A Nobody to a Trillionaire: The $100 Trillion Vault Changed Everything-Chapter 33: Make an SOS report!
Chapter 33: Make an SOS report!
As the words slipped Amanda’s lips, Tiffany broke loose. She yelped aloud, covering her face with her palms, probably weeping — as Jaxon thought. But just like at Aria’s funeral, Eve still tried hold back her tears, her anxiety amidst a mask of worry.
If the guys were really coming after them, they knew more than anyone there wasn’t no fib to it. They would do their thing and waste them without a second blink — not at all when they killed their colleague too, giving a nonchalant attitude at the end.
But calming them down, Kieran took it from where Amanda stopped, "And this is why we’re here." He said, and both friends glanced up at him. "They might be after you for no other reason than the fact that you know a lot about them for common civilians.
And gangs that operate underground won’t want someone who knows their secrets being alive freely in the outside world. This is what we have seen in movies and documentaries. They either kill you or imprison you. But whatever move they might wanna make, this is why we’re here. To weigh things together, and keep you guys safe..."
Tiffany immediately asked, teary eyes filled with desperation and anxiety, "W-what do we have to do? We will do anything you ask us to..."
Kieran shot a second glance at Amanda before she brought out two black wrist watches and placed them on the crystalline table. Kieran went on to explain these devices could provide SOS reports at any time, so, this is where their plan begins.
"Today is almost a week from when that incidence happened. And you might have been noticing some strange people around you..."
"Yes, I do!" Eve proclaimed in a loud tone, breathing sharply at the end.
Everyone’s eyes stayed on her for seconds while she had lowered her head in silent reasoning, clearly trying to bring the pieces together.
And when it seemed she had done so, she voiced out, "It’s mostly around the alleyway from school, because, you know, my house is very close to our school. S-so... Whenever I pass around there... um, I am not sure if I am just assuming things or not...
B-but I do notice some two guys having a smoke just by the corner I would take ahead. They were definitely older than high school students, so it’s not possible they were among the bullies that had fun beating us back then..."
"So," Kieran interjected, leaning back in his seat, "is it only those guys every day?"
Eve went silent for a while again, a finger held up, showing she was thinking about it. Finally, she nodded her head in disagreement. "I don’t see them every day... but they’re the same people!
Whenever I see them, I take another route because I do know my way well around the alleyway... From always trying to escape from those ones. T-the bullies." Her voice lowered at the end.
Jaxon pressed his lips down tightly on each other as he watched Eve explain better, and all that was in his mind was *what a poor kid*. He had never experienced school bullying, neither had his friends, but they knew well about conditions of the victims around the school.
They lose their confidence, always keeping their heads low and the pressure of the bullies hitting them at anytime distract their minds from what’s taught in the class.
He shook his head — for whatever reason the bullies might be on their necks, he hoped they just stop.
For the fact that the men only appear sometimes but don’t even chase her when she takes another route, from Kieran’s point of view, they might as well be Mrs Jackson’s men who lurk around for now to make sure Eve always takes that route.
And anytime soon, considering that this has happened five times — as Eve said — they would either abduct her to where they would end her life or just waste her in the alleyway.
Tiffany said she hadn’t experienced this, but it was most likely she just doesn’t notice.
Kieran then asked them to always have the SOS watch on and carry on.
"They have better features than normal SOS watches, most of which are automatic features."
The next day, Eve, strapping her bag close to herself, walked through the alleyway covered in the thin morning fog. Her chest pounded in her heart as she looked here and there for any signs of those guys, but they weren’t there. She just swallowed and proceeded into the school.
But why was she going to school alone now? Whatsoever, she and her friends used to wait for each other at the school gates.... But why was even Tiffany not waiting for her before stepping into the school? Not even a ’hi’ during lesson to when the bell rang, signalling the end of school hours.
Still, Eve threaded the alleyway alone. And again, no one... Was there.
This went on for days to a week more, and recieving updates from both the two ladies and the gangs he appointed to look after them in secret, Kieran almost assumed his hunch was wrong. That maybe Mrs Jackson didn’t plan on killing the friends.
But no... He still believed it wasn’t supposed to work like that. Mrs Jackson probably think he would want to play smart, to get clear evidences before relaying anything to the police.
Nor would his gang members do anything either without his consent. But these other two were friends of the bereaved, and everyone knows pretty well how those kind of people could act rashly.
Killing them wasn’t about preventing arrest or anything. But just against spoiling the Jackson’s image.
Once again, on a Saturday, Kieran met the ladies at the Aston Haven. Then he told them,
"Let’s play a tag game with them now that they aren’t making a move anymore. If they still don’t act even after that, then maybe it’s time to believe our assumption is wrong. But.... This would literally put you in the danger zone, but my men will make sure that danger doesn’t kill you. Though it might injure you..."
A subtle hint of warning had dripped at the end of his tone. The ladies had turned their heads down in deep thoughts, but one after the other, they said....
"I will do it!"
And what this tag game was about was, heading towards the police station.
As the first ray of morning light came up, lightening up the surface, Eve slipped into a taxi. It was a Saturday morning, so she was in a casual, short silk skirt and jacket worn over a white crop top. She inhaled and exhaled as the taxi drove towards her destination — the South City Police station — and her eyes stayed on the blank screen of the SOS watch around her wrist, fingers hovering on the button.
’I only press this...when I sight those guys,’ she thought. Then exhaled, "Let’s do this!"
Meanwhile, the taxi driver peeped at her from the mirror and a gentle smirk played on his face.
He asked, "Is everything alright, Miss?"
Eve blinked twice first, not that it was not normal for taxi drivers to be as conversational as possible.... But it was just because of a strange feeling she got.
She replied with a forced smile, "Yea, sir. I am fine." He had grey beards so he was definitely in his 40s.
The man smirked again. Running one hand in his pocket, he raised his brows and replied, "Well, you won’t be safe any longer."
Eve blinked. "What?"
The car suddenly pulled over. Maybe because of the silly talk she had engaged in or her anxiety, she hadn’t kept watch on where they were headed. This was in no way along the South City Police station!
It was a lone, desolate place that seemed like a construction site!
"What the fuck is going on!"
No response. Just a wide grin.
Then instantly, she grabbed the door knob and stomped outside..
Just as she was about to turn and run for her life, someone closed in from behind and hit the back of her neck.
As Eve thrashed on the ground, about to exhaust her last bit of consciousness.... She just hoped she could press the SOS button.
But... She couldn’t.
