Chapter 201: THE START OF THE WAR (3)

"Are you accusing me of something?" Rose couldn’t help, but took defensive stance and it didn’t go unnoticed by Logan, of course, it didn’t please him at all.

"I didn’t accuse you of anything, I ask why the king needed you and why did you come to River Creek pack before?"

"The king needed my help and I was helping him to appease the people there. The problem with the food supply made people anxious."

Logan narrowed his eyes, which made Rose tensed up, she thought he was going to ask more questions, but as it turned out, he only shook his head and then waved his hand.

"We will leave in ten minutes."

And that was all before he left the room, leaving Rose bewildered with his nonchalant attitude. She couldn’t understand him. He didn’t touch her, but he didn’t go to the brothel either. She could understand if he went there, what men would pass the opportunity to get a little bit pleasure?

But, as far as Rose knew, he didn’t.

Or... maybe he didn’t like woman? Just like the king...

Rose shook her head. She was being overthinking lately.

There were three warrior leaders, who reported back to Zuri, they were presence in the strategy room the next day, even though Ezra didn’t make an appearance. He still disagreed with Zuri to be there.

Caiden couldn’t talk sense to his father either.

"If you keep doing this, you are going to anger the alpha. You have committed a mistake once, I don’t think Khaos will let you leave unscathed the next time."

Ezra glowered at his son. "So, you took her side," he hissed viciously. "You are a disappointment. I thought my first born will be better than this."

Caiden took a deep breath, it was not the first time his father expressed his disappointment on him, but it didn’t mean it was not stung. It still hurt him.

"I expected to have a better father than you too. You are not the only disappointed here."

"Caiden!" Mabel yelled at him, she widened her eyes, horrified with the word that Caiden said and a slap landed on his face.

The slap came from Ezra. His claws must have accidentally emerged, because his cheek bled. Or maybe, his father did intend to hurt him.

"Watch your mouth!"

Caiden casually wiped the blood, as his wound healed. He nodded at his father solemnly, as if there was nothing happened. "I have a meeting to attend. I will take my leave now."

He didn’t wait for Ezra’s permission to leave, as he walked out of the room, but outside, he saw the twin and Rian.

"Did you fight with father again?" Mave asked. He glanced from the closed door to Caiden, his little face contorted.

"You are bleeding." Otis pointed it out the blood on his cheek.

"I am fine." Caiden wiped the blood more thoroughly this time. "Don’t anger father, okay? I don’t want he scolded you."

The twin and Rian walked with Caiden, until he reached the strategy room and he shooed them away to play somewhere else.

Two days later, Rhett came with his warriors, he brought five thousand warriors with him and met with Zuri. They spent a whole day to talk about the battle that took place in Garren Mole city. Khaos managed to win the battle there and he was going to march to Blackthorne pack’s territory.

Right now, Khaos had taken three towns, which was part of Blackthorne pack. He was going to move further, but it wouldn’t be as easy, since the king would send his full warriors to defend the pack.

Therefore, Rhett was there as a back up.

After the meeting, Zuri dismissed all the people, but Rhett stayed behind. He looked at Zuri closely, as if he was going to say something.

"Can we talk for a while?" Rhett asked, he approached his sister when he was about to leave the room, yet Zuri pretended that he didn’t exist.

She could act neutral and listen to his suggestion during the meeting, but aside from that, she didn’t want to look at him at all.

"Zuri," Rhett called her name desperately, he grabbed her hand, but it was a wrong move and the next thing that he felt was a sharp pain on his cheek, as his head tilted to the side. Zuri backhanded him.

"Don’t touch me," she said darkly. "Don’t you dare to fucking touch me."

Rhett lifted his head and then looked at Zuri, this time his eyes hardened. "You have changed. The sister that I know will never act like this."

Hearing that, Zuri laughed out loud, that sounded weirdly ridiculous in her ears and she couldn’t help it. "Seriously, Rhett, after you created a monster in me and all the black magic that you inflicted on me, do you still wish to see that naïve girl, who used to look at you with adoration? The little girl, who used to think even though all the people were mean to her, at the very least, she had a brother, who loved her and would never hurt her."

Rhett flinched when he heard that and Zuri got the satisfaction from it. She wanted to hurt him more. She knew that he still cared for her. He was the one, who thought where to find her when Elijah kidnapped her.

But it didn’t offset all the pain that he caused.

"That girl is dead. You are the one, who killed her, right now I am the monster of your own creation." Zuri smirked, she liked it when he looked so hurt and uncomfortable.

"Zuri, you don’t understand how important this is." Rhett shook his head. "You chose this path too. I know the alpha gave you an option to leave, but you chose to stay. How could you blame me for that?"

"I chose to stay because I will not survive out there with the crazy voices in my head!" Zuri was fuming mad.
