A New Life In The Beast World-Chapter 89: Subspace Benefits?
Theo nodded his head in agreement and Serena quickly went inside to gather the items. She then handed her basket to them and Kiro and Theo soon left.
Serena, meanwhile, got food going, making a simple soup. As she was preparing the ingredients, she turned to Liz and said, "Alright, we’re alone now. So, please do explain all these benefits for the subspace?"
While it had been an off comment from Liz while she was in her subspace, Serena had not forgotten about it. In fact, she had made a mental note to herself to ask Liz about it as soon as she was alone with the system.
Perhaps these so-called benefits could explain why upgrading the subspace cost 500 coins. Not that Serena would upgrade it anyway. She barely had any coins left and needed to save them in case she needed more of those books.
Because they were certainly showing their use to her. Especially with Liz giving her information from them whenever she needed them which made up for its constant chattering.
"Well for one, you get more space and can turn the subspace into whatever you need it for." Liz explained.
Serena frowned at its words as she added some chopped up brown roots into the soup. "But I have already turned it into whatever I need it for. It’s a storage space."
Liz rolled its eyes at Serena’s words. "You’re thinking so basic. No wonder it’s just a white room. I bet you never thought of making it into a house or even farmland. The subspace can shift into any design you want it to. Think of it as you being a god to this world. A tiny world which you can grow and get more things from."
Serena gaped at what Liz had just told her. She couldn’t believe that the subspace would turn into whatever she wanted it to. This changed a lot of things for her.
She could definitely make it into some kind of mini farm to work as a backup supply for food. The only downside was that non-living things couldn’t enter her subspace.
Otherwise, she would’ve tried raising more wild birds for eggs and meat. Though, it did make her wonder if she could even grow anything here. Plants were living things too. Right?
Then again, only Serena was able to enter the subspace, but Liz had broken that rule. But maybe the rule didn’t count for Liz because it was technically the system operating the subspace, so it didn’t count.
Although it didn’t really explain the permission thing. Serena wanted to groan at the spiraling thoughts in her head. She needed to start getting some answers.
Finally Serena asked as she finished preparing the soup and left it to cook, "Okay, but why wasn’t this explained earlier? Also how would a farm even work here? I thought non-living things can only enter the subspace."
"True." Liz nodded its head. "But that’s for your basic subspace. If you upgrade it, you can allow living things to access it, allow others to enter or even access your subspace or even have your own familiars to help care for your subspace when you’re away. Each level up has its own benefit along with more space."
Serena pursed her lips at the system’s words. It sounded great and all, now that she was processing the words, she couldn’t help but doubt just how great the subspace really was.
It felt too good to be true and made Serena wonder why she would even get something as powerful as this. Then it hit her. It was basically just another copy of the system shop.
She needed coins or missions to upgrade this subspace, meaning she’d need to do whatever the system wanted her to do. And as she spent time on this subspace, she slowly got further and further away from her true goal.
Obtaining the soul transfer to get her revenge.
It was already so expensive and her having to constantly use coins on other things was making things harder for her. There was no doubt in her mind that that item was meant to be unobtainable.
It was just a carrot meant to get her to do whatever the being behind the system wanted her to do. Of course, she already understood that she was being taken advantage of.
But she only played along because she would benefit from it too at the end of the day. However, if this system was going to make things harder for her to reach her true goal, then she wasn’t going to play nicely anymore.
She was going to use the system as much as possible too. So much so, that being would want to send her back to her own world for free.
Serena almost laughed out loud at the unrealistic thought. Still, at least she understood things a little better now.
"Alright I understand." Serena finally said. "I guess I’ll have to think about upgrading it later... But for now, are there any missions available? It would be great if I could get as many done as possible. Doesn’t matter if they’re small or big."
Her idea was to do a bunch now to get enough coins that she could be more selective of her mission in future. Because there was no doubt in her mind one day there would come a mission that she would absolutely need to refuse no matter what. 𝙛𝒓𝒆𝙚𝒘𝒆𝓫𝙣𝓸𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝒄𝒐𝓶
"I will look into it." Liz answered before its eyes flashed. It then murmured, "Currently searching..."
Serena turned away from the system as it searched for missions for her to do, cleaning up the food scraps. She took the peels from the brown roots and oranges roots and went to toss them in the garden.
They kept a pile for food scraps in the corner of the garden, Rico having told them about making a compost heap. That way they could use it to help their vegetables grow better.
As she was heading back, Liz finally spoke up, "Three missions have been found."
