A Reaper's Philosophy-Chapter 89: Plummet; Seal; Fall; Sleep; Soul; Kneel
Grayson quickly realized his efforts were useless! The grimme that was once seated, opened his eyes and stood up. His eyes had no pupils and were pure black. He had no mouth, but a black hole spiraled beneath his throat.
As soon as he got up, he appeared above the mountain. His speed seemed immeasurable, nobody noticed him floating above.
"Plummet!" A commanding voice echoed throughout the mountain.
Immediately after, Lilith fell from the sky and nearly dropped to her knees. Grayson already had one knee to the ground.
"What just happened!" Grayson exclaimed.
He felt a foreign power invade his body and force him to kneel. He tried to get up, but found it incredibly hard to do so. Lilith stood where she was and looked above staring at the black-eyed grimme. She circulated her power as a bright white light, brimming with life energy, radiated from her body.
"Seal!" The black eyed grimme spoke again.
Lilith’s power was immediately sealed. She couldn’t counter the black eyed grimmes commands.
"Fall!" The black eyed grimme commanded.
The power seemed to only affect Grayson and Lilith as the other grimmes stood by and watched.
’He’s attacking our souls!’ Grayson thought.
Despite the command, both Grayson and Lilith refused to fall. They had incredibly resiliant souls and a high mental energy. Nonetheless, Grayson was now drenched in sweat as he circulated his dark cloud to try and counter the foreign power invading him. Death was also fighting back the power from within Grayson. All of these combined allowed Grayson to gain some relief.
He then looked at Lilith and for the first time, Lilith could be seen exerting a considerable amount of strength to fight back. Cold sweat began to drip from her forhead as well.
"Such strong wills!" The 7-foot grimme praised.
The black-eyed grimme then floated down towards Grayson and Lilith. He clenched his fist and punched Grayson. His attack wasn’t just an ordinary punch, it carried a command within it.
"Sleep!" The voice echoed once more upon impact.
Grayson was no longer able to block the power. It completely shattered his defense! He immediately fell back and slept. Both him and Death as well. Lilith tried to move as she slowly reached out her arm. She was going for the grimme’s throat.
For a moment, the grimme was surprised. The spiral beneath his throat spun faster and shifted to his chest, where a human’s heart would be.
Seeing this, the other grimmes panicked. The light and dark grimme quickly enshrouded them into a separate space using her shadow powers. As the black-eyed grimme clenched his fist once more, Lilith’s hand suddenly burst forward with sonic booms falling behind it. Life energy began flowing into her from all her surroundings. She was going for the kill.
Everything went silent. The other grimmes had just made it into the separate space, before a domineering voice sounded as though it came from the heavens!
(FALL!!)
The entire mountain and everything within 15m was flatened. That was the range of his power. It was an unbelievable sight. Lilith dropped a knee, but did not fall! She continued to absorb whatever life energy was left from her surroundings and tried to get back up again.
By now, the floating spherical shadow that enshrouded the other grimmes, had a crack on it. The other grimmes had to pour their energy into the light and dark grimme in order to heal the cracks.
The black-eyed grimme looked at them questionably.
"Haha, are you also wondering why they are so well organized to counter your attacks?" Lilith said laughing.
The grimme then looked at Lilith, but did not speak.
"What’s this cowardly power anyways, too afraid to get up close and personal?" Lilith asked trying to buy time and maybe find a weakness.
The grimmed floated down to Lilith and was right before her face. Lilith tried to attack him, but was unable to move. The power felt unbeatable now. It was like the closer he got to Lilith the stronger the effect on her.
He then stretched his hand out to the side.
(SOUL!!)
A voice boomed from everywhere. Thunder began to rumble and the ground shook as a blue firey phoenix flew out of the black-eyed grimme’s hand. It was a Mythical Beast!
Lilith stared with genuine shock.
"Sleep!" The voice sounded again.
Lilith had put down her guard for only a moment and was too late to counter the power, especially now that the grimme was so close. She finally fell forward and slept. The grimme caught her before she fell. The black hole that was on his chest, swiftly, shifted back to his throat. He then disappeared.
The other grimmes finally came out of the separate space. They barely managed to block his power with their combined might. The gravity manipulating grimme slowly walked up to Grayson and lifted him in the air. She then floated back to the North with the other grimmes.
...
A few hours had passed before Grayson woke up.
"Grnn..." Grayson groaned as he woke up from his slumber.
"So you’re finally up...!" A man who looked like he was in his 30s said to Grayson. Although he looked somewhat young, Grayson could see he was over 100 years old. The man extended his hand towards Grayson.
Grayson looked around, but was unaware of his surroundings. Before him, he saw a tall man dressed in ragged clothes reaching out his arm. He instinctively took his hand and stood up.
"What’s your name son, and what did you do to attract the attention of so many grimmes!" The man asked.
Grayson didn’t pay the question any mind and continued to look around.
"Where’s Lilith?" Grayson asked the man.
He saw many people around, but none of them were who he was searching for.
"Who’s Lilith?" The ragged man asked.
"The tailed woman I was with. Have you seen her?" Grayson asked.
"You appeared here alone. No one else was with you," the man said.
With clenched fists, Grayson whispered, "Those bastards took my woman!"
This didn’t escape the ragged man’s ears and wasn’t surprised to hear Grayson say this.
"If you can’t protect it, it was never yours in the first place!" The man said bluntly. It sounded almost scripted.
Hosts have a straightforward mind and live by the rules they set for themselves. One had to be like this in order to progress in the path they choose to follow. All this was for the purpose of strength. Strength to never be opposed, live by your own rules, and have the ability to impose it on others. That was the goal of every host. If one fails to protect what they believed to be theirs, then they simply chose the wrong path or were a stepping stone to someone else’s path.
It was a cruel world they lived in. If one did not have the strength to dominate, then it was only a matter of time before someone comes and dominates them.
Grayson didn’t take what he said to heart. He knew to some extent he was right. He wasn’t able to protect Lilith and that was a fact.
"Doesn’t matter, she can take care of herself. I need to get out of here," Grayson said.
Grayson looked around and saw he was surrounded by white clouds in all direction, with runes glowing on them.
"Are we trapped in here?" Grayson asked.
"You think we are all clumped in here for fun?" The swordsman asked sarcastically. 𝘧𝓇ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝘣𝓃ℴ𝓋𝑒𝑙.𝑐𝘰𝑚
Grayson then observed everyone in there and could sense that they were all powerful hosts. The weakest one there was a Legendary Host. Everyone else was a Heavenly Host, including the ragged man. Everyone was surprised to see Grayson there.
"I was sent over by the Hardnon Sect to resolve the situation here...," Grayson said and everyone in the room began to laugh.
He ignored their laughs and asked, "What happened to you all? How were the grimmes able to take over The North?"
The room they were in was only half the size of a football field and everyone there had ears good enough to hear a mouse screech from miles away. Everyone heard the question, but no one answered. It was suddenly silent.
"It happened faster than I care to admit." The ragged man said, breaking the silence.
"There were 24 white grimmes that attacked The North. They somehow slipped through our senses and even infiltrated our ranks. Before we knew it, we were under siege from within our own walls. They slowly weakened our defenses then finally wreaked havoc in our city. One of the grimmes had a powerful mental energy and greatly weakened our forces with a mental pressure. Even Heavenly Hosts, like myself, were affected.
The grimme was slender and tall. He always had a smile on his face, but did not speak. Even then, his power spoke volumes. He easily suppressed most of us and took over the minds of every beast in The North.
As you may already know, The North is famous for it’s beast tamers. Many even have Heavenly Beasts under their control. You can only imagine the kind of destruction they caused. Between fighting the grimmes, fighting the beasts, and saving the ordinary folk, our forces were stretched thin. We Heavenly Hosts tried to hold off the grimmes whilst those in the lower realms dealt with the beasts and ordinary folk.
The smiling slender grimme suppressed us and we were only able to use half of our power within the rules of his world. Even with our powers suppressed we were still able to fight them off. The slender looking grimme stood in the sidelines, unapproachable. Anyone who tried to do so would start going insane and attacked their allies. Even we were not immune to this.
Each time someone came to attack, the slender looking grimm laughed as if to mock us. Nonetheless, we stood our ground. We were hosts of The North and slowly, but surely, we began getting the upper hand.
14 of the 23 grimmes that were seen attacking were put out of commission. Grimmes are tough bastards to kill so it’s easier to seal them. Rune Masters were kept on standby to use sealing arrays, as soon as a grimme was incapacitated.
We were steadily turning the tide...until, that black eyed grimme showed up. With one word, everything stood still. Friend and foe did as that bastard said!" The ragged man said as a powerful aura began to radiate from his body.
The aura was sharp, and was painful to even look at. Grayson suddenly got the feeling as though he was no longer looking at a man, but a sword.
"Kneel! That’s all it took!" The ragged man said as he punched the ground.
Grayson expected there to be a loud explosion or the ground to crack, something. However, the impact was silent. Not even dust flew.
As Grayson pondered this, different auras of similar strength began radiating all around the room. It seemed many of them shared the ragged man’s frustration.
"Stop, you’re only speeding up the process." A woman sitting at the center of the room said, opening her eyes. A pair of deep scarlett eyes stared at Grayson.
