A New Life In The Beast World-Chapter 108: An Egg
"Do you think it’s possible to hunt down a cow or sheep here?" Serena asked Theo the next morning while they were preparing breakfast.
"Huh?" Theo glanced up at her, furrowing his eyebrows at her sudden question. "Oh... That’s at least a five day trip because the nearest herds are probably west from here. Though Jason would have a better idea of that one..."
Serena pursed her lips at those words. A five day trip didn’t seem like much, but that was five days that they couldn’t put towards preparing for the cold season.
Which would be around two weeks time according to what Merinda had said. And they were yet to complete the cold season preparation mission with two items left - stocking up on plants and meat.
The most important parts.
"Is there something you need?" Theo asked.
"I need some animal fat." Serena answered bluntly. "Those animals would be best, but I guess I can work with boar or deer instead. They’ll be easier to hunt right?"
"Yeah, there’s plenty more of them around here." Theo responded. "Do you need a lot of animal fat?"
"Just what you can spare." Serena answered.
For now, cold season preparation took priority over soap making because it would determine whether they survived the cold season or not. There was a risk of failing the soap making mission.
But she would rather fail it than go hungry.
"Anyway, I’m going to check on the wild birds." Serena continued, picking up the bowl of vegetable scraps. "Is this everything?"
"It is." Theo nodded his head.
And with that, Serena headed to the coop. The wild birds were roaming around as usual, one of them following her as she moved. It seemed it had figured out that she was the source of food.
Serena refilled the water and food bowl before cleaning out the coop and adding some new straw and ash. As she was cleaning the nesting area, her eyes spotted an egg.
She carefully picked it up, searching for more, but there didn’t seem to be any others. However, seeing the lone egg still made her quite cheerful. It had taken some time, but they were finally getting eggs.
Even if it was a little slow.
Once she was done cleaning, Serena headed back to the hut to show the egg to the other two. Theo seemed happy that their plan was working and they had a new food source.
Meanwhile, Kiro was eager that they were finally getting eggs and asked, "Sister, can I have it for breakfast please?"
"I suppose it wouldn’t hurt." Serena answered with a small smile.
She washed the egg along with her hands and put it to boil next to the other food cooking. Then she went to grab their breakfast bowls and some brown strips.
Breakfast still needed some time, so she decided to weave some baskets. Kiro got excited over what she was doing, so Serena showed him how to weave the brown strips together to make a basket.
Then she gave the cub a few of his own brown strips to try it out. However, it didn’t go so well and she landed up spending the whole time teaching him how to weave.
And by the time she was ready to get back to her own weaving, Theo told them food was ready. Serena went to pack everything away and they soon ate breakfast, Kiro splitting his egg between them.

After leaving Kiro at the village center, Serena went to go look for Elder Samuel. She’d been putting off meeting with the Council for some time despite saying she would and wanted to end that.
Because she was barely making any progress doing everything by herself. Serena didn’t like admitting that to herself, however, she couldn’t keep lying to herself.
This project was just way too big for one person to do alone. Especially with how limited her knowledge was. And while the Council also had limited knowledge, they weren’t completely skilless.
Almost all of them were experts in some kind of field which was how they were able to join the Council. And their expertise would probably get things done quicker than Serena becoming a jack of all trades in everything.
Then there was the fact that she still needed to have her sit down with Merinda. She hadn’t forgotten the older beastwoman’s words about there being other gods in this world.
Serena wanted intel on that because Liz was now useless to her on that information side. Speaking of the system, Serena couldn’t help but wonder why it had decided to use her head as its new sleeping spot.
It was better off staying in her subspace until she needed it than snoozing on her head. Especially in some guinea pig form. Her hair was a mess already and she didn’t need it getting worse.
Sighing, Serena went past the Council hut, not seeing Elder Samuel there. She headed to the village entrance, deciding that if she didn’t meet him along the way, then she’d just go straight to foraging and look for him later.
"You should head a bit to the west." Liz suddenly murmured, not bothering to open its eyes.
Serena snorted, heading the direction Liz had given her, "So, you’re awake then."
"Was awake the whole time. Your quiet mumbling was annoying me." Liz retorted, shifting further into her hair.
"Careful..." Serena hissed, about to grab the system out of her hair.
However, she stopped in her tracks upon seeing Elder Samuel chatting with the plump beastwoman from the Council. Emelia was her name, Serena believed.
"Good morning." Serena greeted the older beastman and beastwoman. "I hope I’m not interrupting something..."
Emelia waved a hand. "You’re good, dear. We’re just wondering how to deal with a beehive... Now what do you need?"
"A beehive?" Serena blinked, wondering if her luck was beginning to turn.
"Mhhmm." Elder Samuel nodded his head. "Some of the beastwomen living around here were complaining about a constant buzzing noise and then one of the beastmen found a beehive. We’re wondering what to do now."
