Adventurer's Guild Café: I Was Wrongfully Exiled by the Saint, So I Will Enjoy My Second Life with My Fluffy Friends-Chapter 2V .1 .1 - The News That Arrived
“It sounds like the hall is getting noisy.”
It was a quiet afternoon with few people around.
Since I had nothing else to do, I was in the kitchen learning how to make spinach and bacon quiche from Dan when he suddenly said that.
Following his gaze, I looked toward the hall and saw that, indeed, a large number of adventurers had gathered.
“You’re right. I wonder what’s going on?”
As I tilted my head in curiosity, Kiril emerged from the crowd and entered the café.
As usual, he slumped into a chair with a lazy air and let out a sigh.
“Hey, Kiril, the hall seems pretty noisy. What’s happening?”
Ruri, who had been tending to the plants, asked Kiril.
After ordering a coffee from me, Kiril answered in a tone that suggested he found the whole thing troublesome.
“A mythical beast showed up in our dungeon.”
“! A mythic beast!”
Ruri’s eyes widened in surprise.
Mythic beasts, like Lulu, were rare creatures sometimes referred to as divine beasts. In this country, harming rare creatures that do not pose a threat to humans is strictly forbidden. In particular, injuring any being with intelligence comparable to or greater than humans is considered a crime.
“What kind of mythic beast is it?”
When I asked, Kiril tilted his head.
“Well, I haven’t heard much about it, so I don’t really know. But apparently, it’s injured and in a weakened state.”
I placed a freshly brewed coffee in front of Kiril. After thanking me, he waved his hand dismissively.
“Well, it’s got nothing to do with me, anyway—”
“Ah, there you are!”
Just as Kiril was about to finish speaking, two people entered the café.
One of them was Simon. As always, he wore a friendly smile.
The other was a man dressed in a sharply tailored black uniform.
He was the leader of the “Staff Knights,” the group responsible for protecting this city with magic. His name was Gier.
Removing his military cap, which bore the emblem of two crossed staffs, he looked at me and smiled slightly.
Gier’s blue-green eyes always seemed to draw me in.
“Hello.”
“H-Hello.”
I hurriedly returned the greeting.
At first, I thought he was a scary person, but after he helped me during the recent human trafficking incident, I realized he was actually very kind and reliable.
As I tilted my head, wondering why he had come, the two approached Kiril’s table. Kiril looked displeased.
“I’ve got a bad feeling about this...”
“We’re not here to bring bad news. We just want you to go investigate the dungeon.”
“See? That is bad news!”
Kiril waved his hand dismissively.
“I’m busy, so no. Not going.”
“Come on, don’t say that.”
“If something happens to this city, it’ll be a problem for the Staff Knights as well.”
Ah, I see. So that’s why Gier came to the guild.
The Staff Knights maintain order outside the dungeon, while adventurers keep order inside. They work together to protect Finaldatt.
The three of them discussed the situation at the table for a while.
I was curious about what they were talking about, but I knew I shouldn’t eavesdrop too much.

Just as I was feeling restless, the oven timer rang.
When Dan opened the oven door, a warm, delicious aroma filled the air.
“Wow, that smells amazing...!”
“Kuna, for your first time, this is really well done.”
“Really?”
“Yeah.”
I was so happy to be praised by Dan that my tail swayed fluffily.
Drawn in by the delicious aroma, the fluffy ones, who had been napping, quickly came running over.
“Kyuruu!”
“Pii!”
It was a bit cruel to the four of them, who looked so excited... but it couldn’t be helped.
“No, you guys can’t have any.”
The fluffy ones gave me a look as if to say, What?!
“You already had lunch, didn’t you?”
Their faces seemed to say, Yes, but what does that have to do with anything...?
“If you eat any more, it’ll be bad for your health. Let’s hold back for a little while, okay?”
As soon as I said that, their eyes welled up with tears.
“Ruu...?”
“Pii...”
Ugh. That’s a little heartbreaking... But Pipi and the others are already so stuffed they look like they’re about to burst.
I had to steel my heart and put the quiche away.
Apologizing to them, Dan and I stored the quiche in the pantry.
Meanwhile, it seemed like Kiril and the others had reached a conclusion in their discussion.
“Why the hell do I have to go?! I already made plans with a girl!”
...Or maybe they hadn’t reached a conclusion.
“If necessary, we can dispatch certified members from the Staff Knights as well.”
“Pfft, no way. If I had to drag along a bunch of magic-obsessed, uptight nerds like you guys, I’d rather go alone!”
Kiril turned away with a huff. W-what a way to put it...
“Right now, Gant and the others are out, so there’s no one else we can rely on but you. If a phantom beast dies in a dungeon under our jurisdiction, I’ll get endlessly nagged at by the central authorities.”
“Wouldn’t that be so sad?” Simon said, eyes glistening with fake tears.
“Sad? Not in the slightest! You always work me to the bone, you eternally-young-looking, two-faced mage!”
“Oh, so you’ll do it? Thank you~!”
With a bright smile, Simon swiftly signed and stamped the paperwork before shoving it into Kiril’s hands.
“...Hah!?”
...I’m not entirely sure what just happened, but it seemed like the matter was settled.
“It can’t be helped. Instead of complaining, why don’t you just hurry up and get ready?”
While trying to soothe Kiril, who hadn’t stopped grumbling, Ruri cut up the quiche and packed it into a portable storage box. This storage box was an incredible invention that kept its contents from spoiling, making it a favorite among adventurers.
I also packed the honey lemon I made into a similar preservation jar.
Ruri took it and placed it thud on Kiril’s table.
“Here, this is your lunch! It’s the one Kuu-chan was practicing earlier. It won’t spoil, so it’ll be fine for a while.”
“...Thanks.”
Kiril still looked sulky, but perhaps realizing there was no use resisting anymore, he stuffed the items Ruri had prepared into his magic bag and stood up.
“Be careful out there.”
“Yeah, yeah. Make me something again when I get back.”
“Of course!”
Waving a hand lazily, Kiril walked off.
...Will he really be okay?
