A Wrong Surrogate for the CEO-Chapter 38: For the babies
Lara woke up to the sound of someone yelling.
Her brows furrowed into a frown as she tried to figure out what was going on and why such a loud noise was being made.
Blinking her eyes open wearily, Lara yawned as she sat up. She had slept well, which was surprising considering how much of a ruckus she caused mere hours ago.
Now that she wasn’t too emotional to figure out her feelings, a wave of gratitude slammed into her. She felt grateful to Curtis for providing every single thing she asked for.
He didn’t care that it was in the middle of the night. He got her every single craving she wanted.
And he stayed. He didn’t leave even when Lara started throwing a bigger tantrum. Curtis waited in the room with her even when she started throwing stuff at him, yelling at him to leave.
He stayed.
And that realization made her heart warm. She really should find him and say thank you.
But then, all of those things that he did, he didn’t do it for her, right?
It was for the babies. Knowing Curtis, Lara was sure that even if she was dying, he wouldn’t bat an eyelid.
So obviously, him staying with her was for the kids. She should do well to remember that.
That wasn’t going to stop her from saying thank you though. Regardless of his reason, he was still there for her.
And that was enough.
Lara had just managed to pull herself into a standing position when the door burst open.
It wasn’t Curtis. And it sure wasn’t her nanny.
The lady that stormed towards Lara with fury in her eyes was Amanda, the woman Curtis’ mother wanted her son to get married to.
"What do you think you’re doing here, you bitch?" Amanda yelled, and Lara had to take a step away from her.
The actress looked crazy. Her eyes were wide and had a weird, dangerous gleam in them. She was dressed elegantly, of course, but she looked like she had run her hands through her hair several times.
And that gave her a disheveled, ugly look.
Lara looked to the door, hoping that her husband was going to walk in and stop this woman before something drastic happened.
But Curtis was nowhere to be found, and Lara was at the mercy of a scorned woman.
Amanda sneered at Lara and stepped closer.
"I asked you a question, you stupid, ugly bat. What exactly do you think you’re doing here?" she asked again.
Lara crossed her arms on her chest and cocked her head to the side.
"I am in my husband’s house, Amanda. I think I am the one who should be asking that question," she responded calmly.
Amanda laughed, a wild crazy sound that made her look even crazier.
"You think I don’t know what’s going on? I do! I fucking do! And I know all of these are lies. Curtis is not in love with you. You guys are not a real couple! Everything is a lie," she snapped.
Lara’s heart started to pound.
What the hell? Was this woman making a wild guess or was she really aware of the fact that the marriage between them was a contract marriage?
It didn’t matter though. Lara wasn’t going to give this woman even the smallest sliver of doubt.
"You know, you really are a very good actress. It’s so... amazing. I mean, you almost made me believe a lie. That’s so... wow. You’re so talented," she said, her words slightly condescending as she clapped for Amanda.
The other woman scoffed.
"You think this is a joke, don’t you? You think I came here to lie? To play? Listen to me carefully, you skinny stupid woman. I know what you are. You’re nothing but a liar and a gold digger. You’re just here for his money, is that not so? Shame has nothing on you, obviously."
Lara eyed Amanda, not shaken by her words. She was pretty sure that the other woman was just grasping at straws.
"I don’t have time for whatever drama you’re playing right now, please. Get out of my way. Or don’t. You can just wait here for Curtis to find you. I’m not sure if you’ll like what he will do to you though," Lara stated lightly.
She was about to walk away when Amanda grabbed her wrist and dragged her back.
"Curtis will do nothing to me. You’ll see. He will come to his senses sooner rather than later and see that I am the one meant for him. You’re just a temporary slut warming his bed for money," she spat.
And Lara’s eyes narrowed in anger.
Before she could stop herself, she yanked her hand away from Amanda’s grip and slapped the woman.
Hard.
Amanda’s gasp echoed in the room.
Lara stepped closer. "Don’t you ever, in your entire miserable life, refer to me as a slut again," she growled.
Amanda lifted red eyes to her.
"You slapped me?" her voice echoed with disbelief. "How dare..." she started to speak, but Lara interrupted her words by slapping her on the other cheek again.
Amanda, who had had enough, raised her hand and slapped Lara back.
Unfortunately for her, Curtis walked in right at that moment.
And he lost all sense of reasoning.
He rushed over to Lara and immediately bent over her, his hands caressing the spot where she was slapped.
"I’m so sorry. Oh my goodness. I am so sorry. Are you okay? Are you hurt? Did she do anything else to you?" he asked, frantic and worried about her.
Lara told him that she was fine.
Curtis gently led her to sit at the edge of the bed and turned back to face Amanda.
"How dare you?"
His voice was cold and hard, dangerous with an edge. Amanda took a step back, suddenly scared of him and how enraged he looked at that moment.
"You touched my wife," he said again. It was not a question, his words. It was an affirmation.
Amanda started to tremble.
"I will make you pay for what you just did. You will suffer, and you will regret ever walking into my house. By the time I am done with you, Amanda, any time you hear my name, you will run. I will shatter every single thing you care about. Your life. Your family. Your reputation. I will strip you of dignity and take away every...single...thing."
His words were delivered with a sharp precision that made even Lara shiver, and Amanda realised that she was in big trouble.
Without giving her a chance to speak, Curtis called for his bodyguard.
Lazarus Doe walked into the room. And Curtis ordered him to get Amanda arrested.
