A Heaven-sent Sweet Child Falls Asking for Hugs-Chapter 79: My Heart Is With You
Following Caden Chandler out of the elevator, she walked toward Jasper Ford’s office. Passing through the secretarial department, she attracted a lot of curious glances.
"Why is Vivian Quincy back? And she’s following Caden Chandler. What is she trying to do?"
"Don’t tell me she’s going to beg the president for forgiveness?"
"I heard she was assigned to a menial position, doing the work of four people by herself. It’s pretty miserable. But who told her to offend the president before? Realizing she needs to apologize now is a little too late."
Vivian Quincy listened to their hushed conversation as she walked, feeling nothing. After she entered the president’s office, Jasper Ford had Caden Chandler close the door.
In the vast office, only she and Jasper Ford remained.
Vivian Quincy didn’t know what to say, so she simply asked, "President Ford, did you need to see me about something?"
Jasper Ford didn’t answer. His deep gaze swept over the girl’s hands, a flicker of surprise in his eyes. "Do you still dare to defy me?"
"I haven’t defied you, President Ford." Vivian Quincy lowered her head, looking quite humble, but her tone held no hint of admission of fault. In fact, she sounded dead serious!
Jasper Ford, who had originally planned to forgive Vivian Quincy if she just admitted her mistake, suddenly grew angry. He sneered, "It seems you’ve been doing quite well in the warehouse these past few days?"
"Thanks to you, President Ford, everything is just fine." Vivian Quincy’s voice was laced with sarcasm, the dissatisfaction in her words easy to detect.
Jasper Ford’s lips curved. "Still have the energy to talk back. It seems life really has been treating you well."
Hearing this, Vivian Quincy had the urge to slap Jasper Ford twice across the face. ’Can’t he see that my hands are about to fall off? Is there a single trace on me that suggests I’m doing well?’
’Jasper Ford is such a petty man,’ Vivian Quincy thought. ’The great president of the mighty Imperium Group, actually picking a fight with a low-level employee!’
Vivian Quincy was displeased but didn’t let it show on her face. Instead, she said calmly, "If there’s nothing else, President Ford, may I leave? I still have a lot of work I haven’t finished. If I don’t go back now, I won’t be able to get it all done."
"Do you enjoy working a menial job that much?" Jasper Ford narrowed his eyes dangerously. "Or are you deliberately playing hard to get, hoping I’ll think more highly of you?"
Vivian Quincy almost laughed. ’Why would I want Jasper Ford to think more highly of me? It’s not like he’d give me money or sleep with me. Instead, he’d just torture me even more relentlessly. I’m not that self-destructive.’ All she wanted was a stable job, and that was it.
"Not at all," she denied firmly.
Jasper Ford stood up and walked over to Vivian Quincy. He gripped her chin with his large hand, his breath hot as he spoke, "Not returning to my side is the same as losing your chance to leave."
The girl’s slender figure stiffened abruptly, her eyes filled with shock.
A half-smile played on Jasper Ford’s lips. "I know everything. So, you should think carefully: be my assistant, or rot in that menial position."
"What are you talking about, President Ford? I don’t understand," Vivian Quincy asked, feigning confusion.
Jasper Ford said, "Jeremy King has approached you."
Her face turned deathly pale.
Jasper Ford continued, "He also made some requests of you. As for the reward, he promised you a huge sum of money, enough to pay off your breach of contract penalty, correct?"
His voice was mellow and pleasant, very alluring, but also very dangerous!
’Those were the exact words Jeremy King said to me. How could Jasper Ford possibly know?’ She stared with wide, bewildered eyes.
Jasper Ford chuckled lightly. "I know all about what happened between you two."
Vivian Quincy thought back carefully. ’When I spoke with Jeremy King, there was no one else around except for the driver and his two subordinates. How could Jasper Ford know something so secret? Could it be... Jeremy King has a mole on his team?’
’No, it can’t be such a coincidence. I shouldn’t scare myself.’
Vivian Quincy denied it resolutely. "I don’t know what you’re talking about, President Ford." 𝒻𝘳ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝒷𝘯ℴ𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝑐ℴ𝑚
A trace of ice crossed the man’s resolute face. His features were exquisitely perfect, beautiful even, but his star-like, captivating eyes were deep, and the cold glint within them was inexplicably terrifying.
Vivian Quincy took a deep breath. Although Jasper Ford hadn’t said a word, she was undoubtedly intimidated by the aura erupting from him. She pressed her lips together nervously, not even realizing that she was trembling.
"Ngh..." A sharp pain shot through her chin, and Vivian Quincy grunted in pain.
She watched as the incredibly cold man nonchalantly pulled open a drawer and took something out. When Vivian Quincy saw it clearly, her legs went so weak she almost collapsed to the floor. She could only grip the corner of the desk tightly to hold herself up...
It was a black handgun!
’How could Jasper Ford have something like this?’
Vivian Quincy had no time to think. She watched with her own eyes as Jasper Ford slowly detached the magazine, took out all the bullets, set one aside, and put the rest back into the drawer. Then, he inserted that single remaining bullet into the magazine and loaded it...
Vivian Quincy’s breathing stopped. Her lips turned pale as she asked nervously, "Is that... real?"
"Why don’t you find out?" Jasper Ford’s smile was wicked.
Every hair on Vivian Quincy’s body stood on end. ’Find out? How? With my head? I still want to live! How could I do that?!’
She had watched with her own eyes as Jasper Ford took the bullets out one by one. The bullets looked heavy; they must be real. In any case, they definitely didn’t look fake.
"I won’t!" she refused immediately without a second thought.
Jasper Ford chuckled lightly, pressing the gun in his hand to Vivian Quincy’s temple. "Do you want to know the consequences of betraying me?"
"No, not at all!" Vivian Quincy’s voice trembled, on the verge of tears. She was scared to death by Jasper Ford. She didn’t want to know at all!
"Hm?" The man grunted, clearly displeased.
Vivian Quincy didn’t know what she had said to displease Jasper Ford. She quickly replayed her last words in her mind and hastily corrected herself: "I will never betray you, President Ford, not even in death! It doesn’t matter how much money he offers me. I am yours in life and in death! Even if I die, I would never help Jeremy King harm you."
A hint of amusement suddenly appeared on the man’s icy face. He was amused by something Vivian Quincy had said. Jasper Ford lowered the gun from her head and placed it on the desk. His cold hand gently tipped up the girl’s delicate face as he said with a smile, "At least you know your place."
"I do, I know my place very well!" Her survival instincts kicking into high gear, Vivian Quincy nodded vigorously. Her peripheral vision, however, remained fixed on the handgun, terrified that Jasper Ford might suddenly have a change of heart and blow her brains out.
’I still have a child to raise, and I still have to find my child’s father! I can’t die at the hands of this bastard!’
To save her own skin, Vivian Quincy confessed honestly, "Jeremy King did approach me. He told me to find a way to get back to your side, President Ford, and then help him get some data. He also said he’d give me a lot of money, but I didn’t agree."
"I’m not stupid. You’re so outstanding, so brilliant and powerful, President Ford. You’d definitely see what I was up to. If I really sided with an outsider, you would never let me go. That’s why I would never agree to Jeremy King’s offer, not even if it killed me! Even if I had verbally agreed, it would have just been a stalling tactic. My heart has always been with you, President Ford. It has never wavered!"
