A Wrong Surrogate for the CEO-Chapter 133: Happy
"I can’t believe the day is here at last. I think I’m going to cry," Lisa said as she sniffed, reaching up to wipe tears away from her eyes.
Laura smiled at her mother, and there was tears in her eyes too.
"I know, right? We missed the first wedding. And I never thought we would witness another one again, but here we are, at the forefront," she responded.
Lisa said nothing, only leaned over to hug her daughter. They stayed like that for several long moments, until the door opened.
Adrian, Curtis’s father, walked in.
"Come on, you guys. The guests are arriving. You guys need to be there, Lisa especially. I cannot greet the guests on my own."
Lisa rolled her eyes at her husband, disentangling from the hug.
"I just wanted a quiet moment with my daughter."
Adrian raised his eyebrows at her words. "Curtis is the one getting married, not Laura. Why is she the one you wanted a quiet moment with?"
Lisa responded with a long suffering sigh, and Adrian mirrored her action.
Laura slipped her hands into both of their arms, and smiled at her parents.
"There’s no time to be petty. Let us all go and see the groom before the ceremony starts. Then I’ll go and check up on Lara while you guys go back down to welcome the guests."
Adrian and Lisa agreed with Laura’s words, and together, they watched down the hall towards Curtis room.
Curtis was staring at the window with a solemn expression.
When the door opened and his family stepped in, he looked startled.
Lisa instantly strode over to hug him.
"Oh, my baby. I am so proud of you," she said, tears stinging the back of her eyes again.
Curtis held his mother, a small smile on his lips as he hugged her back. "Thank you, Mum."
Adrian gently peeled his wife away from Curtis. "You’re going to ruin his clothes by crying so much," he teased. Lisa blinked back tears, while Adrian turned to face his son.
"Curtis."
"Dad."
"Are you happy?" he asked. Curtis’s throat bobbed at the question. His expression softened, and he nodded.
"Yes. Yes I am."
Adrian nodded. "Good. That’s all that matters to me. As long as you’re happy, I am happy too."
Curtis stepped forward, his hand outstretched for an handshake with his father. But Adrian took one look at the outstretched hand, shook his head, and dragged his son into a bear hug.
"I have never been prouder. You are my son, through and through."
"Thank you, Father."
Laura cleared her throat and stepped forward.
"Enough of the hugs please. You guys need to get downstairs and welcome the guests. Everyone is waiting for you!" she ordered.
Lisa and Adrian exchanged amused glances, but said nothing as the stepped out. The door closed behind them, and Laura stepped forward as soon as it was just her and Curtis.
Curtis spoke first. "Laura. I cannot thank you enough, my love. You...you stood by me in my lowest moment, and I...I don’t know if I can ever repay you enough for everything you did."
There was a lump in Curtis’s throat as he stared at his sister, and Laura had to blink back tears.
She stepped closer and tilted her head back to hold his gaze. "You were so strong. And I am so proud of you. You went through a lot and you survived. And I am glad that you’re finally getting the ending that you deserve. A happy one. A fulfilled one."
There was a sheen in Curtis’s eyes at his sister’s words. Without another word, he stepped even closer and dragged her into a hug.
"Thank you, Laura. I love you so much."
Laura’s hands wrapped around her brother very tightly, and she sniffed as she responded.
"I love you too, Curtis. You’re the best brother anyone could ever ask for. In this lifetime and the next, I’ll always choose you as my Brother."
The siblings stood like that for several long moments, until it was time for Curtis to go and get married.

"Oh my God. Oh my God oh my God oh my God. I am ruining everything," Lara sobbed, tears streaming down her face in torrents.
Kayla stood before her, and her hand were on Lara’s shoulders.
"Breathe, baby. You need to breath," she said, but it was hard for Lara to breath. Her chest was tight, and it was practically impossible for her to inhale air.
"I can’t. What if...what if I mess up? What if I walk in there and he sees me and he decides to change his mind? What if he wants to leave me?"
She was sobbing violently now, and Kayla’s heart was racing as she stared at Lara. Lara had been freaking out about the entire wedding for a while now, and even though Kayla had tried to calm her down, she could not.
The door opened, and Laura stepped in.
She took one look at Lara, who was a mess, and at Kayla who was close to panicking, then she walked back out.
Laura knew that Lara was having second thoughts, and she was well aware of the fact that nothing was going to calm her down. 𝒻𝘳ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝒷𝘯ℴ𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝑐ℴ𝑚
Nothing, except her husband.
By the time Curtis stormed into Lara’s dressing room, Lara was close to hyperventilating. Kayla was relieved to see him, and she instantly moved away to give them space.
Curtis leaned down to stare at Lara.
"Look at me, baby," he said softly. Lara raised her head to stare at him. Her makeup was ruined, and she looked like a mess.
But Curtis had never seen a more beautiful sight. Very slowly, he leaned in to kiss her on the forehead.
"Breathe, my love. Follow my cue and breathe."
And then, very slowly, he was able to coax her into breathing.
When she was composed enough, he held her face.
"What is wrong, my love?" he asked. Lara swallowed past a lump in her throat before she spoke.
"I’m scared."
That was all she said. She didn’t have to say anything else, and Curtis understood.
"Listen to me, there is absolutely nothing to be scared of. I love you so fucking much, and nothing is ever going to make me stop loving you. You are the absolute love of my life. I love you. Nothing is going to change that. You and I, we are going to stay together forever. I love you, baby. You have absolutely nothing to be scared of."
Lara held his gaze, lips trembling. "Promise?"
Curtis nodded. "Promise."
She nodded shakily. "Okay."
"Good. Now stop crying. Fix your makeup, and let’s go get married."
