, and went into the bathroom to shower. ’I really don’t want to see that bastard Jasper Ford ever again! I’m so pissed!’
’I should quit!’
’I have to quit.’
Vivian turned on the hot water and rinsed herself from head to toe, which finally cleared her head a bit. After changing, she was about to call Jasper Ford to have a serious talk about her resignation when she saw three unread text messages.
The first: Leave your current boyfriend. Refuse, and die.
The second: Think about quitting, and die.
The third: Come to work tomorrow. Wear less.
Vivian stared blankly at her phone screen, thinking she must be hallucinating. She slapped her cheeks hard and looked at her phone again for a few seconds. And then she wanted to cry.
She never could have imagined that the esteemed CEO of Imperium Group, the firstborn son of the Ford Family, the high and mighty Crown Prince who could practically command the wind and rain in Crestfall, would stoop so low as to bully a minor employee like her!
Lying on her bed and hugging her pillow tightly, she just wanted to cry for a while.
Vivian didn’t sleep a wink all night. When it was almost time for work, she dug out her thickest pair of jeans. ’There’s no way I’m listening to Jasper Ford. Who knows what that animal wants, telling me to wear less!’
Vivian bundled herself up in layers and even put on her ugliest pair of black glasses before heading to Imperium Group.
Caden Chandler was already waiting at the warehouse entrance, seemingly having guessed that Vivian wouldn’t surrender so easily. He smiled and said, "Miss Quincy, the CEO asked me to show you the way."
"Can I keep working in the warehouse? I enjoy being a porter for Mother Nature," Vivian asked cautiously.
Caden Chandler smiled. "I’m afraid not."
Vivian let out a disappointed "Oh" and obediently followed Caden Chandler upstairs.
On the way, many people glanced over, though she couldn’t hear what they were saying. When they reached the secretarial department, Caden Chandler announced, "Everyone, please pause your work for a moment. I’d like to introduce you to our newly promoted assistant to the CEO, Vivian Quincy. From now on, all documents for the CEO should be handed over to her."
Hearing she was the CEO’s assistant, a buzz went through the entire secretarial department, and all eyes turned to Vivian.
The CEO had several assistants, but they were all men. Everyone was shocked that a female assistant had suddenly appeared. They had expected some powerful and beautiful figure, but when they looked up, they were sorely disappointed.
’Was this country bumpkin, wearing thick jeans and two heavy jackets in the middle of summer, really the CEO’s new assistant?’
The head secretary couldn’t help but frown. "Chandler, is this... for real?"
Her eyes were clearly filled with disbelief.
It wasn’t just the head secretary; everyone was looking at her the same way.
’The CEO’s new assistant is such a hick! Who wears thick jeans and multiple jackets in the middle of summer? She doesn’t look like she’s here to work, she looks like she’s here to rob the place! Is the CEO blind? How could he pick someone like her?’
Even Caden Chandler was a bit baffled by Vivian’s choice of attire. In his memory, Vivian’s fashion sense was actually quite good. He had seen her dressed normally just a few days ago, so why today...
Caden cleared his throat to hide his own awkwardness. "Alright, that’s the introduction. Everyone can get back to work." With that, Caden led Vivian to the desk closest to the CEO’s office and said, "Starting today, this will be your desk. Someone will be over shortly to hand off your duties. The CEO has a meeting, and I need to prepare his materials, so get yourself familiar with the environment for now."
And with that, Caden Chandler left.
Left alone, Vivian could feel countless scorching gazes on her. It was only then that she realized everyone who worked here wore very little! The women were all in professional short skirts, without any stockings, and short-sleeved tops. Even the men were dressed in light clothing!
In contrast, she stood out like a sore thumb among all the elites in their professional attire—a very large, very sore thumb. Suddenly, she understood the true meaning behind Jasper Ford’s text last night: "Wear less."
