A Heaven-sent Sweet Child Falls Asking for Hugs-Chapter 92: Anna Is Not His Mommy
The car slowly came to a stop outside the Ford Family’s home, and Jasper Ford strode into the house.
Hearing the sound, Beanie quickly got up and headed for the door. The people around him, thinking something was wrong, anxiously rushed toward the door with him. When they saw Jasper Ford, Beanie stopped, and so did everyone else.
The butler said with a smile, "Young Master, you’re back."
A few maids hurried forward to help Jasper Ford with his shoes and take his coat.
Seeing that Jasper Ford was alone, Beanie blinked his big eyes and asked, disappointed, "Ford, where’s your assistant?"
Jasper Ford said, "Caden Chandler has gone home for the day."
"Not him. The super-gorgeous fairy, Vivian Quincy." Beanie shook his head, craning his neck to look outside again.
Jasper Ford walked in with a smile, placed a whole bag of desserts on the table, and then scooped Beanie up from the floor with one arm. His voice was very gentle. "If she’s a fairy, then what am I?"
"You’re a mean uncle." Not seeing Vivian Quincy, Beanie grew unhappy. During the day, Miss Ford had promised him that his mommy would come along, so Beanie could have his mommy ask Ford and Miss Ford about his daddy.
’But why isn’t Mommy here?’
’Ford must have scared her off.’
’Hmph!’
"Not very old, but quite the temper." Jasper Ford chuckled and put Beanie down. His gaze fell on Anna, who was in the same room. His expression turned cold. "And you are?"
Anna said brazenly, "Hello, Mr. Ford. I’m Beanie’s Mom."
As she spoke, she extended her hand for a handshake with Jasper Ford.
But the man merely offered a polite smile and said, "I bought some snacks for Beanie. See if he likes them?"
"He’ll love them." Seeing that Jasper Ford didn’t seem to recognize her, Anna’s heart pounded nervously in her chest, and her voice sounded a bit unnatural.
Jasper Ford noticed. "Miss Sawyer, have we met somewhere before?"
"Have we? No, I don’t think so. This is my first time seeing you in person." Anna hastily shook her head and continued, "I heard from Beanie that Mr. Ford has a female assistant whom he’s very fond of. Why didn’t I see her come with you today?"
"She’s gone home for the day," Jasper Ford replied nonchalantly.
He gave Anna a meaningful, thoughtful look, said a few more words, and then went upstairs.
Seeing that Vivian Quincy wasn’t there, Anna, thinking of Beanie’s and her friend’s happiness, mustered her courage and said, "Mr. Ford, wait a moment. I’d like to ask you about something."
The man stopped his long-legged stride, turned back, and said coldly, "What is it?"
Anna took a deep breath. "I just want to ask about someone. Mr. Ford, you’re immensely powerful. Could you help me out?"
"No," Jasper Ford refused outright.
That single word choked back all the various speeches Anna had prepared. ’Forget it,’ she thought. ’I shouldn’t have said anything.’ She turned to go play with Beanie.
Her goal unachieved and Vivian Quincy absent, Anna couldn’t be bothered to stay at the Ford Family’s home. She played with Beanie for a little while longer and then left.
When Jasper Ford came downstairs again, they were already gone. He asked Madam Ford, "Where’s Beanie?"
"You couldn’t be bothered to talk to them when they were here, and now you ask about them after they’ve left." Madam Ford huffed coldly. "Beanie’s Mom took the initiative to speak with you, and you couldn’t even give her a pleasant look. What is it, do you hate women or like men?"
The entire living room instantly fell deathly silent.
The maids who heard this all lowered their heads, using silence to minimize their presence. They hadn’t heard a thing, they knew nothing...
Jasper Ford thought of Anna and said, "Mom, was that really Beanie’s Mom?"
"Yes, Beanie said so himself. How could that be false?" Madam Ford retorted.
Jasper Ford said, "They don’t look alike at all."
Besides, Jasper Ford found Anna’s voice and build somewhat familiar, as if he had seen her somewhere before. He had spent the entire busy day in meetings and reading documents. His temples ached, and in his exhaustion, he couldn’t recall who she reminded him of.
Madam Ford, however, thought Jasper Ford was being paranoid. "You’re overthinking it. Maybe Beanie looks like his dad? Besides, you and I don’t look alike either. When I was young, I had seventeen or eighteen boyfriends. And then I look at you... what a failure!"
The more Madam Ford thought about it, the more frustrated she became, and she turned and walked away.
The man’s divinely handsome face darkened slightly. ’Anna.’ That name would be easy to look up.
And she worked nearby.
Soon, Caden Chandler sent the investigation materials to Jasper Ford’s email and called to report immediately. "President, I’ve looked into this Anna’s family background. She’s a Crestfall native, grew up here, twenty-five years old, unmarried. She’s the childhood sweetheart and fiancée of Zachary Thornton from Thornton Corporation. There are four people in her family, two children. The older one is Anna, and the younger one is... Beanie... Quincy?"
Caden Chandler was reading the report to Jasper Ford, and he froze when he got to the two words "Beanie Quincy."
He quickly added, "President, this Beanie Quincy was just registered in the household registry a few days ago."
Jasper Ford’s expression darkened abruptly. ’What does that mean?’
Caden Chandler said in surprise, "This Beanie isn’t Anna’s child either. The household register lists him as her younger brother. That’s not right. Beanie has always called Anna ’Mommy’. I’m sure I remember that correctly."
Caden Chandler was muttering to himself, and at the same time, Jasper Ford opened his email to check the message Caden had sent.
It clearly stated the relationship between Beanie and the Sawyer Family.
Caden Chandler had also put together a profile summary for him. The Anna he investigated was the same person who had come to the Ford Family’s home today claiming to be Beanie’s mother.
The man chuckled softly. ’This is getting more and more interesting.’
"President, should I continue investigating?" Caden Chandler couldn’t help but ask.
Jasper Ford smiled faintly, a devilish, arrogant grin playing on his lips. "No. I’ll go ask myself."
After hanging up, Jasper Ford looked at the information in the email with a half-smile. His fair fingers tapped idly on the desk, the rhythm light and pleasant to the ear.
Imperium Group had a partnership with Thornton. Around noon, Jasper Ford made a special trip to see Zachary Thornton to discuss work.
Just as Jasper Ford expected, Beanie Quincy—nominally Anna’s dependent younger brother—should have been with his parents at this age. Instead, he was stuck to Anna’s side like glue.
All morning, Beanie sat obediently by Anna’s desk, reading a picture book, not making a sound or causing any trouble.
When Jasper Ford arrived, he saw Beanie at a glance but didn’t call out to him. At the secretary’s invitation, he entered Zachary Thornton’s office, and the two of them talked for half an hour before finishing.
Zachary Thornton sat in his executive chair with his legs crossed. Seeing that Jasper Ford showed no sign of leaving, he said with a smile, "Is there something else, President Ford?"
Jasper Ford chuckled. "President Thornton, you’re not getting any younger. Not getting married?" 𝓯𝓻𝒆𝙚𝒘𝓮𝙗𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝒍.𝙘𝓸𝙢
"Mr. Ford, you seem to be a few years older than me," Zachary Thornton retorted. "Aren’t you unmarried as well?"
Seeing that his attempt to fish for information had failed, Jasper Ford couldn’t be bothered to beat around the bush any longer. He pointed to Anna outside. "Is she married?"
"She’s my woman. What are you planning?" Zachary Thornton’s demeanor instantly became serious.
The man chuckled lightly. "Nothing. I just wanted to ask who the child next to her is."
