The creaking sound of the old warehouse door echoed as it slowly opened.

We held our breath, watching the scene unfold.

Little by little, light crept into the dim interior of the warehouse.

“...?”

Kiril furrowed his brow.

“What the...?”

“Gruuu...”

The fur on Lulu’s tail stood on end.

Something unpleasant was inside.

Lulu let out a low growl.

“What the hell is this?!”

Kiril, who had stepped inside, shouted in shock.

We couldn’t help but peek in as well.

Huh...?

The first thing that caught my eye was something that looked like a thick tree branch.

It moved slightly, as if the dry wood were wriggling in the sunlight.

But as I raised my gaze, I noticed fluffy yellow fur.

Looking further up, I saw a massive beak and piercing, gleaming eyes...

“Eeeeeek!”

Beside me, Ellen fell to the ground in fear.

Solaris clung to me, startled.

“You’ve got to be kidding me—what is this thing...?”

Standing right in front of Kiril was something enormous, about the size of a small building.

It looked like... a giant chick?

Even as Kiril stood there stunned, he suddenly flicked his fingers.

In that instant, a golden light gently spread throughout the space.

What did he just do...?

“What… What is this thing!?”

“Wait a moment, please. Let’s see… bird type, bird type... ah, here it is.”

Krona, the only one who wasn’t flustered, pulled out a massive encyclopedia from who-knows-where and flipped through its pages.

“Encyclopedia Entry No. 101... It’s probably a Mokomot, nyah.”

“Eh?! Mokomot!? That harmless dungeon spirit?! There’s no way this monstrosity is one of those!”

Ellen screamed, clinging to Krona.

“Well, something does seem off, but... it’s probably correct, nyah.”

Krona holds the encyclopedia out for us to see and casually said, “This is it, nyah.”

(How can she stay so calm…?)

I glanced at the page sideways.

It’s true, the shape is exactly the same.

But something feels wrong—while the one in the encyclopedia is smaller and cute...

The massive fluffball in front of us had sharp, glaring eyes that screamed monster.

“Gruuu!”

“Lulu...”

Lulu growled again.

It was supposed to be harmless, but... this doesn’t feel like something good at all.

“Hey! It’s a spirit or whatever, but I can cut it down, right!?”

“Well, if it curses someone later, that’ll be on you, Kiril. I think it’s fine, nyah.”

“Eh?! That’s not fine!”

Just as Kiril shouted that, the previously still Mokomot suddenly let out a screech and started thrashing about.

“Whoa, close one!”

Kiril narrowly dodged being stomped.

“Tch, no choice. I’ll weaken it and catch it alive!”

With that, he drew his sword.

“Ma-Marmo…!”

“!?”

But as Kiril prepared to act, Solaris, standing beside me, suddenly gripped my waist tightly.

Her face was on the verge of tears.

“Marmo, I’m sorry...”

“...?”

And then, tears began to spill from Solaris’s eyes, dripping down her cheeks.

I shifted my gaze back to the enormous Mokomot.

And then, I saw it—something dark and shadowy around the creature’s rear.

It looked as though a black stake of some kind was lodged in it.

What is that...?

Kiril was already in full combat mode. He was waiting for an opening to launch his attack.

But the warehouse was cramped.

If he wasn’t careful, the building would collapse, or worse, the massive Mokomot could escape toward the town.

“Ah...”

I thought about it up to that point and suddenly realized.

The golden light Kiril had cast earlier was probably some sort of magic to keep the Mokomot from escaping outside.

“Marmo…”

Solaris’s tearful voice.

The Mokomot was making a painful sound.

That black stake was causing it pain.

I instinctively understood that.

“Wait.”

Before I knew it, those words had escaped my lips.

“Wait!”

I didn’t quite understand why I said that, but before I knew it, my body was already moving on its own.

“!?”

I heard someone gasp in surprise.

As I heard that, I charged into the warehouse.

“Kuna!!”

Kiril’s shocked voice reached my ears.

Various things fell around me, but I quickly dodged and kept running.

As I ran, I absentmindedly thought to myself:

──Huh? When was the last time I ran this seriously?

For a long time, due to the tight corset and small heeled shoes, I couldn’t even breathe properly, let alone run.

But when I was little, I feel like I used to run across wide fields a lot.

Suddenly, I felt my mother’s voice echoing in my mind.

──The White Wolf Clan, more than anyone else, can run across this land faster than anything.

Now that I think about it, she used to say something like that.

The Mokomot, perhaps in pain, was thrashing around.

Since the warehouse wasn’t that big, every time it struggled, dust flew up, and various things fell down.

But strangely, everything seemed to move in slow motion to me.

I could avoid all of it.

I could hear someone screaming in fear.

But I wasn’t scared at all.

In fact, I found it fun to move around.

I dodged falling debris, kicked off the wall, and moved behind the Mokomot.

“This is it.”

Then I reached out and grabbed the black stake that had been driven into the Mokomot’s body.

The moment I touched it, something sticky seemed to cling to my hand.

A shiver ran down my spine as my tail bristled.

But that feeling disappeared in an instant.

A burst of light exploded from my hand.
