A Luna for Alpha Kieran-Chapter 114: Dead already
Chapter 114: Dead already
"Autumn?Autumn??!" Kieran fumbled, his eyes still shut tight, his hands fished for something but only swept through air.
He rolled over, still sleeping when he suddenly started yanking and kicking."NOOOOO...Autumn NOOOOO!Don’t leave me!!"
Then he jolted awake!!
" AUTUMN!!!" Her name barely tore from his throat only for a hand to clamp over his mouth, muffling the sound.
Desperation took over.
He reacted on pure instinct. He seized the wrist, twisting it with a snarl, his claws pricking skin and breaking a bone ,but he couldn’t register. "Mmph!" came the muffled cry. A feminine voice. Panicked!
His vision adjusted...he could see metal walls, crates, a dim lantern swaying above. The scent of damp wood, rust and the creaking groan of an old hull.
"Alpha! Please..." the voice whispered, almost sobbing as she tried adjusting his grip on her wrist, "...you are going to get us killed!"
Kieran blinked rapidly, panting as if he had just run through hell. "Please Alpha! Wake up! We are still in the vessel...surrounded by water...hiding..." Vera gasped, her other hand flying up in surrender as she whispered frantically.
His grip released her wrist and he shoved her back...hard enough for her to stumble against a metal crate.
She didn’t retaliate. She was trembling."We are still sailing...en route...and it seems...," she choked out in a hush. " ...seems like we are headed towards those lands...( she did an A sign with her fingers, too scared to even name what she wanted to say)".
Kieran’s brows furrowed. "What?!!We are headed far north? Did we cross the lake already? The ocean? How far are we from the mainland??? "
"We are still in the fucking middle of nowhere, surrounded by water. You screamed so loud I swear they heard us... now we are dead meat!!!"
She pressed her fists against her lips to muffle her own sobs. "I told you to rest. You should have just rested ,Alpha! Why did you have to doze off? You were sleep talking...like damn! You were screaming...Oh fuck...we are so cooked...if they find us...fuck..."
Kieran blinked rapidly. His vision was still swimming a little. The dream clung to him like cobweb clings on to old abandoned castles.Autumn’s scent, her warmth, the way her tears had tasted, her fear, her pain, that longing...Gone.
All of it, gone.
"I saw her," Kieran rasped.
Vera’s brows pinched together. "What do you mean you saw her?A dream? "
Kieran dragged his hands down his face. His skin still burned where Autumn had touched him. He shook his head. "She was trapped. In a glass room. Calling for me. I held her..." Then suddenly he snapped.
"Where is it?" he growled.
"Where is what, Alpha?" Vera whispered, concern creeping into her voice as she trembled, repeatedly looking behind her shoulders.
His claws retracted with a snick. But his fingers were still twitching. His soul was screaming.
He felt stripped.
Hollowed out.
Like a part of him had just been ripped from a place so close...and the return to reality was like being dropped into ice.
Nothing would be enough until he had her back in his arms.
He snarled, sniffing his own limbs, his shirt, desperate for even a trace of her...something. But he got nothing. Just his own sweat!
He looked down at his own arms like a madman. Now sniffing his chest...his sleeves...his fingers. "I held her. I could feel her.She was right there!Right fucking in my arms...you hear me?!"
Then he stopped. His lip curled. He let out a guttural growl. Low but it made Vera recoil.
"Alpha!" she hissed. "Please!Get a grip on yourself! This is not the time. We are not even halfway to the mainland. These people...they have weapons that could drop us both dead before we blink. We are floating on a death trap surrounded by mercenaries who will not hesitate to gut you and hang me from the sails! You need to calm down...Calm down!I beg you." freёweɓnovel_com
He didn’t answer her.His pulse was still thundering in his ears.
And then...
Thud! Thud..
A sound.
Both of them froze.
The cargo hold of the vessel was pitch dark but they could still see each other’s silhouettes.
Vera sat up straighter. "Did you hear that??"
Tap. Tap.
Kieran whirled around, his posture snapping into that of a predator.
A third sound. Scrape. Like nails clawing against metal.
Kieran crouched. "It is coming from the coffins," he whispered.Vera moved beside him, her breath shallow, her nose flaring. They crept over, silently crawling across the floor of the cargo hold...past crates and canvas wrapped supplies...until they reached the long, steel sarcophagus like boxes. The same ones they had seen earlier being ’packed alive’ ...you know...each one chilled, drugged, sealed tight.
Another thump. Louder. A sudden shove came from inside.
"Shit!" Vera whispered.Kieran didn’t waste time.
He exchanged a sharp glance with her, then...Swipe!
His claws slid out, slicing clean through the latch. Not a sound. No hissing gas. No alarms.
And then...
Crack.
The lid burst open.
A girl sprang out like a Jumping Jack! Her arms flailed, and her bare legs slipped as she scrambled for footing. Her face was too pale, whitish...blood drained...her hair matted, eyes wide with madness and desperation.
" Have mercy! Don’t take me! Please don’t take me. My mother has no one but me! She is sick! Please let me go...I will give you all my blood...just...just don’t take me away from my mother...please I beg you...Please...MAMA..."She opened her mouth to scream louder. But Vera was faster.
She tackled her, pressing sharp claws to her throat. "Yell and you die on the spot!" she hissed.
The girl froze. Her breath came in rapid pants. Her chest heaved.
But then...She scoffed.
"I am dead anyway."
Kieran narrowed his eyes. Before he could speak...before Vera could adjust her grip...The girl jerked free.
Too fast.
She slipped from Vera’s hold, dove into a run, and dashed.
Straight towards the only open vent shaft.
Kieran’s head whipped towards it... His heart dropped as he immediately understood the situation.
She was going to jump.
