A Life Once More-Chapter 60: Ophi and Kate (needs sensory details)
Chapter 60 - 60: Ophi and Kate (needs sensory details)
{Ophelia's pov}
"Hmm~ Hmm~" Walking to class, I couldn't help but smile. To think that my best friend actually found someone as good as Eiz just made me happy. Was I jealous? Absolutely not. I didn't need a significant other as long as I had her.
I got into class in no time, and soon after me, Kate appeared with a radiant smile. Matching her energy, the moment she got to her desk, I yanked her into a hug. She hugged back, reassuring me that she wasn't completely taken by Eiz.
"So~?" I teased while staring into her eyes. I wanted to hear about everything in person! Sure, she had told me over the phone, but this and that were different!
Kate flinched a bit but still went on about how everything went. It was amazing to hear, and honestly, I kind of felt like taking her up on her offer just to experience what she did, but I stopped myself from such thinking. Sure, Kate said she'd somewhat share, but that didn't feel right to me because it didn't consider Eiz's opinion.
I'd do anything with and for Kate if it was just her, but to include another person in our selfishness was wrong. Now, if he did agree...
'Calm down, Ophi!' I had to clear my head of such thoughts. It would only distract me from my own goal!
'Yes, how about I at least prove to Eiz that I can live up to his expectations! After that, I'll talk with Kate about this subject again—then Eiz.'
He had given me $100,000 for my business—and free of charge. If I couldn't even live up to the trust he had in me, then I had no right to be considering any of this nonsense.
"Ophi, want to come over for dinner tonight?"
"At the dorm or at your parents' place?" I asked, my voice casual as I leaned back, the faint hum of my desk fan brushing against my skin.
"Parents. They said they're having Jadeian!"
"Pfft~ You still really love Jadeian food."
"Because it's good. Don't hate on my food take!"
Shrugging, I smirked, stretching slightly in my chair. "I'm not hating. I just prefer something less spicy and more balanced."
"Yeah~ Yeah~, you liar. I remember when you shoved some noodles down a guy's throat for touching you. That is not at all balanced!"
I laughed, the memory crisp in my head; the flicker of neon lights from the ramen shop's sign, the scent of broth and chili in the air, and the absolute shock on his face.
"What does that have to do with my food taste?!"
"Everything! If you truly enjoyed the food, you wouldn't use it as a weapon!"
"That thinking is wrong!" I declared, half-laughing. "If you truly love something, you'd use it in every situation possible."
"T-That's disgusting," she muttered, her face scrunching up like she'd bitten into a lemon.
"...What's going on in your head now?" I asked, narrowing my eyes as a flicker of unease crawled up my spine.
"You'd use it even in sex?"
"Do you want to die."
"I'm gonna call Eiz if you kill me!"
"H-How would you call him when you're dead?"
"Um... the power of love?"
"Ugh." I covered my face in shame. The fact that she can say that only shows how much she loves him. I already knew Kate loved him an insane amount, but to see it still skyrocket like this made me feel some embarrassment for the future. I get that he was a great guy and checked off every box, but come on!
After a few moments of silence, I calmed down and looked over at my cute little friend smiling.
"Kate, want to hang out after class?"
"Sure! Whatcha wanna do?"
"I don't know. Just wanna walk around and find out?"
"Hehe~ Just like always!"
"Of course." I patted my chest in pride.
"Bahahahaha~!" Her laughter became louder, and my face felt the shame return even after its recent departure. I wasn't typically the one to get like this, but today was just that kind of day, I guess.
Class soon started and ended, with our professor seemingly in a bad mood again. I thought back on her and that dude but shook my head. It wasn't any of my business, and as long as nothing obscene or extremely violent happened, I didn't need to get involved.
As Kate and I walked out of class, I realized that a certain someone wasn't here. I was so entertained with Kate that I completely forgot that all three of us shared this class.
"Where's Eiz?" I asked curiously.
Kate puffed, "He said he had to handle some business today."
"Oh." I felt kind of sad hearing that. His presence was nice to be around.

"Heh." She chuckled under her breath.
"Why are you staring at me like that?" I glanced up, her eyes locked onto me with a glint that sent a chill up my spine.
"I just know it won't be long."
"Won't be long for?"
"You know." Her voice had a teasing lilt, but there was a warmth behind it, as if she was watching a flower slowly bloom.
I narrowed my eyes. "Kate, do you really want to die?"
"See you at the café~!" She sprinted off, leaving me in the dust. One thing about Kate is that she takes care of her body to the extreme. I go to the best gym, but she goes beyond that, so catching up to her was a dream in itself.
'Stupid~ I have the money~!' It felt good knowing that even if she got there first, she couldn't do anything without me. I leisurely walked and took my sweet time to let that sink in. This should humble her a bit!
