A Night of Desire-Chapter 49: He Was Actually a Little Disappointed
"You were just trying to wake me up, not scare me to death!" Miles Quinn pouted and retorted, "It’s a good thing I’m your brother and not your enemy, or you’d mess with me until I was dead!"
Still, the scare had certainly cleared his head, and he wasn’t sleepy anymore.
"If you weren’t my brother, I wouldn’t have bothered driving you to school. I’d have let the old man force you into that marriage!"
Seth Quinn glanced at him, his voice as flat as ever.
"Sigh, the old man doesn’t dare to pressure you, so he just bullies me because I’m an easy target." Miles Quinn suddenly sounded drained. "And our older sister is so biased, too. It’s not okay for *you* to marry Chloe Grant, but it’s totally fine if *I* do! I’m seriously starting to wonder if I’m even the old man’s son or your real brother."
"You’re not."
"...Are you trying to make me die of anger just so you can inherit my millions of fans?"
"Trust me, if I wanted to, I’d have just as many fans as you."
Miles Quinn had to agree with that. With his older brother’s looks and presence, even if he wasn’t a celebrity, he could probably stand in a crowd and still steal Miles’s spotlight.
What’s more, he was a star-maker—the president of Aegis Entertainment!
It was just that his brother preferred to be low-key and mysterious, disliked being on camera, and was rarely seen in public. Otherwise, there probably wouldn’t be any room left for him or any other male star.
...
Soon, the car came to a stop at the school entrance.
Seth Quinn sat upright, looked at Miles Quinn, and said, "I’m not walking you in. Consider the short walk some exercise."
As he unbuckled his seatbelt, Miles Quinn mockingly agreed, "You’re right, I do need more exercise. I shouldn’t have troubled you for a ride; I should’ve just walked all the way from home. Think of all the exercise that would’ve been. Oh, what a waste of these gorgeous muscles!"
With that, he pushed the door open and got out. Without looking back, he gave a wave to Seth Quinn inside the car and headed onto campus.
Watching his brother’s retreating back, Seth Quinn’s lips curved into a faint, involuntary smile.
Seth Quinn watched his brother disappear onto campus but didn’t drive away. Instead, he pulled out a cigarette and lit it. Taking a drag, he rolled down the window, turned his head, and blew a chain of smoke rings into the air.
The smoke quickly dissipated. Seth Quinn’s gaze swept over the area as if he were searching for something.
There were many students coming and going from the campus entrance, but no sign of the person he was hoping to see. A flicker of disappointment crossed Seth Quinn’s eyes.
’Disappointment?’ Seth Quinn paused. ’Why would I be disappointed about not "bumping into" Clara Grant? I only came to drop Miles off, not to see her... right?’
DING.
While Seth Quinn was still zoned out, his phone chimed. It was the notification for a new email.
He stubbed out the cigarette after only a single drag, tossed it into the car’s ashtray, and picked up his phone to open his email.
As he read through the email, his brow furrowed slightly.
Clara Grant was Cedric Grant’s eldest daughter, Chloe Grant’s older half-sister?! That was something Seth Quinn had not expected.
’If she’s the eldest daughter of the Grant family, why would she be reduced to working as a "runner" just to get by?’
’Even though Cedric Grant and his ex-wife, Skylar Hayes, are divorced, Clara Grant is still his daughter. Could he really be abandoning his first wife and child for the sake of his current family? Just ignoring whether they live or die?’
As for the matter of Clara Grant having a son... Seth Quinn lowered his gaze and reread the rest of the report. The investigation showed that Clara Grant had no record of pregnancy or childbirth.
Furthermore, Clara Grant had lived in Novaria her entire life, and there were no records of her ever traveling to another city or going abroad.
’In that case, giving birth abroad was also out of the question.’
’Then what’s the deal with her so-called "son"? Could it be... that he isn’t her child?’
Seth Quinn looked up from his phone, his brow furrowed even more deeply. But unexpectedly, another emotion surfaced from within him—something like... joy.
Before Seth Quinn had a chance to understand why he felt such joy, a familiar figure suddenly entered the corner of his eye.
