A Night of Desire-Chapter 100: She Had No Need to Lie
Miles Quinn was on the other end of the line, calling Clara Grant from the hallway outside the president’s office at Aegis Pictures. He had just heard her say, "Thank you, Miles," when the line went silent.
Instead, he faintly heard another woman’s voice, which sounded incredibly stern, before the call was abruptly disconnected.
When he tried calling back, it went straight to a notification that the phone was off.
Miles Quinn frowned. ’That stern woman’s voice... it sounded like Director Conway, the head of the performance department. Did she say Clara Grant was in the vice principal’s office? And that she had something serious to discuss with her?’
’What could it be?’
After a moment of frowning in thought, Miles Quinn strode to the president’s office, pushed the door open, and snatched the car keys from the coffee table, ready to leave.
Seth Quinn, who had been engrossed in his work, looked up. Seeing Miles in such a panic, he asked in a low voice, "What’s wrong? Why the rush?"
"Something came up. I have to go out," Miles Quinn said, already running out the door.
Seth Quinn shook his head at his retreating figure, then lowered his gaze and returned to his work.
...
Clara Grant glanced at her phone, which Director Conway had thrown forcefully onto the desk. She frowned slightly. ’Even if there’s something serious to discuss, isn’t her attitude a bit too harsh and aggressive?’
But she held her tongue and said nothing.
The vice principal, who had been sitting silently in his office chair, finally looked at Clara Grant and spoke. "You’re Clara Grant?"
Clara Grant nodded. "I am."
"The photos on the school forum... is the girl in them you?"
Clara Grant nodded again, her answer honest. "Yes."
’The girl in the photos was, indeed, her. She couldn’t lie about it, nor did she see any reason to.’
Standing to the side, the director looked utterly distraught, shaking her head again and again. "Clara Grant, you’re certainly quick to admit it, and so brazenly too! Do you have no sense of shame for a young woman?"
If Clara Grant had been able to tolerate Director Conway’s behavior up until this point, she had now reached her limit.
Her expression remained calm, but her gaze turned icy as she looked at Director Conway. "Director Conway, please speak clearly. How exactly do I have no sense of shame? What is wrong with admitting that the person in those photos is me?"
"What’s wrong? By admitting you’re the girl in the photos, you’re admitting that you have a shady and improper relationship with the man in them!" Director Conway didn’t back down an inch, stating it bluntly.
She had promised Chloe Grant that she would get Clara Grant expelled from the university. To do that, she had to solidify the "fact" that Clara was being kept by a man off-campus, her indecent behavior bringing shame upon the school!
"Director Conway!" Clara Grant’s voice grew sharp. "As a teacher, and as a person in a position of authority, don’t you think it’s inappropriate to slander one of your students so casually without first investigating the truth?
I only admitted that the person in the photos is me. I never admitted to being in an improper relationship! If you insist that I am, then please, provide evidence that I’m being kept by a man, or that I’ve slept with one.
Otherwise, concluding that I’m being kept based solely on those photos is quite a stretch, don’t you think? After all, the man and I aren’t shown doing anything remotely intimate in them, are we?"
Since the director showed not a shred of professional integrity, Clara Grant dropped all pretense of politeness. Yet, her words were not just a wild counter-attack; every sentence was logical and to the point.
"What is there to argue about? You were dropped off at school this morning in a luxury car. If that’s not being kept, what is? A student like you who brings shame on this university should be expelled immediately to serve as a warning to others!"
