Chapter 148: Confirming A Date (1)

When they got back, they found Theo finishing up with smoking the meat. Serena left to check on Finn, only to find that the rabbit beastman had to restart on one of the wheel parts because he accidentally cracked it.

At first she thought he would be upset at it failing, but it seemed the rabbit beastman took it as a challenge. And overcoming challenges was his favorite thing it seemed.

So much so, she had to get him to pack it up for the night before he spent the rest of the evening at their hut. Of course, Finn wasn’t quite done, so took one of the stones back with him when he left despite Serena telling him not to overwork himself.

Not that he listened.

After the rabbit beastman finally left, Serena headed back to the hut and found Theo was preparing for dinner. She moved to help and they used some more of the herbs she collected to spice the meat.

However, they changed the amounts as Theo wanted to experiment on the taste. Serena let him do as he wanted to only because she knew those herbs were safe no matter the quantity.

She just made a note to gather more because it seemed their days of plain, roasted meat were over.

While Theo sorted out the meat, Serena prepared some vegetables for Kiro and her. This time, however, she roasted purple roots and orange roots, wanting to see if their flavor changed too.

As they were roasting, Kiro and her headed over to the garden to check on the wild birds. She gave them the vegetable scraps before she cleaned the coop up. Kiro, meanwhile, was sent to get more straw for her.

They soon returned to the fire area as the sun was setting and waited for dinner to be ready. The scent of food cooking wafted through the air once more, making them all hungry.

It was then that Serena remembered her bowl was still in her subspace. Thus she headed inside the hut and entered her subspace to retrieve her bowl. Which she found next to a sleeping Liz.

Shaking her head at the blue snake, Serena returned to the hut and quickly cleaned out the bowl. She then went to grab the other bowls before heading back outside.

Food took another thirty minutes before it was ready and by then they were all practically drooling. When Theo served food, Serena withheld Kiro’s potion for a bit so it would cool down. 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝒆𝒘𝙚𝓫𝙣𝙤𝒗𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢

Because she did not need the cub accidentally burning himself in a rush to eat his food.

The meal went down quite well and Serena found that she preferred the vegetables flavored this way. Perhaps she would try the long, orange squash tomorrow.

After they were done eating and cleaning up, the trio of felines sat by the fire and chatted for a bit. Kiro soon got tired though and it was off to bed with him.

Once he had settled for the night, Serena decided to bring up her idea to have the other cubs over. She didn’t do it in front of Kiro, not wanting him to get upset if Theo said no.

She preferred to let him down gently.

"Theo... I wanted to ask something." Serena said, taking a seat next to the tiger beastman.

He turned his attention to her and asked, "What is it?"

"I was thinking of letting Kiro’s friends spend the day here." Serena explained. "He wants to show them the wild birds, but I thought it would be nice if they could play here too. They’re always playing at the village center, so a change of pace might be nice... Plus, the other beastwomen are always watching Kiro... and I feel a little guilty for that."

She was a little nervous about saying the last part, but she wanted to be honest about her motives to Theo. Trust was important if this courting thing was going to work.

"Also don’t feel bad about saying no." Serena added. "If you don’t feel comfortable about having the rabbit cubs around the hut, then please say so... I’m just trying to be clear with my motives here."

"It’s no trouble..." Theo said before going silent. He finally added, "The only thing that concerns me is how the cubs will react with me around. They didn’t seem to like me when they saw me last time."

"I think they were just nervous..." Serena pursed her lips. "Maybe they’ll be fine once they get to know you."

Of course, Serena couldn’t be a hundred percent sure with that. Because even after being here for some time now, some rabbit beastmen were still not quite used to Theo being around.

Serena wasn’t sure if it was because of his rank as a five striped beastman or because he was a predator type beastman. Serena was assuming it was mainly the former one because most were fine around Kiro and her.

And they were predator type beastmen too.

"Hmm... Maybe." Theo mused. "But I think it might be better if I spend the day out hunting. Although, I’m worried about you having to care for several cubs by yourself..."

"It shouldn’t be that difficult." Serena said.

Especially if they were anything like Kiro. He had his moments here and there, but for the most part it was quite easy to look after him. He was well behaved and generally listened to what she had to say.

Theo bit his lip. "Maybe I should stay instead... Keep to the side unless something happens."

Serena wasn’t sure how to feel about those words, but she took them as Theo agreed to do this. Though she had to make one thing clear.

"Are you absolutely sure you’re fine with this?" Serena asked.

"I’m fine with it. One day won’t hurt us." Theo responded firmly.

"Alright then..." Serena mused. "I’ll talk to the rabbit beastwomen about this and confirm when this is going to happen."

Theo nodded his head. "Sounds good to me."
