A Heaven-sent Sweet Child Falls Asking for Hugs-Chapter 67: She Snatched Beanie Away
Hayden Kaye was clearly angry. He said sternly, "I came all this way to see you, and you won’t even go out to eat with me?"
"I don’t want to." Vivian Quincy nodded, her reply blunt.
Hayden Kaye was choked with anger. He gritted his teeth. "Vivian Quincy, I’ll be back for you tomorrow!"
And with that, he stormed off in a huff.
The people in the office who were on their lunch break had all woken up. They couldn’t help but steal a few glances at the two of them. A colleague sitting closest to Vivian Quincy said, "Quincy, that’s Master Kaye. You just rejected him like that?"
"What else could I do? We’re not allowed to go out during work hours. I can’t break the CEO’s rules, can I?" Vivian Quincy forced a smile.
The colleague laughed. "The CEO already said you could go out, so what are you worried about? Plus, Master Kaye is the CEO’s own nephew. If you two get together, you’ll be his nephew’s wife! He’d be ecstatic. Why would he ever blame you?"
"’Ecstatic?’" An image of Jasper Ford’s face involuntarily surfaced in Vivian Quincy’s mind.
The colleague nodded and said with a smile, "Of course! The CEO might be so happy that he’ll even give you a raise to keep you around."
"Yates, don’t talk nonsense," another colleague couldn’t help but tease. "If Quincy really becomes the Young Madam of the Kaye family, why would she still come to work? She’d be at home enjoying a life of leisure, for sure."
Vivian Quincy felt a chill run down her spine, as if a sinister cold was radiating from behind her. She hastily cut them off. "That’s enough, you two. You’re making things up."
"Don’t be shy. We’re all on your side here. We’re just trying to help you strategize. For a girl, marrying well is more important than being capable."
"Right, exactly. Marrying well is what really matters. It really pays to be young and beautiful. You can easily find a rich young master. As for us, we can only be envious and jealous."
The two of them became increasingly animated as they spoke.
Vivian Quincy felt the chill emanating from behind her was intense enough to kill. "I’m not going to banter with you two anymore," she said. "I’m going to lunch."
As she passed Jasper Ford’s office, she deliberately kept her head down. She could distinctly feel his eyes on her, and it was terrifying...
Vivian Quincy walked very fast, almost running. By the time she finally got to the employee cafeteria, she had no appetite. She ate a little something to fill her stomach, grabbed a bottle of plain milk, and started walking back to the office area while drinking it.
However, as Vivian Quincy was passing a blind corner in the hallway, she was grabbed!
A man’s large, strong hand gripped her wrist tightly, yanking her slender, frail body into the corner.
Vivian Quincy was terrified. She was about to scream out of reflex when a large hand clamped over her mouth. She frantically looked up. ’The CEO?’
Vivian Quincy froze. ’Why on earth would the CEO stop me like this?’
"Not happy you can’t go on a date?" The man leaned in close to her ear. His low voice was devilishly charming, but laced with endless danger.
Vivian Quincy quickly shook her head, making a few muffled sounds. When Jasper Ford released his hand, he heard her say in a low voice, "I’m not."
"You think I’d believe you?" Jasper Ford sneered.
Vivian Quincy said earnestly, "Since I’m here at the company, I work for the CEO. You said employees aren’t allowed to leave for personal reasons, so I definitely wouldn’t."
"If I didn’t have that rule, you’d have run off with him long ago, wouldn’t you?" Jasper Ford chuckled, but there was no humor in it.
His killing intent was heavy.
Vivian Quincy shook her head more vigorously, her voice trembling uncontrollably. "Absolutely not! My loyalty to you, Mr. CEO, is unwavering. Even if there were no rule, I wouldn’t go on a date with Hayden Kaye. For every day I work at this company, I am your subordinate. If you tell me to go east, I’ll go east. I will follow your every order without question!"
It was hard to say which of her words pleased Jasper Ford, but the fury in his eyes slowly subsided, allowing the terrified Vivian Quincy to breathe a sigh of relief.
But just as Vivian Quincy started to relax, the man’s hand covered her neck, and she instantly went back on high alert.
Jasper Ford’s cool hand stroked Vivian Quincy’s elegant neck, the touch light and intermittent. He smiled, a bloodthirsty and cruel expression on his face. "It would be a real shame to snap such a lovely neck. Vivian Quincy, if you want to die, just keep testing my limits. I promise you, it will be a miserable death."
Vivian Quincy felt like crying but couldn’t shed a tear. ’I don’t want to die in the slightest!’
She shook her head and stammered, "I’ll keep my distance from Hayden Kaye. I promise!"
"If you can’t," Jasper Ford said casually, "I’ll just have to sew your mouth shut."
Vivian Quincy nodded vigorously. "Okay."
Her wide, terrified eyes stared unblinkingly, reflecting her mortal fear.
The glittering light in her eyes was surprisingly captivating...
Jasper Ford didn’t like Vivian Quincy’s eyes. ’They’re too beautiful, just like a vixen’s!’ A strange, unfamiliar feeling stirred inside him. He released his grip on her neck and, with a surprisingly casual motion, snatched the bottle of milk from her trembling hand. Then he walked off with it.
Vivian Quincy stood frozen, her jaw practically on the floor. ’The great CEO of Imperium Group is stealing food from a mere assistant? Once, I could understand, but is he getting addicted to this?’p>
Furious, Vivian Quincy stomped her foot right where she stood.
Her phone kept vibrating, but Vivian Quincy didn’t even notice. She only saw the second call coming in. It was Anna. She picked up. "What’s wrong?"
"Vivian, help!" Anna’s desperate voice came through the phone.
The color drained from Vivian Quincy’s face. "What’s going on? What happened?"
"I just picked up Beanie from the Ford Family’s house, and as soon as I got home, Wanda Quincy cornered me. She brought a lot of people and they’re banging on the door outside. I’m afraid she’ll take Beanie." Anna’s voice was thick with tears; she had clearly been crying.
Vivian Quincy was so shocked she almost dropped her phone. "Just hold on, I’m on my way back now."
"Hurry! I can’t hold them off much longer! They’re trying to pry the door open!" Anna sobbed.
Forgetting everything else, Vivian Quincy clutched her phone and sprinted toward the elevators.
Jasper Ford, who had just stolen her milk, expected Vivian to charge after him and start a fight. But when he turned, he saw her stepping into an elevator. She was leaving!
’It’s the lunch break. She should be resting in the office. Where is she going?’
"Stop," Jasper Ford called out, his voice ice-cold.
Vivian Quincy had no time to deal with Jasper Ford. She quickly hit the "close door" button and jabbed the one for the 1st floor.
Jasper Ford strode over, but the elevator had already started its descent. He glanced at the floor indicator, then entered his private CEO elevator and headed for the first floor.
"Where’s Vivian Quincy?" Jasper Ford demanded sharply.
The receptionist hurried over, looking flustered. "Sir, she just went out."
"Why did you let her leave?" Jasper Ford’s eyes were piercing.
The receptionist said, "We tried to, but she was running incredibly fast. We couldn’t stop her."
"Where did she go?" Jasper Ford demanded.
The receptionist thought for a moment. "I think she went home. Yes, that’s right. She said there was an emergency at her house and she had to get back right away."
Jasper Ford’s expression darkened. ’She lives alone in a rented apartment. What kind of emergency could she have? Maybe I should go check it out?’
