A Single Mother's Farm of the Gods-Chapter 453: To the Hundredth Floor [V]
Chapter 453: To the Hundredth Floor [V]
"Are you sure you are now okay, Raye? We can still extend your resting time if you still feel bad right now," Elaina is making sure Raye is not feeling under the weather and is in good condition before they continue.
"Yes, Mom. The potion you gave me works wonders. The pain has numbed quite a lot, and by the time I woke up again, the pain was finally gone."
"Good to know. Who knows what enemies are waiting for us deeper into the mines?"
"Ah, Mom, I think something seems to have changed, and some knowledge seems to appear in my mind. I don’t know where this knowledge came from, but it seems this knowledge is related to my own identity as a Devil child. I am still trying to make sense of this new knowledge myself."
Elaina is surprised. So the entity indeed released something that allowed Raye to know things related to the Devil race. She isn’t sure what she implanted on his mind, but she hopes it was nothing troublesome and it doesn’t cause significant problems.
"Am I going to be worried about this?" Elaina is worried about the changes that Raye might undergo.
"Thankfully, none aside from my combat ability and how freely I can use my capabilities as a Devil child. I can also partially use my ability to strengthen my abilities and apply them to my prowess. But like I said before, Mom, I am still sorting out these new memories, and if I learn more, I will tell you firsthand."
Arthur is ecstatic about this change, though. "Raye, once we are back home, how about we spar? We can try to see the changes in your prowess and I also wanted to test how strong you have become after that!"
"You are always on, Arthur!" Raye grinned.
"Ugh, you boys are all just about fighting here and there. Come on, let’s get going."
Elaina smiled and sighed. Now that the problem she thought would remain has been solved, it is time to progress their expedition.
...
...
...
Contrary to Elaina’s expectation, the monsters in the deeper part of the mines aren’t as hard as she thought they would be. The monsters that are added to the fray are Pigmen this time around. Although they are called Pigmen, they aren’t really human in a sense; they are just like kobolds, but instead of a dog’s head, replace it with a pig. They are also a bit big, and according to some people, the pigmen can actually be eaten and be an alternative to pig meat, as their meat tastes the same.
But for Elaina and the others, even if it is edible meat, considering it is a humanlike monster, eating it would not be right for them. It is just like eating humans in a sense.
Of course, even with the addition of the pigmen in the fray, the monsters barely do anything, and they are not even that good at being a monster. In the end, they still died in the hands of the three children who didn’t even give Elaina any share of the action.
In the end, they are closing in on the 100th floor. However, it seems that this is the time when they have to be careful.
Upon descending to floor 91, the whole place is surrounded by greenery and also frozen areas. The place is also quite chilling, like they have entered a freezer.
"Looks like those plants that have a poison that can freeze anything and anyone it lands on are those green-looking vines with a corn-looking fruit." Adelaide readies her weapon and is also ready to attack in case the plants before her suddenly spit those poisons.
"I don’t understand why they are poison, aren’t those literal ice?" Arthur frowned.
"According to what the Grand Sage told me, the poison does the same damage that regular poison does to a human body; however, the freezing part is a bonus. The parts that got affected by the poison would slowly freeze, and by the time the poison spreads, the freezing effect also spreads," Elaina explained.
"Then we have to ensure we don’t get poisoned, should we burn them?" Adelaide asked.
"Nope. Getting rid of it is not easy, and burning doesn’t work. The only way to get it done is by cutting them down. And even with that, they are still dangerous since they can still shoot poison still but they aren’t dangerous anymore since they will only shoot once if they are cut down, but will halt any movement afterwards as it will effectively remain "harvested" in a sense."
"Still dangerous, Mother! If they can still shoot, then that also means you can still get poisoned even after you cut it down! We needed to be careful!" Raye is worried.
"Oh, I think I can help out on this one, Mother. Does attacking with magic work?" Adelaide asked.
Elaina nodded. "It does work. But what are you going to do?"
"Watch, Mom. Everyone, move away from me for a bit. Can’t afford to make friendly fire all of a sudden."
The three move farther from Adelaide, allowing Adelaide to release her attack freely without anyone included in the area. With the three already at a safe distance, she conjures her spell on her short sword. Putting her two fingers and running them on her sword, a gust of wind starts to appear on the sword’s surface, and she slowly spreads it on the short sword.
"Heh, seems like it is working."
After fully covering the blade of the sword with the gust of wind, Adelaide swings her sword horizontally in front of her. As soon as she swings her sword, blades of wind are released from her sword and mow down all the plants on the way. Perhaps because it was cut violently, the fruits start to shoot their infamous poison, hitting one another, which freezes these plants after getting their poison on one another.
"D-damn..." Arthur is speechless at Adelaide’s display of prowess.
"Nice. They are mowed in one go."
Elaina smiled, seeing how Adelaide used her new abilities and incorporated them with her sword mastery, allowing her to produce air blades. Elaina can technically do air blades, but unlike Adelaide, who has to cast a spell and imbue the sword with her magic to make it work, Elaina has to exert extra force to make those air blades. They are lethal, but unlike Adelaide’s air blades, her air blades cannot travel far and are short-ranged. It’s more like a surprise attack skill she developed herself that would serve as a range attack with her sword. She also doesn’t use it much as it takes a lot of power just to exert it.
"Good work, Ade. Is it taxing to do?" Elaina asked.
"Thankfully, it isn’t since I am using a medium to release the power and amplify it by adding force, allowing it to be sharp and cut through the plants."
Adelaide then looked at her twin and grinned. "Not all techniques require brute force; sometimes, a little sprinkle of magic also helps."
Arthur seems jealous of Adelaide’s new way of fighting, but since Arthur has yet to learn any magic spells, it is not going to work unless he also practices magic.
Leaving the children to bicker for a bit, Elaina approaches the plants slowly. She needed to ensure those same plants don’t start shooting the moment she gets close. She didn’t get to use the antidote, but it is better not to use it than to continue using it and endanger her life.
Once she had made sure that those same plants remained stationary and had now turned dormant, Elaina sighed in relief and examined the plants while wearing gloves to protect her hands in case the plants themselves were poisonous and she unknowingly touched them.
"God of Farming, do these plant stalks suffice? Or do I need to make sure they can still grow and be replanted?" Elaina asked.
"[Those stalks are fine. There is no need to force yourself to endanger your life by taking an uprooted poisonous plant like that. Best make sure you are safe.]"
Elaina nodded and stored the stalks that didn’t get frozen by the poison that was shot out earlier by the other stalks.
"[Can you also include those frozen stalks? I can research them and get a better comparison between the two.]"
"Sure."
Grabbing the frozen stalks, Elaina can feel the coldness of the frozen stalks penetrate her gloves. Just like regular ice, she can feel her skin feel the coldness of the ice. The difference with this ice and the regular ice, though, is that regular ice melts and produces water. This one, though...isn’t. It’s like that dry ice she has seen before being used in some alchemical products.
"How curious these things are. You discover many things every day."
Once she finished her gathering process, Elaina turned to look at the other stalks. Taking the powder that the Grand Sage had given to her before they left, she spread it over the stalks, causing the green stalks to wilt and die.
"Job done. Time to head deeper. We are getting close."
