Abyss Sequence-Chapter 425 - 82: Thus, the Evil Ones
Because of extreme surprise, Sasa was at a loss for words.
"But, isn't this a good thing?"
Fuer spoke righteously, "I am a Saint, the leader of all elves in Alfheim. I haven't used any coercive means, I've only advocated that all elves strive for goodness. Now you see, our lives are exceptionally harmonious. A sense of morality makes us ashamed to do bad things, and I also allow them to freely develop their own interests. Every elf is free, though it might sound unpleasant, the actual effect is very good."
Upon hearing this, Sasa realized that she had been mistaken earlier.
The actions of a strong leader always have considerable impact. Fuer holds the power over Alfheim, and the entire world acts according to his ideas. It seems nefarious, but in fact, he hasn't done anything wrong; instead, he has led the elves toward positive development...
"Except for not allowing elves to freely explore the outside world!" Yan Luo said in a deep voice.
Fuer nodded honestly and said, "That's right, we did indeed prevent the elves from exploring externally, not because we fear the outside might harm Alfheim, but to shape the social ethos of the elves, guiding them towards positivity and optimism. However, in this world, there is no perfect thing or perfect person, even though we are Saints, we cannot fulfill all the desires of the elves.
"Unless we could create things out of thin air, whatever we do will infringe on the desires of others. In restricting the exploration of elves, we have indeed made a mistake, but it's a necessary compromise."
Some elves wish to explore the outside, yet they hardly realize, both Saints have their own desires as well.
When the desires of the weak conflict with the strong, it is often the desires of the strong that overshadow those of the weak.
"I have another question."
Sasa took a light breath and asked, "Lord Fuer, do you know that the Secret Realm itself is an Evil God?"
Fuer nodded again, "I know."
Yan Luo frowned and questioned, "Since you know the Secret Realm is an Evil God, why allow some elves to become the Master of the Secret Realm?"
"Because we need to suppress the Secret Realm."
Fuer shook his head with a light smile and said, "It has been a long time since Alfheim made contact with the Secret Realm, fully nine thousand years. The Secret Realm is a trial ground, and since it's a trial ground, there must be a day to clear it. Either be destroyed by the trial ground or clear the trial; there are no other choices for a civilization faced with the Secret Realm.
"However, we need to shape the social ethos of the elves, so we can't allow too much interaction between the elf cities. Intertwined ideas can spark fierce ideologies and alter the memetic life forms born from our civilization's ethos. We don't want this to happen. Therefore, we harness the power of the Secret Realm to divide each city with wilderness, making it difficult for them to communicate and interact."
Sasa's pupils narrowed, and she urgently said, "Even if this leads to stagnation in societal development?"
"The Evil God is our ultimate enemy!"
Fuer's smile faded, revealing a complex expression, "We elves depend on magic power for survival; our lifespan, culture, and technology all rely on magic power. Yet, a civilization capable of accessing magic power will inevitably birth an Evil God during its development. Elves cannot seal away magic power like humans can. Thus, we either stagnate as a race or find a way to eliminate the Evil God we give birth to.
"But the former, it only postpones the birth of the Evil God; the Evil God will still be born. Therefore, we must figure out a way to completely eliminate this hidden danger. Your ancestors chose to sever ties with the Secret Realm and seal away magic power, giving you over eight thousand years of peaceful development. We chose to reform the ethos of the race, nurturing a positive memetic life form. Everything we do is for our race and civilization."
Sasa pondered carefully and found the situation indeed just as Fuer described.
It is impossible for elves to forego magic power; unlike humans, they heavily rely on it. Even without magic power, humans could live well.
But that was before the Abyss descended. After the Abyss's arrival, even humans couldn't live without magic power.
The birth of an Evil God is irregular; no one knows when it will happen. The only certainty is that the more entwined a civilization is with magic power, the sooner an Evil God will be born.
"In the universe—"
Fuer suddenly began to narrate, "Not all civilizations can enhance individual strength as quickly as humans and elves. Many races can't increase their personal strength throughout their lives. Our roles in the universe are similar, unique, with many physical resemblances, so humans and elves became allies.
"When the human Saint discovered that any civilization intertwined with magic power would inevitably birth an Evil God, they immediately informed us elves and explained mankind's intention. I was still young then, and didn't realize that departure with my father would be our final farewell...
"At that time, humans were already powerful, ranking among the strongest in the Milky Way. Despite having contact with magic power for less than a few hundred years, they had become too powerful, needing to make a quick decision. Otherwise, if an Evil God emerged from their civilization, its power would be unparalleled, able to sweep through the entire Milky Way.
"The more strong individuals a civilization has, the faster an Evil God is born. A single strong individual can incite thoughts thousands, even millions of times greater than ordinary people. They've had too much magic power talent, and thus they had to choose: fight the Evil God or delay its birth. They chose the latter."
Upon hearing this, Yan Luo felt a sudden shock.
The Evil God belonging to the Blue Star People hasn't been born, it's merely been suppressed by their ancestors, meaning an Evil God will eventually appear anyway.
Realizing this, Yan Luo felt an inexplicable heaviness in his heart. 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝙬𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝒎
Fuer continued, "Later, as I grew, I realized human actions couldn't be considered wrong, but it didn't solve the Evil God issue entirely. Unless their descendants never touch magic power, the Evil God will eventually be born. However, avoiding magic power... is impossible. Magic power is a fundamental force of the universe; as long as a civilization advances, they will inevitably encounter magic power, just as you have.
"I am a crossbreed between a Saint and an elf, growing much faster than ordinary elves. I became a Saint at a very young age, so I guided some elves to become Masters of the Secret Realm, directed societal development, and repeatedly modified elves' traditional culture, all to change the ethos of this world and make the memetic life form born from our civilization into a positive state."
The strength, determination, and perseverance Fuer possessed enabled him to succeed.
Yevgenia looked at Fuer with a complex gaze.
She wanted to angrily rebuke the Saint for altering the entire elf civilization for an unknown possibility, yet in her perspective, the current elf civilization was not bad at all; it was quite excellent.
Thus, what reason did she have to reproach Fuer, the Saint?
A flame of anger smoldered in Yevgenia's heart, yet she couldn't vent it, leaving her feeling quite aggrieved.
Sasa still had many doubts, so she asked them all in one go, "Then why do you allow us to come to Alfheim? Why permit trade with the elves? Why allow elves to study at Blue Star?"
Fuer looked at Sasa with gentle eyes, speaking softly, "They are hope, and the future, a backup for the elf civilization."
Sasa's heart skipped a beat as an ominous feeling struck her, urgently asking, "Why do you say that?"
Fuer lifted his head and gazed into the distance.
The high winds whipped over the mountain peak, unable to shake the snow atop it.
Then they heard Fuer say softly, "Because the Evil God belonging to Alfheim is about to be born. If our plan fails, perhaps all of Alfheim will be destroyed, so we must have contingency plans. Your arrival and the timing of the study exchange program could not be more perfect."
Terror suddenly filled Sasa's heart.
