Chapter 6: The black fox is cuter than expected

Luna was silent as we walked, her expression a mix of confusion and something else I couldn't quite place. When we entered the class again, she returned to her seat with a distracted air. I noticed that she seemed deep in thought, but decided to pay it no mind and waited until lunch.

I watched the clock tick down, trying to ignore the suspicion that everyone around us was staring. The room felt uncomfortably tense; even the students who usually ignored me seemed interested in Luna's presence. Whispers floated through the air, each one stinging like a tiny barb.

"Did you see that boy with her?"

"He's human, right?"

"Maybe she's using him—like a pet."

I tried my best to block them out.

Finally, the bell rang.

I quickly slipped out of the classroom, eager to escape the prying eyes and hushed voices. My feet carried me straight to the cafeteria, hoping to find Iris waiting at our usual table. But when I got there, her seat was empty, and no familiar face was holding my spot.

Trying not to feel too disappointed, I grabbed a standard combo meal and picked a spot a few seats away from a group of boys who were engrossed in loud conversation.

"Man, that new Fox girl is smoking hot," one of them said, admiration dripping from his voice.

"Right?" another chimed in. "Did you see her tail? It's massive!"

The first boy laughed. "And those hips, dude. She's like all curves."

"I'd love to have her," a third one added with a low whistle. "Bet she's wild."

They kept going, each comment sharper than the last. My appetite faded under the weight of their words.

"What about Iris?"

"Hard to say," one replied. "She's probably bigger up top, but the black one got that wild streak."

"Yeah," another agreed. "I like 'em bossy. She'd be a handful."

"No way," the first boy shot back. "Iris is crazy. Have you seen those tits bounce in gym class? It's close, but I'm going with her."

Another one agreed with that statement. "Iris is more unique as well. Have y'all seen her eyes? Each a different color, they're super pretty"

"You're not changing my mind dude. The black fox is better"

The others mulled it over, nodding as if they'd just settled the world's most important debate.

"50/50 split then?" one finally concluded.

They all laughed, leaving me feeling invisible and strangely relieved. At least they hadn't noticed I was in earshot.

Suddenly, the cafeteria fell silent, a familiar pressure rippling through the air. I glanced up to see Luna striding through the center of the room, her eyes darting keenly around and her ears twitching slightly, as if searching for something.

Her tail was still unfurled, its sleek black fur swaying with each step. Her voluptuous figure caused a stir; every movement sent her enormous bust bouncing and her round butt cheeks rolling, her curves so prominent it seemed almost impossible not to stare. It was clear she wasn't trying to be provocative—she just couldn't help it.

Then her golden eyes locked onto me.

Her ears perked up, and so did her wildly swinging tail. She looked almost pleased to have spotted me.

All eyes were on us as she made her way across the room, but this time, I didn't flinch under their scrutiny. By the time she reached my table, half the cafeteria was watching with open-mouths.

She quietly sat beside me, placing her food on the table. "Hello," she spoke in her normal tone, but it echoed loudly because the whole place was nothing but silence.

"Uh, hey," I managed to reply, aware of how intently everyone was watching.

Luna set into her lunch without a second glance at the crowd. It was like she didn't even notice their stares—or didn't care. Her ears twitched, catching every sound, but she focused entirely on her meal.

I picked at my food, still processing that she'd actually chosen to sit with me. "How's it going?" I asked, trying to act casual.

"Fine," she said between bites, not offering more.

Right, she wasn't the small talk type.

The room slowly returned to its usual murmur as students tore their eyes away from us and back to their own conversations. The noise level rose again, but I could still feel the weight of curiosity.

Luna paused, her eyes flicking up to meet mine with a sharp intensity. "Why do you sit alone?" she asked, genuinely curious.

I shrugged, trying to play it off. "Just how it usually is. People aren't really lining up to hang out with a human, you know?"

She considered my words, her gaze steady and unreadable. "They stare at me too," she said simply.

"It's annoying"

"Yeah, but for different reasons," I joked, taking a subtle glace at her abundant cleavage.

You could get lost in between those.

Her ears twitched again, but she didn't respond. She seemed deep in thought, as if weighing something important.

"They don't like you" she announced suddenly. Seems like those ears of her cought some of the whispers.

I hesitated, caught off guard by her bluntness. "They're... curious." I tried to downplay it, like usual.

"Curious?" she repeated, tilting her head. Her skepticism was obvious.

"Yeah," I said with a grin, scratching the back of my neck. "I'm kind of a novelty."

Luna's eyes narrowed slightly. "You pretend a lot."

I opened my mouth to deny it but stopped myself. She wasn't wrong.

"It's easier that way," I admitted.

Silence took over our conversation for a few seconds as we both ate our meals, not exactly eager to break the silence.

"I like you," Luna said, her voice unexpectedly soft.

I blinked, thrown by the suddenness of it. "You do?"

She nodded, completely earnest. "You're nice."

My stomach did a weird little flip. I wasn't sure if she meant it as a compliment, but it felt nice anyway.

"Well," I said after a moment, "I like you too."

It sounded lame even to my ears, but Luna seemed pleased. The tension around us eased a bit, and I realized I was actually smiling.

"Are you always alone?" she asked, bringing the conversation back to me.

I shrugged again, feeling less self-conscious now. "Nah, I normally eat with my sister"

"Where is she?"

Good question. Where the hell is that blue fox?

As if on cue, my phone vibrated in my pocket. I pulled it out and saw a message from Iris.

"Urgent meeting with the light goddess," it read. "Sorry for not spending lunch with you 🥺"

I typed back quickly: "It's alright, see you at home."

"I turned the phone off and slid it away

"She had something come up," I explained to Luna, who was watching me curiously.

Luna nodded, accepting the explanation without further comment.

The bell rang, echoing through the cafeteria like an alarm, and we both stood to head back to class. The afternoon passed in a blur, the earlier tension fading as students settled back into their routines. By the time the final bell chimed, I almost felt normal again.

I slipped my books into my bag and was about to make my usual quick exit, but before I could, someone's hand took my shirt and stopped me from moving on.

I turned around to find Luna, her delicate hand gently grabbing my shirt. She looked me in the eye, her head tilted slightly with an unreadable expression.

"What's up?" I asked, but she seemed reluctant to speak.

I wondered what she needed, but as I watched her tail twitch, I started to understand. "Do you want to go back to the magic training camp?"

She nodded quickly, her ears moving as she did and the pace of her tail quickening.

So cute.

Living with a foxgirl had its perks, one of which was learning to read them by the movements of their animal traits rather than their expressions. Iris had become difficult to read lately; she controlled her ears and tail almost perfectly. But Luna was the complete opposite. Her face and voice struggled to show emotion, but her body? It was loud and clear.

"Okay," I said, amused by how animated she seemed. "I'll take you there."

She released my shirt, looking satisfied and maybe a little relieved. As we walked through the hallways together, I felt people glancing at us, but it wasn't as unbearable as before. Luna didn't seem to notice—or care—as we left the main building and stepped into the crisp afternoon air.

We walked in comfortable silence all the way there. Luna isn't as bad as I thought. I don't know why her aura is so suffocating, but she's super cute. She may seem kind of mean and cold, but I think she just struggles with interactions a lot. We got to the same place as before.

"What should I do?" she asked expectantly.

"Now you'll have to throw that fireball," I said.

She nodded, then a small flame appeared in her hand. It grew into a glowing orb as she pointed it toward the training field. "What now?" she asked, her voice steady but curious.

"Close your eyes again," I suggested. "Pinpoint that warmth inside your lower abdomen, and do the same thing you did before. Now picture the warmth getting to the very top of your fingers."

She followed my instructions, her golden eyes closing as she focused. After a moment of silence, the ball in her hand shot out with massive power. It exploded a couple hundred meters away, sending a shockwave through the whole place, almost knocking me off my feet.

Holy shit. This is her first time? That's amazing.

Luna opened her eyes, looking at me with a mix of surprise and satisfaction. Her tail flicked with excitement.

"That was huge!" I exclaimed, trying to keep my balance.

Her ears perked up at my reaction. "Yes," she agreed, as if surprised herself.

"You sure you've never done this before?"

She shook her head, seemingly pleased with what she'd accomplished. Her expression was still cool, but her body language screamed happy.

"Thanks," she said, and it was so sincere I almost didn't register that she actually said it.

"Hey, we're not done, you fox!" I called as she started to walk away.

Luna stopped and looked back at me, confused. Her head tilted, and her tail slowed to a gentle sway.

"What more can I learn?" she asked, genuine bewilderment in her voice.

"Oh, you don't even know," I said with a grin. "This is just the beginning. It's about to get a whole lot more complicated."

"Teach me," she demanded, but her enthusiasm made it hard to take her seriously when her tail went right back into excited motion.

"Alright," I laughed, "let's see what else you can do."

She returned to my side, ready for more instructions. I rubbed my chin thoughtfully, trying to remember what Iris had said about magic training. Focused drills? Meditation techniques? There was so much it was hard to recall all at once.

"Okay, let's try something different," I suggested.

"Have you ever messed around with different kinds of magic?"

She considered the question, her ears twitching. "Only fire."

"Let's change that," I said. "Try to make a wind blast or something."

"And how can I do that?"

Well, at the end of the day, mana is just energy on its purest state. That means, as long as it exists, a magician should be able to do it with enough power and practice.

"For wind, you have to stop thinking about explosive power as you pass your mana through your fingers. Think about something that is calm, whatever you want."

She looked at me slightly confused but nodded and tried what I told her. She held out her hand, concentrating intently. Her brow furrowed at first, but then her expression softened as she let go of the need for force.

For a moment, nothing happened. Then a gentle gust rippled from her palm, stirring the air around us in a swirling dance.

Wow. It took iris hours to get it.

I watched in awe. "You did it!" I said, grinning like an idiot.

Luna blinked at her hand as if she couldn't believe it either. Her tail wagged happily behind her.

"Wow," I said, "you're a fast learner." My hand landed on the side of her head, lightly brushing her ear. Luna jumped back. Her tail fluffed up like a spiked ball.

"Shit, I'm sorry," I said quickly, watching her ears shoot up, alert to something unseen. She stood there for a moment, stiff and tense. Then she relaxed, her ears drooping as her eyes found mine with their usual coolness.

Her ears moved again, pointing toward me like little radar dishes. What was she doing? My mind raced as I tried to figure out what she wanted now.

"Did that freak you out?" I asked, scratching my head awkwardly.

"I don't understand," she said, tilting her head slightly.

Huh? What does that even mean? God, this fox is so bad at communicating.

"You're okay?" I asked.

She nodded, her eyes still piercing mine with that same completely unreadable look. Her ears were still pointing forward, and after a few seconds I finally seemed to realize what it meant.

"You want more?"

She didn't respond or nod, but her answer came by the way her tail began moving rapidly from side to side.

I laughed, relieved and amused. "Alright, alright,— you're one strange little fox."

I reached up and brushed the side of her head again. Luna flinched at first, but when my fingers started scratching lightly behind her ears, she froze completely. It was like she forgot how to move. Then, without warning, her whole body seemed to melt. Her shoulders relaxed; her eyes closed halfway as if she were in a trance. She took a wobbly step toward me, and for a second I thought she might fall over.

"Oh wow," I said, grinning at how quickly she turned to putty.

Her tail slowed to a lazy wag, each sweep less coordinated than the last. Her ears twitched under my fingers as I continued to scratch them gently. The more I scratched, the more she leaned into it until her forehead was practically resting against my chest.

I laughed softly, unable to help myself. "Seems like no matter the fox, you all love this."

I kept scratching behind her ears, and she inched closer until her chest pressed firmly against my torso. Her moans were soft and breathy, slipping out every time I hit the right spot.

"Ahem" a certain voice shook us right away from our little moment, a voice I knew all to well.
