Chapter 33: Chapter 33: Call Someone Over to Keep Me Company

Hearing Clara Grant, Sarah Shelby scoffed. "It’s just those two shameless bitches in the Grant Family now, right? I refuse to believe their reach extends that far! The Grant Family has its resources, and the Shelby Family has its own. I’d like to see just how powerful they really are. You think everyone is going to bow down to them?"

When Clara Grant heard her mention the Shelby Family, she knew Sarah truly wanted to help her, but...

"Forget it, Sarah. You’ve never dragged the whole Shelby Family into your own problems. Why should you trouble Mr. Shelby for my sake? I don’t want you and your mom to get caught up in this."

"I don’t have to drag the Shelby Family into things because whether my dad spoils me or feels he owes me, he’ll help me even if I don’t ask. In any case, just stop overthinking it. I’ll figure something out."

"Really, Sarah, I don’t mind whether I get to act or not. You know why I applied to the acting department at The Nymphaea in the first place—it wasn’t because I love acting. Besides, back then I was still the young lady of the Grant Family. I didn’t have to worry about career prospects or anything, so I was a bit impulsive. If it were now, I wouldn’t enroll in a program I didn’t like, no matter the reason. But the good thing is, even though I can’t act, I can stay on as a teacher after graduation, so at least I can put my degree to use. Teaching doesn’t pay as much as acting, but fortunately, while I’m not rich, I don’t have any major financial worries. More importantly, I quite enjoy being on campus."

Clara Grant looked Sarah Shelby right in the eye and continued, "So, Sarah, you don’t need to worry about me. And you don’t need to do anything risky for my sake."

Before Sarah Shelby could respond, Clara quickly changed the subject. "Oh, right, I left my motorcycle at the entrance to The Tuberose yesterday. How about you give me a ride over there to get it?"

Sarah Shelby knew Clara didn’t want to be a bother, so she didn’t press the issue. She stood up, grabbed her car keys, and tossed them in her hand. "Let’s go!" she declared grandly.

Clara Grant got up too. As they headed out, she called her mother to let her know she was all right. After hearing her mother’s relieved voice on the other end, she told her she’d be home that night and then hung up.

It was already past six o’clock when they left, so the two of them grabbed a quick bite to eat before driving to The Tuberose.

...

In private room 306 at The Tuberose, Seth Quinn sat alone in the vast chamber.

After Clara Grant had run from the hotel, he had lingered in the room for hours, growing more and more restless. Around six, a waiter brought him an exquisite dinner, but he just sullenly picked at his food for a few bites before tossing his chopsticks aside.

Then he had driven to The Tuberose. He hadn’t called River Sterling or any of their other friends, just came by himself.

He and his friends were regulars, so the manager naturally recognized him. Knowing Seth’s distinguished status, the manager personally came to greet him upon his arrival and led him to their usual private room, 306.

Once inside, Seth Quinn sat down. The manager exchanged a few more pleasantries, then turned to leave.

But Seth Quinn’s voice stopped him. It was flat, betraying no emotion. "Send someone in for company."

The manager was momentarily stunned. It wasn’t the request that shocked him; of course he understood that "sending someone in for company" was a request for a female companion.

What stunned him was that the words had come from Seth Quinn’s mouth!
