Abyss Summoner-Chapter 327 - 320: Ominous Signs
In the morning, it’s still hazy, with dense clouds rolling across the sky. Though it hasn’t snowed, the weather is ominously dreary.
This weather has persisted for about half a month.
A great fog arises between heaven and earth, covering everything, making the land appear as a vast, white expanse.
The mountain’s dead trees are covered in dewdrops, and the drifting fog blurs everything, much like looking through a veil; viewing objects within even ten meters is quite difficult.
It seems as if the world is steeped in mist, flickering and unclear.
"The fog is so thick!"
Chen Feng sits in the courtyard, with some pastries and morning tea beside him, appearing relaxed as if one could not see he’s amidst an apocalypse.
He sleeps early and rises early.
Though occasionally discussing techniques with Flora, he always wakes early the next morning to embrace the new day.
Chen Feng does not advocate laziness, which could affect the most precious time of the day.
Nearby, the Inferior Demon isn’t in high spirits. The little girl’s favorite pastime was sunning herself, but recently, due to the fog, the sun has been elusive, impacting her mood.
Lying on the ground.
This Demon leader who holds some power in the Abyss has, at this time, become another figure, lazy and carefree. She increasingly enjoys contemplating; if killing for her master is one passion, then idling occupies much of her time too.
The Inferior Demon tilts her head, watching ahead, her tail occasionally hitting the ground, making a thumping sound.
The little girl holds an extreme attitude toward life.
Manic chaos in frenzy, and calm in tranquility.
And beside her sits a humanoid ghoul, with the body of a boy but the soul of a malevolent ghost, tears in their eyes, continuously stuffing vegetables like carrots or cucumbers into their mouth.
The Inferior Demon is punishing it.
Unlike an immortal body that never dies no matter how tormented, Inferior Demon has grown tired of this style of play. This time, aware the other is a carnivore, she forcefully converts it to vegetarianism.
Three days.
The ghoul has eaten vegetables for three days; now utterly feeble, its physical condition drops quickly without consuming meat.
If this continues, it might soon die.
Yet, Chen Feng doesn’t restrain the other.
The ghoul is merely a plaything for the Inferior Demon. Throughout growth, every little girl discards numerous toys, like some plush toys cherished at a certain age, but over time are abandoned without notice.
The ghoul is the same.
It’s just a gift Chen Feng gave to the Inferior Demon, however she chooses to treat it is her matter, and Chen Feng won’t intervene.
The ghoul is nearing death.
Yet it still doesn’t dare resist. It now tries its hardest to entertain the Inferior Demon. It desperately wants meat, even a bite could restore some Primordial Energy.
Footsteps sound.
Wei Xun approaches, and because of the mood, the Inferior Demon doesn’t look up, which brings him some relief.
However, while the Inferior Demon’s interest wanes, the ghoul smells human meat, turning its head, its eyes glowing blood-red like a rabid dog ready to leap and bite through Wei Xun’s neck, devouring the flesh within.
Wei Xun isn’t afraid.
Facing the Inferior Demon is solely because of her status as the master’s favorite Summoned Beast; most already treat her like a young mistress.
But what is this ghoul before him?
Merely a zombie of strong lineage, Wei Xun is one step from the peak and won’t fear any threats from it.
"Master, the surroundings of the Economic Development Zone have all been explored, resources and survivors have entered Order."
"Bridge East delivered 12 Magic Crystal Cannons yesterday, and I’ve arranged them on the city walls."
"Besides that, the fortifications in the camp and the surrounding watchtowers have been completed. The projects still underway include the trenches around the camp and the roads connecting to the east of the bridge."
Pausing for a moment, Wei Xun began reporting the situation.
"Hmm, the road connecting to the east of the bridge is still uneven. Once completed, I want to be able to run to the east of the bridge within two hours!" Chen Feng offered some advice.
"Yes." There was no doubt for Wei Xun; he just needed to follow the other’s instructions, concerned neither with right nor wrong.
After finishing the work description, Chen Feng looked up at the sky and said, "Wei Xun, do you know... what is the most suitable weather for bugs?"
Wei Xun stood quietly to the side, listening carefully to the other’s words, shaking his head: ’Master, I haven’t paid attention to that.’
"One of the bugs’ favorite weather conditions is this heavy fog with high humidity; under such circumstances, they become particularly excited. Some bugs who can’t hold back might even come out for slaughter and feeding."
"No way? The surrounding bugs have been killed or locked up, forming no scale at all. Now there are very few bugs outside, just two or three, posing no threat at all."
At this point, Wei Xun’s face showed some pride.
As the head of the Combat Department, Wei Xun was primarily responsible for clearing them. After a period of eradication, the ferocious bugs were no longer as brave as before; on the contrary, they had become meat, caged and raised by humans, with no room for resistance at all.
"Alright, your contributions are noted, but this must be approached cautiously. When going out, ensure precautions are in place while road construction is ongoing. If an attack occurs, the danger must be minimized."
"Before the storm comes, everything is extremely calm; do not be deceived by this illusion. The more so, the more we must prioritize handling things with one hundred percent seriousness!"
Wei Xun nodded, just about to respond when a slight tremor emanated from the ground. Like someone beating a drum, within seconds, the vibration intensified, resembling thousands of galloping horses, disrupting everyone’s spirits.
Is it an earthquake?
Earthquakes are not uncommon due to energy altering the surrounding environment. Over half a year, the city experienced more than twenty quakes, with varying intensity.
However, this earthquake came without any warning — booming suddenly; although the ground didn’t shake violently yet, chaotic noises and quick footsteps were heard outside, showing the survivors were frightened.
The earthquake induced some changes.
Nearby, from the house designated for the Bloodthirsty Bees, a dark cloud suddenly emerged. After being raised for a while, the number had already exceeded a thousand. But now, the normally docile Bloodthirsty Bees seemed scared, swarming out, causing panic among people; some timid ones even cried.
Furthermore, monsters imprisoned in the zoo were in an irritable state, continuously pounding on cages, sounds filled with urgency and restlessness, trying to escape the iron bars’ constraint.
Witnessing the madness of these creatures, people became more anxious and frenzied, as if their hearts were sharply clawed by a cat, unable to remain calm. Despite all Exploration Department members being deployed to appease nearby survivors, panic spread: some areas were cramped.
"What’s happening?"
"Why did this earthquake come so suddenly?"
Facing the impending quake, even Chen Feng turned pale, his heart racing fiercely. While confident against enemies, he acknowledged powerlessness against natural forces.
Nature’s power.
Tsunamis, volcanic eruptions, earthquakes — these are forces no human can resist. Unless Chen Feng reaches the legendary realm, even Golden Tier must comply with fate.
Even the Inferior Demon beside him sat up cautiously watching around, looking doomed. 𝒻𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝘯𝘰𝑣ℯ𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝘮
Chen Feng’s heart tightened.
He must act to respond.
Chen Feng took a deep breath, about to inspect the city’s situation when the ground’s vibration doubled. Under this tremor, walls began shaking; the intensity already exceeded six-level.
Many erected tents trembled, some even breaking their frames — collapsing instantly, while underground bunkers shook more violently; countless dust scattered, causing some workers to run outside madly, fearing burial by collapsing structures.
The suddenly enhanced tremor made children unstable, falling on the ground. At this time, people ran everywhere; children soon lost sight of their relatives, crying incessantly. In disasters, everyone’s most vulnerable side was exposed thoroughly now.
Chen Feng stood at the threshold, watching the chaotic scene, face dark as he shouted at Wei Xun beside him: ’Organize the subordinates, quickly evacuate the crowd; large-scale stampedes must not occur!’
Critical moment — Wei Xun also had a pale face, listening to orders, nodded firmly, then rushed to implement precautions.
[Order] is not the cause of vibrations because Chen Feng sensed stronger fluctuations from afar.
"What is happening with all this?"
Chen Feng maintained a grim expression, gazing into the distance anxiously — it’s an ominous omen...
