Accidentally Yours, Mr. Stranger-Chapter 98 - 9. Knock out - Part 2
Chapter 98: 9. Knock out - Part 2
"Let’s welcome our new Chief Operations Officer, Mr. Simon Brown."
The moment the words left Sienna’s lips, everybody’s minds exploded, and they collectively stared at Simon as if he were a monster.
Chief Operations Officer? Simon? When did this happen?
They were gobsmacked and didn’t speak for a long time. The man who had been an assistant was now the COO. Although he previously held a high position, he was now even higher and more powerful.
What kind of thrilling plot was this? It was beyond everyone’s expectations.
It wasn’t until Kyrell coughed twice that they snapped out of their trance and started clapping, congratulating Simon, and wishing him luck.
Simon accepted all their congratulations graciously.
Once the meeting room went silent again, Sienna continued, "Mr. Brown has been with us for a long time, and I don’t think there’s anyone more suited and better than him to be the Chief Operations Officer. With his involvement and skills, I am sure the Lawrence Group will reach new heights."
It was only after listening to her, the people in the meeting room recalled what a brilliant employee Simon was. They had completely forgotten that he had been working for the Lawrence Group for a long time, even before many of them joined.
By now, Simon was well-versed in the company management. They had completely overlooked his abilities, which seemed to have been suppressed when he had been a mere assistant.
This change came as a shock to many, and it took them a lot of time to react.
Now, only one position remained. The position of the CFO, the most important position after the CEO’s.
At that moment, Herbert’s face was as dark as ink, and he stared at Sienna with his eyes narrowed.
While the others didn’t realize what was happening, Sienna did. She knew that the man was furious and indignant. And why wouldn’t he be when his dreams had been brutally shattered?
Kyrell moved closer to Sienna and squinted his eyes when he saw the look Herbert was giving her.
Herbert felt a chill run down his spine when he sensed a lethal gaze on him. It was murderous and filled with warning, and he immediately chickened out when he noticed the man behind Sienna.
The man didn’t seem like a normal bodyguard. He looked so strong and capable that Herbert had no doubt he’d end up with broken bones if he ever provoked him.
At that moment, Sienna’s phone vibrated, and she read the message.
Brendon: I’m outside the meeting room. Shall I enter?
"Now, let’s welcome our new Chief Financial Officer, Mr. Brendon Curtis."
As soon as she mentioned his name, the door to the meeting room opened, and Brendon entered, dressed in a crisp black suit. He looked all dapper and smart, more than he already was.
The meeting room was completely silent as they stared at Brendon in horror. If they had been blown away after hearing that Simon was the new COO, they were utterly bewildered to find that Brendon Curtis was the CFO. What kind of a god level move was this?
Herbert almost sprang to his feet when he saw Brendon. He had never expected the man he revered to be the new CFO. How did this miracle happen?
"Hello, Miss Lawrence. Hello, everyone," Brendon greeted everyone and took his chair, the seat meant for the CFO of the Lawrence Group.
"It looks like my appearance has brought shock to everyone," Brendon chuckled and nodded at Simon, who looked at him in astonishment.
Esme took the last empty seat, and everybody realized what kind of game Sienna had played.
While some were joyous, there were a few who were yet to come out of their shock.
Herbert Stanley continued to gawk at Brendon Curtis as if staring at him for a few seconds more would make him disappear from his sight.
Brendon Curtis? The man who had a Midas’ touch? Any project he invested in was a success. How did he agree to be the Lawrence Group CFO? How did Sienna achieve this feat?
"Mr. Curtis, they are happy to see you," Sienna said, giving him a cryptic look.
"I see." Brendon didn’t say anything and leaned back on his chair, watching Sienna reign over the meeting room.
"Now that everyone is here, let’s start with the meeting."
While Brendon’s ears were trained on what the people around him were saying, his eyes were fixed on his phone as he saw the news.
Only a few minutes after his arrival, the news about him being the new CFO of the Lawrence Group had been released. His eyes moved to Esme, who was typing continuously on her laptop.
Switching to another app, he checked the Lawrence Group stock price and saw that it was rising, almost drastically, and he suppressed a smile.
’You’re a lot more strategic than I thought. It’ll be interesting working with you,’ he thought, liking the official post of his joining as the CFO on Twitter. It was his silent agreement.
The news spread immediately, and everyone who had been eying the Lawrence Group was stunned by the brilliant move.
Brendon Curtis joining the Lawrence Group was like Hercules joining a fight. Now, who would dare to attack the Lawrence Group? The man alone could single-handedly destroy everyone who attempted to bring the Lawrence Group down.
Some of the companies that had been waiting for the Lawrence Group to stumble felt their bodies bleed. They knew they had no chance of winning now. So, they gave up attacking.
The news soon reached Rupert and his family, and he swept the things on the table in shock.
"When did this happen? Why did no one inform me about this?" he seethed, his eyes blazing with fury.
"Sir, the news was announced just now. Nobody knew about it," his assistant informed. He was utterly impressed by Sienna’s smart moves. But he didn’t show it on his face, for he loved his life.
The Nelson family loathed Sienna. If he were to show his appreciation to Sienna before them, they’d destroy him immediately.
"Call him. Call that person. I want to talk to him. Why did he not inform me about such an important matter?"
"Yes, Sir."
The assistant placed the call and waited.
"Hello? Sir wants to speak to you."
"Hello...." Rupert was seething. So, he practically roared into the phone. "Why did you not inform me about Brendon Curtis?"
"Sir, nobody in the company knew about it, not even the top-level employees. We only found out after the news was released officially," the man replied, and Rupert went silent.
"What’s the status now?" he asked after some time.
"The meeting is still in session. I don’t know what exactly they are discussing."
Rupert took deep breaths to calm himself down. "Keep me updated. Don’t you dare lie to me."
"Yes, Sir."
Rupert collapsed on the chair and looked at the ceiling absent-mindedly. With Brendon joining the Lawrence Group, many shareholders would now favor Sienna, even the ones who had promised to help him previously.
Sienna had defeated him brutally.
Rupert clenched his phone tightly before relaxing his palm. ’I can’t accept defeat so easily. I can’t. I won’t. Sienna... you just wait.’
