A Reaper's Philosophy-Chapter 60: Beast

"I’ll take you all on!" Axelia shouted as she took a stance, ready to fight.

She held a dagger on each hand.

A white-smoked grey wolf then pounced on her. She then swung her dagger forward, cutting the beast in half.

The two halves of the beast’s body then dropped to the floor in silence. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝚠𝚎𝚋𝗻𝗼𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝚘𝐦

’There was no resistance when I cut it down.’ Axelia thought to herself. The two halves then turned into thick white smoke and became one, bringing the wolf back whole again.

"The fuck!" Axelia exclaimed out loud.

Three more wolves then charged at her. She swiftly cut each of them down, but their wounds merged back together like smoke. Ten wolves quickly followed after, and they too were cut down. Unfortunately, like the others, they didn’t stay down.

Axelia was now surrounded by 14 wolves and more kept coming from behind the trees.

"Fuck this!" Axelia said out loud then jumped up between the trees and made a quick escape.

The wolves tried to chase after her, but Axelia was much faster than them. As she continued to run away, her wounds slowly began to heal. She continued on and cut down different beasts on the way.

After hours of killing the beasts, Axelia suddenly came to a halt on top of a branch. Her body stood as stiff as a rock, afraid to even look up. Cold sweat began to drop from her forehead as her hands shook uncontrollably. She gritted her teeth and finally decided to look up. She saw the body of a giant white snake, a couple of thousand meters from where she stood. It casually slid through the trees, bringing hundreds of them down.

She then looked to her left then to her right, but couldn’t see either end of the snake’s body. The snake’s body was as big as a mountain. One could have seen it tens of thousands of miles away if it weren’t for the thick ocean of trees blocking the view. To the snake however, passing through the trees felt like passing through grass.

In front of the body was a name highlighted in blue:

Axelia involuntarily fell from the branch and crashed to the ground. She quickly began to gasp for air. She looked at the snake for too long, just its presence gave her a feeling of suffocation. She then struggled to get up and began to sprint towards the opposite direction. The further she went, the more relief she felt.

After some time, she felt like she was at a good enough distance. She suddenly stopped and stood in silence for a couple of seconds.

"AAAAAHHH!!! WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS PLACE?" Axelia screamed out in frustration.

She then took in a long deep breath, then slowly exhaled.

’I need to get back to master, but I don’t feel my connection with him at all. What is this place? I don’t know if master can hold out for another 24h!’ Axelia began to think.

’Please hold on a little longer master.’ Axelia thought then continued to run forward.

Each beast that she came across, she easily cut down. So long as it wasn’t the wolves, who strangely, couldn’t take damage, or that White Demon Snake, she cut her opponents down with one strike.

She suddenly spotted a grey wolf, excreting white smoke, beginning to chase her. After a little while, another 5 grey wolves came out from the side and chased her as well.

’These guys are relentless!’ Axelia thought as she picked up her pace.

She then suddenly bumped into a White-Smoked Black Wolf from the front, which took her by surprise.

’Why couldn’t I sense them coming?’ Axelia thought.

The black wolf suddenly bit into Axelia’s shoulder with its sharp fangs, drawing heavy black blood from her body.

"NRR!" Axelia groaned in pain then swung her dagger upward to swiftly slice off the wolf’s head.

Blood went spraying everywhere as its body dropped to the ground, but the head remained stuck on Axelia’s shoulder.

’It died!’ Axelia exclaimed in her head. ’What was different this time?" Axelia began to think.

She then stopped running and turned to face her pursuers. She quickly widened the mouth of the wolf head on her shoulder to take it out then ripped it in half with her bare hands. She conjured and gripped her daggers tightly, as 6 grey wolves pounced on her at the same time.

At this moment, time around her felt like it was slowing down as she heightened her senses to the max. At her speed, it was almost like the wolves weren’t moving at all. The moment the wolves made contact with her skin, she drove a dagger right through their skull.

In no time at all, all of the 6 wolves’ bodies dropped to the floor and remained unmoving.

"I see. The moment they attack is also the moment their bodies are most vulnerable." Axelia said out loud.

Black and grey wolves then started to come out from behind the trees with their fangs out, growling in anger after I cut down 7 of their own.

"You must be gifted hunters. I couldn’t sense your presence at all!" Axelia praised as all the wolves charged at her.

"Come at me!" Axelia shouted aloud then began to go on a killing spree....

Axelia now stood on top of a mountain of wolf corpses, looking up at the sky. Her entire body was covered in blood, as she breathed heavily. She eventually dropped from the pile of corpses and went to sit beneath a tree. She then slowly began to doze off...

3 red wolves with holes on their backs began to approach Axelia. Black smoke came out of the holes, giving them a more dominating look. Axelia then suddenly got up after hearing the wolves approaching. Names highlighted in green appeared in front of the beasts.

"Just let me sleep!" Axelia said aloud in a whiny voice.

She quickly conjured a dagger on each of her hands then sprinted forward. She was planning on cutting them down quickly then go back to sleep.

The beasts then suddenly met Axelia halfway before she could even reach them. This took her by surprise.

’These wolves are much faster than the others!’ Axelia thought.

One of the wolves then swung their claws at Axelia’s stomach.

Before the claws could penetrate her skin, she quick stabbed at the wolf’s head with her dagger. However, only a few centimeters of the dagger sunk into the wolf’s skin.

Axelia then quickly jumped back to just barely dodge the attack, but not without receiving three claw marks on her stomach. Luckily, the claws didn’t dig deep enough to inflict a fatal wound.

"Their skin is so tough!" Axelia exclaimed.

The wolves then pounced on her together. All she could do was dodge their attacks. She struck them many times, but the daggers couldn’t even get through their skin.

After some time, cracks, eventually, began to appear all around the daggers. Only shallow scratch marks could be seen on the wolves’ skin. Those scratches were basically nothing to them.

Unfortunately, Axelia wasn’t faring as well. Apart from the cracked daggers, bloody wounds could be seen all over her body. Just when the situation began to look dire...

(Snap!)

One of the daggers finally snapped in two as she tried stabbing into the wolf again.

"Fuck it!" Axelia said then threw away both daggers to the side.

She then charged at one of the wolves that was about to bite her and grabbed its jaw.

She then pulled back its head till its neck snapped.

The two remaining wolves then slowly backed away in fear till they went out of view behind the trees.

"Yeah, that’s right. You don’t want this smoke!" Axelia shouted confidently.

A beast stared straight into Axelia’s soul from afar. Suddenly, Axelia felt a chill all over her body. She slowly turned around, her entire body shook uncontrollably. She now saw a giant white wolf, with deep blue eyes, staring at her in the far distance.

Thick black smoke rose from the holes in the wolf’s back and storm clouds seemed to form above the wolf wherever it went.

She now realized why the red wolves backed away. Clearly, it wasn’t because of her.

In an instant, the wolf appeared before her. It seemed to command space itself. It looked down at her, like how one would look at an annoying bug. Axelia then involuntarily dropped to her knees as she looked at the white wolf incredulously.

Tears began to come out of her eyes as she struggled to breathe. Seeing the beast in full view, it was more than Axelia could take. It was bigger in size than even the White Demon Snake. A name highlighted in red appeared in front of the beast, but it was blurred.

Axelia suddenly puked out a mouthful of black blood. The energy the wolf gave off was so pure, yet also, so violent. It was unlike anything she had felt before.

This was worse than what she felt from the giant white snake. She felt like just the thought of going against this beast would erase her existence. In the face of this beast, even her loyalties wavered. She felt like she was presently beneath her master.

’No! I’d rather die!’ She exclaimed in her head.

The beast then leaned closer to Axelia till it was directly in front of her face. Axelia then closed her eyes, ready to accept death.
