A Reaper's Philosophy-Chapter 79: Inheritances
An aura of a Heavenly Beast suppressed every living being on the battlefield.
(GRAAAAARRR)
The Four-Armed Scaled Caracal Mutant let out a powerful roar. All at once, all of the elites of the Golden City began to drop to the ground, and Evgenis and Elda were no exceptions. Evgenis began to feel lightheaded before taking a knee. She felt herself lose power and could no longer stand up.
Elda also felt light headed and found it impossible to stand back up. Her body wanted to collapse right then and there and go into a deep sleep, but she felt like if she collapsed now, her and everyone else in the city would surely die.
’A soul attack!’ Evgenis exclaimed in her head.
Apart from their insane destructive force and powerful vitality, Heavenly Beasts are also known for their monstrous soul power.
Heavenly Beasts, with their increased intelligence, are capable of learning skills just like hosts. If one was to acquire an attack type, soul based technique, they would prove to be an unrivaled opponent to anyone below the heavenly realm. Even some Heavenly Beasts could become victims of such attacks if their soul power is too weak.
Luckily, this beast seemed to have only recently broken through to the Heavenly Realm and the attack was only meant to suppress the soul and not necessarily injure it. Everyone around would have died otherwise. It wouldn’t have been possible for Elda and Evgenis to remain conscious.
Evgenis then looked at Grayson and Azrael and saw they were still standing and looked completely unaffected.
"How!" Evgenis exclaimed as she looked at them with shock.
Unbeknownst to Evgenis, Grayson was still a reaper. Naturally, reapers are gifted with monstrous soul power from the start and this level of attack was nothing to Grayson. Azrael was also unaffected, being a shadow, he never had a soul to begin with. They were the perfect opponents for the Four-Armed Scaled Caracal Mutant.
The Four-Armed Scaled Caracal Mutant was now completely healed and didn’t waste any time to attack Grayson and Azrael. In an instant it was right in front of Grayson. The beast swiftly sent a punch forward. Grayson, instinctively, raised his hands to defend himself.
Grayson was suddenly sent flying 20 feet away. He twisted his body in the air managed to plant his feet firmly on the ground, causing him to skid back quite a distance. The beast then slapped Azrael away, as though swatting a fly.
Azrael blocked the attack with his sword and was also sent flying. As soon as Grayson recovered from the punch, he charged at the beast with a scythe in hand. Grayson’s speed was only slightly less than the beast’s and was able to quickly get around it. He then attacked the beast’s ankles.
The beast swiftly dropped to its knees. However, the wounds healed almost instantaniously. Azrael then slashed at the beast’s chest dozens of times and created numerous bloody wounds. The wounds then instantly began to heal right after.
"DEATH!" Grayson shouted aloud.
Death then rushed towards the beast in its cloud form and got inside its wound just before it completely closed up. The poisonous dark cloud went straight into the beast’s heart and spread throughout its body.
Whilst this was happening, the rest of the beasts quickly ran back to aid their leader. Azrael once again stabbed his sword into the ground. This time, however, the sword slowly released a dark cloud within its transparent patterns.
The cloud expanded to a diameter of 50 m, with the sword at the center. Many beast that entered it’s range became petrified, whilst others rotted away. They were completely cut off from going to help their leader.
A few of them realized the sword was the cause of this, and tried to attack it from afar. Their attacks were then absorbed and redirected back at them. Nothing they did could break the barrier. They could only stand back and watch.
The beast now had Death inside of it and Azrael’s sword eating away its flesh and soul within the barrier. Even with its incredible vitality, the beast could not fend off the millions of poisons now running through its veins. It slowly began to decay from the inside and out.
{You have killed a Heavenly Beast: Four-Armed Scaled Caracal Mutant.}
The beast then dropped to the ground and slowly began to turn to dust. A red beast core lay buried at the center of it. Azrael’s poisons were still taking effect, eventually, the entire beast would turn to dust.
Grayson felt regrettful as this was a waist of some quality flesh. If he were to eat the flesh of a Heavenly Beast, both is body and force of exousia was sure to improve. Azrael and Death could finally rest within Grayson’s cloud after their hard fought battle. As soon as the heavenly beast died, the soldiers began to wake up.
The soul technique had lost its effect, upon the beast’s death. Evgenis managed to witness the battle right as she was losing consciousness.
"I can’t believe it!" Evgenis exclaimed out loud.
All the elites of the Golden City were finally waking up all around the battlefield. With the Heavenly Beast dead, the rest of the beasts were left in disarray. Most of them began to flee whilst the others instinctively attacked the elites nearby. All in all, they were no longer a threat.
The few beasts nearby quickly began to charge towards the city. Without Death’s cloud blocking their path, they could easily get into the city now.
At this moment, a green barrier suddenly covered the entire Golden City like a dome. The beasts that were charging towards the city crashed into the barrier, injuring many of them and even killing some.
"Only beasts are blocked by the barrier...the rest of you can pass as you please." Elda said in between breaths.
Her entire body was covered in sweat, she looked like she was about to collapse.
"Finish them off!" Evgenis shouted.
The elites of the Golden City were quick to act, In just a short moment, the hundreds of stray beasts were wiped out. Unfortunately, many of them had long fled.
Grayson was now walking back to where Elda and Evgenis were.
"Where is that armored fellow and your pet beast?" Evgenis asked about Azrael and Death meeting with Grayson.
"Death is exhausted and Azrael felt something off with his body. They are both recuperating within me." Grayson answered.
"Within you?" Evgenis asked with a perplexed look.
Grayson didn’t bother to explain, so Evgenis didn’t push for an explanation either. Grayson then faced Elda, who was knelt on the ground from exhaustion.
"Mission accomplished." Grayson said to Elda with a smirk.
"Yes, it seems so unreal. Maybe I actually died and am hallucinating?" Elda said in a daze.
"It’s no hallucination. We won!" Grayson said with a smile as he stretched out his hand to pick up Elda.
Elda had nearly depleted her exousia creating the protective array and was incapable of walking on her own. Grayson then picked her up and carried her on his back.
(YAAAAAA!!!)
Victorious roars sounded all around the battlefield from the elites of the Golden City. They quickly began to plunder the beast cores from within the beasts, collecting the spoils of war. The process was swift and coordinated, they all seemed to be experienced in doing this.
"Please come with me to our sect so we can properly thank you for saving our city. We will have a feast in your name." Evgenis said admiringly.
Her opinion of Grayson had now completely changed and was now replaced with total admiration.
"No thank you, I’m in a rush. Just the reward is fine." Grayson said.
Elda then led them back to the sect and into the spacious hall. 3 seats were at the end of the hall with two elders seated on two of them.
Evgenis then approached the two men seated at the end of the hall and introduced Grayson and Elda. She then proceeded to tell the two of what Grayson and Elda had done for the sect.
...
"Whatever agreement you made with these hosts has nothing to do with us. By tomorrow, they are no longer welcome here." The elder said then jugged a bottle of alcohol to the last drop.
"Loserian, they risked their lives to protect our city, we need to show our gratitude and properly thank them!" Evgenis said feeling frustrated.
"If they want gratitude they can help themselves to the brothels around the city. However, they will get nothing from us." Loserian said.
Grayson then approached Evgenis and said, "It’s fine, I’ve already gotten what I came for, the reward was just a bonus."
"...but without you, the Golden City would have fallen." Evgenis said in frustration.
"I had my own reasons to save your city, don’t worry about it." Grayson said then walked away.
"Hold on, we can’t just leave like this! We risked our lives for these people!" Elda exclaimed. Grayson then held her shoulder then warped with Elda out of the city.
{Cloud Warp: 4/12}
{Cooldown time: 16:24:01}
{You will recover 1 warp every 2 hours.}
’Only four left, I should make them count.’ Grayson thought to himself. "What the-, where are we?" Elda asked in shock.
"The outskirts of the Golden City." Grayson said.
"Why? What about the reward!" Elda exclaimed.
"I got what I came for." Grayson said.
"WHO GIVES A FUCK ABOUT WHAT YOU CAME FOR? I haven’t slept for three days busting my ass for this-
"Elda-," Grayson said interruptedly.
"NO! YOU WILL SHUT UP AND LISTEN! I busted my ass for these god forsaken, shit stained people with pride as big as the cocks they swallowed to earn their wealth, for three days! THREE DAYS! I haven’t slept, crafting that array.
Do you know what that means...? I haven’t showered for 3 bloody days! So, you will do whatever the fuck you just did and take me back to that bitch. I want my electrum!" Elda spoke with rage, grabbed Grayson’s hand and turned to lead him back to the city.
Upon turning, she finally saw Evgenis who had been standing behind her the whole time. Being someone who practiced Gold Manifestation to the final level, she was an expert in the laws of space and was easily able to follow them.
"I had no intention of letting you leave empty handed." Evgenis said then pulled out two big bags of electrum from a pocket dimension.
"Spatial ring!" Elda couldn’t help exclaiming.
Spatial rings are a rare treasure that can only be crafted by high ranking Heavenly Hosts and deities. Just a single spatial ring, with a measly 5m diameter in space, can go for at least 20 million electrum.
"There is 5 million electrum in each bag. This was all I could gather on my own, I know it’s not much..." Evgenis said.
Elda looked at the two bags with greed in her eyes. Like a beast ready to snatch its prey.
"Which is why I am going to give you these as well." Evgenis added then pulled out two golden tablets with runes on them that gave off a divine presence.
"These are inheritances!" Elda exclaimed.
